Atlas Cables, the engineering-led British audio cable manufacture, announces the launch of its Hyper 3.5 speaker cable. Engineered using similar principles learnt during the development the high-end Mavros and recently launched Ascent cables, Hyper 3.5 gives a significant upgrade to users who wish to retain the overall character of their system yet improve the clarity, openness and accuracy normally associated with a component change.
Developed by Atlas in consultation with some of the UK’s leading audio brands, Hyper 3.5 employs 72 x 0.25mm high-purity OFC conductor stands encapsulated within a carefully selected high efficiency PTFE (Teflon) dielectric coating. The resultant conductor is embedded within an anti-vibration filler and finished in the same gloss black sleeve in keeping with the Hyper family design.
The resultant cable is ideally suited to owners of systems who wish to retain the signature sound yet aspire to unveil more detail, dynamics and openness that would only normally be achieved by changing expensive system components.
Crucial during the design stage was that the Hyper 3.5 retained the same performance characteristics as the rest of the award winning Hyper range. A painstaking process, every modification was extensively tested in a wide range of systems to confirm that changes were incremental to the family sound.
As with all of Atlas’ cables, Hyper 3.5 speaker cables are hand assembled at the Atlas factory in Scotland. This time consuming yet necessary process means that all Atlas Cables achieve the very highest levels of assembly and finish and is why they are guaranteed for five years from point of purchase. A vital part of the construction is Atlas’ terminations and users have the choice of Atlas’ own OFC Z plugs or spades. Both connectors employ ‘cold-weld’ technology where no solder is used so that the integrity of the signal is maintained from the cable through to the terminal.

We are pleased to offer a free cable burn-in service for this cable when purchased through us. The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine combines three different functions all in one operation:
- It neutralises charges that build up around the cables and the insulation
- It provides a very wide band and deep conditioning into the conductor core, which produces changes in the way signals pass through the metal.
- It ultrasonically conditions the surface of the conductors.
The VIDAR uses a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. Parts of the signal oscillate at ultra-low frequencies, while other parts are in ultra-high ranges which extend beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal bounces in a ping-ping ball-like fashion from one end of the cable to the other. During the burn-in process, ultra-low frequencies penetrate deep into the core of the cable. The ultra-high frequencies zip along the surface. This method of signal transmission a set up beat harmonics, or heterodynes, between the two complex waveforms. In the digital domain, this would be referred to as aliasing products. These beat frequencies penetrate all layers of the cable.
The design of the circuitry also has a unique feature which drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric (or insulation) area. The VIDAR not only sends ping pong signals along the cable, it also sends a similar signal from the centre core to the outer shield in the case of interconnect cables. This function neutralises the electrical charges discussed above.
So what does that all mean to me?
The end result of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation.

We can terminate your cable with Atlas's unique superb 24 Carat gold plated Z plugs designed to fit 4mm sockets on your amplifier and speakers. Z plugs are equivalent to banana plugs and will fit any equipment designed to take banana plugs.
The Atlas Z plug has stood the test of time. Using beryllium copper for the contact area, it's designed to make a 100% contact within the 4mm female socket. The body is made from 100% copper and they're cold welded under pressure in order to amalgamate the conductors to the plug in an air tight seal. The outer sleeve is finished in black coloured ABS or in a turned brass with a fine oven applied powder coat finish. The Atlas Z plug is justifiably considered to be one of best 4mm plugs available. What You Should Know
All cables delete information, the Atlas cables delete least. Factors such as copper quality, that of the dielectrics and the plugs all have an important role to play. The basic design philosophy is the same with all Atlas speaker cables, from the entry level Basic 1.25 to the top of the range Ichor and Mavros cables. The differences between them are in the purity of the Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) or the Ohno Continuous Cast (OCC) copper, the quality of the plugs or spades, through to the number and type of conductors and the way the strands are laid or woven into conductors, and the insulation or dielectrics used. The Atlas Equator, Hyper and Ascent speaker cables can be purchased in different sizes. That's because the larger conductors have a lower resistance to low frequency signals and may provide more bass. In Atlas bi wired cables, the high frequencies are carried over a solid conductor. A solid conductor has a greater occupation area for the HF signal hence improved HF information.
