An honest word on hi-fi fuses
Fuses are the most contested product category we sell. A fuse is a safety device, its job is to fail, and the argument that the material and construction of a few millimetres of wire affects the sound of a system is one many people reject on principle. We understand why.
What we can tell you is what we hear and what our customers report. A number of listeners describe a lower noise floor and better resolution after changing a mains fuse, and repeat purchasing in this category is high. Others try one and hear nothing at all. We would not put a fuse near the top of an upgrade list ahead of cables, isolation or a decent mains block, and we will say so if you ask.
Two rules apply regardless of where you stand on the question. Never fit a higher rating than the equipment specifies, because the fuse is there to protect you and the equipment. And check the physical size, since 20mm and 32mm equipment fuses are not interchangeable. If you want to try one, start with a single fuse rather than changing several at once, so you can hear what each change does.
