We can burn-in your cable for up to 96 hours FREE of charge using our Nordost VIDAR cable burner. This is a £3000 machine that will optimise the performance of your cables from day one. This means the cables will be in optimum performance mode when you receive them, so you'll be able to make a performance assessment quickly rather than waiting 70 hours+ of usage. The result of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is, improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation. Please Note: we are unable to burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA-only plugs. (This does not apply to BFA/Banana plugs). Cables are burnt-in for the selected period AFTER your order has been processed. This service is offered at Future Shop's discretion and we cannot guarantee all burn-in requests are fully completed during busy periods.

A quantity of 2 means you will receive a pair of speaker cables e.g. for your front left and front right speakers. By entering a quantity of 1, you will get a cable for a single speaker e.g. centre speaker and this option also enables you to vary the length (and termination) of your cable for each speaker.

OTHER CABLES:

A quantity of 1 means you will receive a single cable in the case of aerial, satellite, subwoofer, digital coaxial & optical cables and a pair of cables in the case of 2 rca to 2 rca analogue audio cables.

NON-CABLE PRODUCTS:

A quantity of 1 means you will receive 1 of the specified products.

Ecosse ES4.45 Biwire Loudspeaker Cable (Pair) - Factory Terminated

Ecosse stands apart in regards to the appropriate conductors one should use in a biwire combination. (ES2.23+ MULTISTRAND + CS2.15 SOLIDCORE)

Ecosse ES2.3 Diagram     Ecosse CS2.15 Diagram

Ecosse's extensive R & D confirms that a mix of multi-stranded and solidcore conductors offer greater dynamics, more extended bandwidth at frequency extremes, and the finest of detail.

For systems offering greater clarity and dynamics, Ecosse offer the superb mid/hi-end biwire set-up ES4.45, which employs separate multi-strand and solidcore conductors- in separate sheaths. With the ES2.23+/CS2.15 (or ES4.45 bi-wire), their ES2.23+ multistrand cable drives the bass/mids and is the perfect match with the CS2.15 solidcore, driving the tweeters. Here Ecosse introduce a large perfectly round solidcore conductor-their, so-called, CS2.15 'speaker cable'.

The CS2.15 is a quality; full bandwidth loudSpeaker cable sometimes necessary when we acknowledge that some amplifier/loudspeaker combinations, while exhibiting many strengths, may suffer well documented slight upper-mid glare and treble edginess (and/or over-emphasised bass). The greater strengths of its 1.5 sq mm perfectly circular solidcore conductors provide the solution to this problem.

The occupation area for the mid and high frequency signals in a solidcore conductor is greater than a stranded conductor of similar X-section, therefore resistance is reduced and delivery of high frequency information is improved and even extended. Low DC resistance meanwhile maintains low frequency extension and control, presenting it with weight, speed and perfect pitch accuracy. The result is an improved sense of ambience and larger soundstage; vocals are clearer with real presence and natural breath tones; glare and edginess give way to a sweeter and more detailed treble.

A loudspeaker consists of two drive units. - a high-frequency (HF) unit (tweeter), and a low frequency (LF) unit (woofer) they employ a "cross-over network" to direct low signal frequencies to the woofer, and high frequencies to the tweeter. This set up enables the loudspeaker to be bi-wired.

In a biwire configuration 2 pairs of speaker cables are employed in order to ensure that the signals for the tweeter and woofer are sent by separate routes. Here, the cables feeding the higher frequencies (H.F.) are not affected by electromagnetic interference from the low frequency signals (L.F.), which are carried in separate conductors.

Ecosse ES4.45 What Hi-Fi? 5 Star Review

"We were intrigued and a bit dubious about the coupled design of this biwire. But make no mistake: Ecosse's ES2.23+ (nee ES2.3)/CS2.15 is superb." "…you can't do better than the fabulous ES2.23+( nee ES2.3)/CS2.15 biwire. It communicates all the dynamics, subtlety and realism that the system has to offer."

What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision

Biwiring Advantages

Using a biwiring configuration the net effect is a reduction in impedance seen by the amplifier; load is reduced and frequency response increased. The upshot of which is a genuine extension of soundstage and dynamics.

The ES4.45 is available factory pre-terminated and in nylon webbing- to keep the cables tidy. It represents Ecosse's no-compromise, quality performance biwire cable set. Suitable for both biwiring and bi-amping. In a tri-wire or tri-amp set-up, Ecosse recommend the ES2.3 driving the bass units and 2 runs of CS2.15, one driving the mid units and one driving the treble units for ultimate bandwidth extension and presence.

Cable sheathed in BLACK nylon braid for tidy installation. May be configured 2-to-4 or 4-to-4 and terminated in z/x copper bananas or spades.

Free Cable Burn-In Service Option Using The Nordost Vidar Machine

Please Note: We are unable to burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. Cables are burnt-in for the selected time period AFTER your order has been processed. Custom-length cables are burnt-in for the selected time period AFTER they have be terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers.

Our cable burn-in service is a non-chargeable service and is provided by Future Shop at its discretion. We will attempt to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods. However, during extremely busy periods, we regret we may not be able to meet demand for all requests due to the limited connections available on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.

We are pleased to offer a free cable burn-in service for this cable when purchased through Future Shop. The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine combines three distinct functions all in one operation:

  • It neutralises charges that build up around the cables and the insulation
  • It provides a very wide band and deep conditioning into the conductor core, which produces changes in the way signals pass through the metal.
  • It ultrasonically conditions the surface of the conductors.

Nordost Vidar Burn-in Machine

The VIDAR uses a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. Parts of the signal oscillate at ultra-low frequencies, while other parts are in ultra-high ranges which extend beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal bounces in a ping-ping ball-like fashion from one end of the cable to the other. During the burn-in process, ultra-low frequencies penetrate deep into the core of the cable. The ultra-high frequencies zip along the surface. This method of signal transmission is set up to beat harmonics, or heterodynes, between the two complex waveforms. In the digital domain, this would be referred to as aliasing products. These beat frequencies penetrate all layers of the cable.

The design of the circuitry also has a unique feature which drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric (or insulation) area. The VIDAR not only sends ping pong signals along the cable, it also sends a similar signal from the centre core to the outer shield in the case of interconnect cables. This function neutralises the electrical charges discussed above.

So, what does that all mean to me?
The end result of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation.
