When to use fibre optic HDMI

Fibre optic HDMI converts the signal to light for the length of the run, which removes the distance limit that affects copper. It is the correct choice for projector installations, ceiling runs, and any cable pulled through a wall where replacing it later would mean redecorating.

These cables are directional. One end is marked for the source and one for the display, and connecting them the wrong way round produces no picture at all. Check the connector dimensions against your conduit or trunking before pulling the cable, since the display end is often the larger of the two.

Some fibre optic HDMI draws a small amount of power from the source, and a few installations need USB power injection at one end. Where a run is going into a wall, order a longer cable than the measured distance and allow for the actual route rather than the straight line. Tell us the run length and the resolution and refresh rate you need to support, and we will confirm the specification before you order.

An HDMI extender allows high-definition video and audio signals to travel far beyond the limits of a standard HDMI cable. CYP Europe offers a complete range of extenders, including HDBaseT models, with support for 4K UHD, HDR, and Power over Cable (PoC). These deliver stable long-distance performance that installers can rely on for both residential and commercial AV projects.

HDMI over IP, sometimes called AV over IP, converts video and audio into IP packets that can be distributed across a standard Ethernet network. This approach allows for scalable and flexible AV systems with extended reach, simplified control, and cost-effective multi-display installations. CYP Europe’s AV over IP solutions provide future-ready performance that integrates seamlessly into modern networks.

HDMI 2.1 offers significantly higher bandwidth than HDMI 2.0 (48Gbps vs 18Gbps), supporting 4K at 120Hz, 8K at 60Hz, Dynamic HDR, and advanced gaming features such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). These upgrades provide smoother visuals and better sound when used with compatible devices.

Yes. Ultra High Speed HDMI cables are certified to handle the full 48Gbps bandwidth required for 4K/120Hz and 8K signals. They also ensure compatibility with features like eARC and Dynamic HDR for optimal performance.

Passive HDMI cables typically work up to 5–7m without issues. For longer runs, use active HDMI or fibre optic HDMI cables, which maintain full 4K/8K signal integrity over extended distances.

For distances over 10m, use active HDMI, HDBaseT extenders, or fibre HDMI cables. These maintain 4K/8K signal quality without loss.
