Why mains matters in a hi-fi system
Every component in your system runs on the mains supply, and whatever noise arrives at the wall arrives at your equipment. Switch mode supplies, LED lighting, chargers and neighbouring properties all put high frequency noise onto the ring main, and audio equipment varies widely in how well it rejects it.
There is a sensible order to work through. A decent mains cable to the source and the amplifier is the usual starting point. A power block gives every component a common earth reference and removes the daisy chained extension leads most systems end up with. Conditioners go further by filtering, though heavy filtering placed in series with a power amplifier can restrict current, so the choice depends on what is plugged in.
This is an area where claims outrun evidence more often than anywhere else in hi-fi, and we will tell you when we think something will not do much in your system. Mains cables can usually be made to the length you need with optional free burn-in, like the rest of the cable range.
