Replacing a switch mode power supply
Most small audio components arrive with a switching wall adaptor chosen for cost and size rather than noise performance. Replacing it with a linear or low noise supply is one of the more reliably audible upgrades available to a streaming system, particularly where the component's own internal regulation is modest.
Three specifications have to match. Voltage must be exactly what the equipment expects. Current capacity must equal or exceed the original supply, and more is not a problem. Polarity is usually centre positive but not always, and getting it wrong can damage the equipment, so check the label on the original adaptor before ordering.
The router and network switch feeding a streamer are also running on switching supplies, and upgrading those is sometimes more effective than upgrading the streamer's own. Send us the model and a photo of the original adaptor label and we will confirm the correct specification before you buy.
