When to use fibre optic HDMI
Fibre optic HDMI converts the signal to light for the length of the run, which removes the distance limit that affects copper. It is the correct choice for projector installations, ceiling runs, and any cable pulled through a wall where replacing it later would mean redecorating.
These cables are directional. One end is marked for the source and one for the display, and connecting them the wrong way round produces no picture at all. Check the connector dimensions against your conduit or trunking before pulling the cable, since the display end is often the larger of the two.
Some fibre optic HDMI draws a small amount of power from the source, and a few installations need USB power injection at one end. Where a run is going into a wall, order a longer cable than the measured distance and allow for the actual route rather than the straight line.
