What Atlas do differently, and why it matters that they build it themselves

Most cable brands design in one country and manufacture in another. Atlas do both in Kilmarnock, and that single fact explains a lot about how they operate. Custom lengths are ordinary rather than special orders. Termination changes are a production decision rather than a negotiation with a supplier. If a cable needs to be 2.7 metres with one end changed, that is a normal Tuesday.

Two engineering positions run through the range. The first is OCC copper, drawn as a continuous cast so the conductor has far fewer grain boundaries than standard copper. Fewer boundaries means fewer points where the signal meets a discontinuity.

The second is cold-weld termination. Instead of soldering the connector on, Atlas join it under high pressure so the two metals form a direct bond. Solder is a different metal with different conductivity sitting in the signal path, and Atlas take the view that removing it is worth the extra manufacturing step.

Neither position is unique to Atlas, but doing both, in-house, at prices that start well below high-end territory is unusual. It is why the entry ranges hold up better than their price suggests.

Atlas run one ladder for their signal cables, from Element at the entry point up to the Asimi silver range. The biggest single step is Hyper to Mavros, where OCC copper runs throughout. Eos and Zeno sit outside the ladder and cover mains and headphone cables. Most Atlas cables can be built to a custom length.

Atlas uses a tiered “Performance Level” system:

  • Upgrade (Element, Equator): Entry-level upgrade over bundled cables
  • Aspire (Hyper, Ailsa): Enhanced shielding and construction
  • High End (Mavros, Asimi, Arran): For reference-level audiophile systems

You can mix levels across your system. For example, pairing a Hyper speaker cable with a Mavros interconnect, to balance performance and budget.

Atlas connectors are low-mass, non-magnetic, and cold-welded for an air-tight connection. This design avoids solder contamination and preserves signal bandwidth, reducing mechanical interference that can degrade sound quality.

Atlas Cables are engineered with a focus on signal integrity and long-term reliability. They use high-purity conductors (including OCC (Ohno Continuous Cast) copper and silver) to minimise grain boundaries and resistive losses. Unlike soldered joints, Atlas terminations use cold-weld technology, creating gas-tight connections without heat damage or contamination.

Their dielectric materials, such as PTFE and micro-porous PEF, are chosen for their low dielectric constant, which helps preserve timing, reduce capacitance, and prevent signal smearing. Shielding is carefully applied to reduce RFI/EMI without compromising flexibility. Every design detail (from conductor geometry to connector mass) is optimised to ensure wide bandwidth, low noise, and a neutral, transparent sound.

While entry-level cables may get the job done, Atlas Cables are engineered to reveal more of your system’s potential. Their designs minimise signal loss, interference, and timing distortion, key factors that affect clarity, dynamics, and listening fatigue. With in-house manufacturing, premium materials, and a five-year warranty, Atlas offers long-term value, consistent performance, and a meaningful upgrade for any serious Hi-Fi or AV setup.

Atlas cables consistently win praise from reviewers and customers alike for delivering genuine performance improvements at sensible price points. Their mid-range lines such as the Hyper and Equator regularly appear in best-buy lists, and even the entry-level Element cables outperform many generic alternatives. If you want a Scottish-made cable with a clear upgrade path, Atlas is hard to beat.
