Atlas Element Toslink Digital Optical Audio Cable

A digital interconnect with a neutral, relaxing sound, proven to be an excellent performance upgrade over ‘freebie’ cables, designed for use with the optical digital sockets typically fitted to CD players/transports and streaming audio devices. Typical usage is to connect, for example, a streaming device such as an Apple Airport Express or Sonos ‘Connect’ to your hifi system.

Toslink (optical) connections have become increasingly popular with the rise of ‘dual purpose’ personal audio devices and DACs, many of which are also used as components in high quality home systems. However basic ‘bundled’ Toslink cables suffer from a number of issues which degrade the performance of the system. Typically these issues include poor quality core conductor materials, poor matching of conductor to connectors and poor fit of connectors to equipment sockets. These flaws typically combine in very poor ‘jitter’ performance which gives a grainy, tonally bleached sound characteristic of poor quality digital audio.

Atlas' Toslink cables are designed to specifically address these issues, using a high quality PMMA (‘acrylic glass’) light conducting core coupled with precision machined and micro-polished ABS connectors to maximise efficient transfer. Accurate alignment of the cable components and connectors means the cable is optimised for low jitter performance, resulting in a detailed yet smooth sound ideally suited to digital devices.

Features :

  • Atlas Toslink Plug
  • PMMA Conductors

Atlas Toslink Plug

The Atlas Toslink connector combines a die-cast metal plug with ABS Toslink connectors.

PMMA Conductors

Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), sometimes known as ‘acrylic glass’ clad in a high efficiency fluoropolymer.

Single Fibre Construction

The cable is constructed using a light-conducting core surrounded by a material of a lower refractive index than that of the core material all contained within a soft protective anti-vibration cover.

About Atlas Cables Made in United Kingdom

Atlas Cables are a major producer of interconnects and cables in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. All products are researched, developed and most are assembled in the Atlas purpose built factory in Scotland.

Many of these products are unique and use advanced techniques of production or manufacture in order to bring to the user the very finest quality products. With each new model we continue to push the boundaries of reliability and performance. It's little wonder then, that Atlas Cables have had so many mile-stone advances in the past and that Atlas Cables have secured so many awards in comparative tests against other products.

About Atlas Cables

Scottish cable maker that designs and builds its own conductors, connectors and cables rather than assembling bought-in parts.

Atlas researches, designs and produces its cables in Scotland, with a handful of exceptions. Many cable brands assemble off-the-shelf components, but Atlas specifies the conductors, insulation and terminations itself and tests the result in its own listening room. It offers a five-year guarantee on its cables.

The plugs are Atlas designs too

Atlas designs its own RCA plugs. The Achromatic and Ultra RCAs are built for low mass and high bandwidth, and the newer Metik connectors were developed for personal audio. Designing the connectors in house means Atlas is not limited to what an outside supplier already sells.

Three performance levels, with named ranges in each

The catalogue is arranged in three performance levels. Upgrade covers Element and Equator, Aspire covers Hyper and Ailsa, and High End covers Mavros, Arran, Eos and Zeno. You can choose the level that suits the rest of your system, then move up later without changing brand.

Custom options and a repair service

Atlas lists luxe and speaker termination options, so you can specify a cable to suit the equipment at each end. It also repairs, customises and upgrades its cables through a dedicated service, which means you can bring an older cable up to date instead of replacing it.

Why we stock Atlas

Atlas run pure copper conductors through most of the range rather than silver or silver plating. That gives a warmer, more forgiving balance than the silver-plated cables we sell. If your system is already leaning bright, Atlas is usually where we point you first. Hand-built in Scotland, and we have sold them since 2008.

AI Review Summary — Generated from 14 Reviews

This Toslink optical cable receives consistent praise for build quality, sound clarity improvement over standard cables, and reasonable pricing. Most customers report noticeable enhancements in audio clarity, bass definition, and overall sound quality when upgrading from basic included cables. The cable is described as well-made, flexible, and featuring quality connectors, with UK manufacturing noted positively. However, recurring issues emerged regarding connector fit: some customers report looser connections with the gold-plated metal connectors compared to previous ABS versions, and one reviewer noted the connector does not hold as securely as a budget alternative. Packaging changes from paper to nylon were also mentioned in one review. One customer detected no significant sound difference from standard cables, though still valued the solid construction. Recurring complaints center on recent changes to connector design compromising fit reliability.

Good value upgrade 20 December 2024
This is a very worthwhile upgrade from the very basic Toslink cables that come free with some kit or cost buttons on the ‘Rain Forest’. I use it to connect my new TV to my Naim NDX2. It’s well made and offers clear benefits to the clarity of the lower mid and bass and the imagery.

Futureshop is a good folk to deal with, too.

High quality toslink optical cable 7 November 2024
I am very pleased with my purchase. The cable is nicely made, especially the connectors.

The cable is light and flexible. I connected my TV to my amplifier so I could enjoy Jools Holland's show in supper quality. I am not disappointed. I highly recommend it, not to mention that it was made in the UK.

Neutral sound. 1 August 2024
I bought the same cable a second time because I liked the sound it transmits. Unfortunately, the new one came with worse tips painted in gold from hard plasma. The previous one was much better.

The packaging itself is no longer paper, but nylon.

Does the job 8 June 2024
This replaced a Chord optical cable and made a much better connection than the Chord.

The price is perfect as well.
