Noise and interference are the great enemies of reproduced music. The shield system of the Anthem dramatically reduces these and the music sounds more coherent as a result. Subtle tonal differences are easy to hear, as are the tiny dynamic changes that are so critical to the realism of a piece of music. The Anthem will work beautifully with CD players and is outstanding when used with turntables and phono stages.

The Anthem 2 cables are a complete departure from the complex cable geometry and woven configuration of the original Anthem. Although appearing to be a far simpler design, performance is enhanced by the introduction of an extremely advanced multi-layer shielding system. The central conductor core is a multi-stranded silver-plated design. It is surrounded by low density Teflon insulation and a tri-layer silver-plated flat ribbon weave shielding system, similar to that used on the Chord Indigo.

The design and construction of the cable allows it to accurately transfer the subtle micro-dynamic signals that give all the clues about musical performance. The noise floor is significantly reduced and, after a relatively lengthy burn-in time, tonal bandwidth is both wide and neutral.

The shielding system ensures a remarkably consistent performance from system to system. Our research and extensive listening tests convinced us that this is not just a cable for high end systems. Connecting a relatively inexpensive system with an Anthem 2 can produce genuinely surprising results.

The original Chord Company Anthem was the first interconnect in the Chord product range to use a high frequency shielding system. The success of this shielding system prompted further research into high frequency shielding methods. The result of this research enabled the design of the award winning Signature and Indigo series of interconnects and now Anthem 2.

There is a synergy between Anthem 2 interconnects and Epic speaker cable. Both cables make use of advanced shielding systems and although introducing either cable to a hi-fi system will produce outstanding results, putting the two together produces a sum that is greater than the parts.


What is it?

The original Chord Anthem was one of the first available interconnect cables to use a high frequency shield. It was also the first Chord interconnect to be fitted with the ultra low mass RCA plug still used on the Anthem, Signature and Indigo interconnects. The tri-layer silver-plated combined shielding system fitted to the Anthem 2 covers a Teflon insulated multi strand silver-plated signal conductor. This configuration extends the bandwidth that the Anthem 2 will carry, and whilst the benefits of this are clearly audible throughout the frequency range, anyone fitting the Anthem 2 to a system with speakers capable of serious bass extension will be able to feel as well as hear the benefits! The ultra low mass RCA helps to reduce mechanically induced noise by minimising resonance and the Teflon outer jacket damps vibration still further.

Anthem 2 is available fitted with RCA plugs, Din plugs and 3 pin XLR connectors.

Uses

Any decent quality CD player, stand alone phono stage or DVD/SACD player will benefit from the Anthem 2. This is also an extremely good interconnect to use with turntables fitted with phono socket outputs.

How does it sound?

The Anthem 2 builds on the original Anthems outstanding transparency and is able to transmit a wider frequency bandwidth with greater accuracy. Dynamic information is carried in greater detail and as a result, bass performance is both extended and revealed with greater timbral accuracy.
