Terminating mains cable safely
The plug and the IEC connector are part of the current path, and the contact material, clamping pressure and internal wiring all affect how well that path performs over years of use. Audio grade connectors use better contact plating and firmer clamping than standard fittings.
Match the connector to both ends of the job. The wall end takes a UK plug in the UK, a Schuko in most of continental Europe, or a US plug in North America. The equipment end takes C13, C15, C19 or Figure 8 depending on the inlet. Chassis inlets replace the socket on the equipment itself, which is a job for a qualified person and will usually void the warranty.
Fuse rating matters in UK plugs. Fit the rating the equipment requires rather than defaulting to 13A on everything, and check the manufacturer's specification. Mains wiring has to be done competently, and if you are at all unsure, buy a made up cable instead. Most mains cable can be terminated to order here with no making charge.
