As with any QED cable, an enormous amount of attention has been paid to the materials and geometry of XT5. In a drive to minimise the degrading ‘proximity effect’ created as current density accumulates in the conductors nearest to each other, QED has applied the lauded X-Tube technology first developed for its award-winning range of loudspeaker cables. By more effectively regulating current flow to audio equipment, the equipment is free to perform as its designers intended.

The XT5 also features a ferrite-impregnated jacket – designed to shield the X-Tube conductor cores from mains derived radio frequency noise. As a result, high-frequency noise signals than can adversely affect the performance of audio electronics are effectively eliminated.

This kind of imaginative thinking and rigorous execution is typical of QED, and it means the XT5’s X-Tube configuration is way beyond what any nominal competitor can offer.

QED XT40i Speaker Cable As befits a company rapidly closing in on its fifth decade at the forefront of speaker cable design, QED’s brand new XT40i speaker cable builds on the formidable reputation of the XT40 cable it replaces and offers a decisive step up in sound quality. This pure oxygen-free copper cable uses an evolution of QED’s established X-Tube technology to guarantee superb timing and stereo imaging, and adds the brand new and highly innovative Air Gap dielectric to bring unheard-of rhythmic accuracy and musicality to a cable of this modest price. Very low DC resistance adds unrivalled frequency response to XT40i’s already potent audio capability. The result is a cable that advances on the class-leading standards set by its predecessor. Air Gap Dielectric By increasing the separation of the conductors inside the cable, and therefore the amount of air between them, QED has created a low-loss Air Gap dielectric. This technology halves the dissipation and capacitance characteristics of the cable, and results in numerous audible improvements - particularly where timing and rhythmic accuracy are concerned. Despite this increased separation, though, XT40i retains the sort of cross-sectional area that makes it ideal for long cable runs. Large Cross-Sectional Area The 4mm2 cross sectional area means XT40 exhibits very low resistance, allowing amplifiers to exert outstanding control over the speakers they are driving. In addition, its large cross sectional area makes it suitable for long cable runs.

QED Reference Audio 40 Cable

The Audio 40 cable range is an entirely new design concept from QED labs. The cordage is designed primarily for low capacitance as this has been identified by QED as a significant factor which leads to a high fidelity experience, making for a tight sound and retaining the rhythm of the original piece. Add our Complementary Conductor Technology™ for high frequency detail and our Analoc Technology™ to maximise signal integrity and the result is what we feel to be the most innovative interconnect ever made by QED.

Complementary Conductor Technology™

This innovation utilises two conductors of different diameters to carry the same audio signal. This has the effect of providing an alternative path for high frequency audio components which might otherwise become time smeared in a single audio pathway.

Foamed Polyethylene Dielectric

Foamed Polyethylene has a low dielectric constant and has been used to cut down on the amount of audio signal energy lost due to cable capacitance.

ANALOC™ Locking RCA Plugs

The new QED Analoc™ plug is a low eddy current design featuring small high purity copper conductors in place of the usual large volume brass body found in ordinary high quality plugs. This cuts down or eliminates the tendency for the changing magnetic field in the conductor to induce eddy currents which can affect the micro-timing of the audio signal.
