Future Shop proudly presents Quantum Science Audio (QSA), pioneers in the audiophile fuse industry with over 22 years of expertise in combating 'Bottle Neck Distortion'. QSA's fuses, once overlooked, now play a crucial role in enhancing audio system performance. They effectively tackle 'bottlenecking' issues, significantly improving system output. Our evaluations, supported by external feedback, affirm that QSA fuses remarkably upgrade audio systems across their range. The YELLOW fuse, with advanced material treatments, offers refined audio performance, delivering clearer, detailed sound for systems balancing quality and value.

Quantum Science Audio (QSA) Yellow Entry Level UK Mains Fuse

Future Shop is very excited to introduce Quantum Science Audio, the undisputed heavyweights in the audiophile fuse space. With more than 22 years of research into what they call 'Bottle Neck Distortion', QSA products can remarkably enhance your enjoyment of your system for such a small component, until recently considered irrelevant by many in the industry. Since all current that enters a power cable or component in your system must pass through the fuse before it proceeds, the fuse's quality or lack thereof can drastically affect your system's performance. QSA fuses aim to reduce the negative effects of what QSA describe as 'bottlenecking', which can help your system perform to its full potential.

Much of this may sound outrageous, but only to those who have not heard it for themselves. Having conducted our own listening tests and based on external feedback, we are convinced that these fuses- all the way through the range- offer an upgrade to a system that can match components many times the price.

The YELLOW fuse is intended to offer a more refined audio performance. It incorporates further advancements in material treatment over the QSA Light-Blue fuse, aiming to provide clearer and more detailed audio reproduction for systems requiring a delicate balance of quality and value.

The next one up in the range is the VIOLET Mid-Level fuse. Positioned in the mid-range category, the VIOLET fuse includes comprehensive Quantum level treatments. It is aimed at audiophiles who are seeking noticeable improvements in sound depth and fidelity over entry-level options.

Each fuse in the QSA lineup is unique, catering to different preferences and audio systems. Ranging from entry-level to high-fidelity enhancements, these fuses are developed with the goal of enhancing the listening experience. However, the impact of these fuses on audio quality can be subjective and may vary based on individual systems and preferences. Users are encouraged to personally evaluate their performance.

Enhance Your Experience: Free Cable Burn-In Service with Nordost VIDAR Machine

Please take note of the following details regarding our cable burn-in service:

  • Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
  • Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
  • Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.

The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:

  1. Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
  2. Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
  3. Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.

The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal moves back and forth along the cable, penetrating deep into the core with ultra-low frequencies and traversing the surface with ultra-high frequencies. This transmission method generates beat harmonics between the two complex waveforms, which permeate all layers of the cable. The circuitry of the VIDAR also drives electrons from the conductor into the insulation area, neutralizing electrical charges.

Nordost Vidar Burn-in Machine

So, what does this all mean for you?

The ultimate outcome of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation in your audio system.

Now, you may wonder why cable burn-in is necessary. During cable manufacturing, gasses become trapped as insulation is applied over the conductors. Additionally, new cables often possess high electrical charges, resulting in a brittle and bright sound that lacks the desired detail and depth for music production.

When cables undergo burn-in, the trapped gasses are dissipated, and small impurities in the conductor metals begin to exhibit diode-like behaviour, favouring current flow in a specific direction.

Here are the physical effects of the burn-in process:

  • Charge Neutralisation: The burn-in process neutralizes charges in the conductors and insulation, promoting a more balanced electrical environment.
  • Wide Bandwidth Frequencies: The conditioning affects how signals pass through the metal, enabling a wider range of frequencies to penetrate all cable layers.
  • Signal Transmission: The burn-in process establishes the directionality of the cable, optimizing signal transmission from one end to the other.

When cables are properly burnt in, you can expect the following audible changes in your audio system:

  • Fuller and Natural Sound: Your system should be capable of producing a more immersive and realistic performance with a fuller and more natural sound.
  • Increased Detail: You may notice enhanced details and nuances in the music, allowing you to perceive subtle elements that were previously hidden.
  • Improved Soundstage: The dimensionality of your system's soundstage can be greatly improved, creating a more spacious and immersive listening experience.

At Future Shop, our goal is to maximise your satisfaction. That's why we offer a free burn-in service on all our cables before they arrive at your door, enabling you to sit back and enjoy the benefits of properly conditioned cables in your audio system.

I have left more detailed reviews of this fantastic little fuse, but the best endorsement I can give is that, so far, I have purchased four Yellow and one Violet fuse, plus another Yellow on order. I also listened to Hifi Tuning Supreme, Supreme Diamond, and SR Purple, and these QSA fuses, whilst improving every metric, were more “natural” to my ears.

Give one a try and move it between components to gauge where it improves the most—it does vary, but I guarantee you will want more.

Happy with what this does
3 Dec 2024
I first plugged this in an Audioquest cable to my Naim Nap300 and noticed a decent improvement in clarity, good enough to be pleased with the cost outlay. A few days later I switched it to a Chord power cable into my Chord S6 power block. This has the plugs for my Naim Nac252 and sources; the improvement was even greater.

There is no warming or changing the sound, no shift in highs, mids, or lows, but instead a significant increase in precision, detail, and clarity of sounds.

Amazing. Now, I'm putting another back in the power amp, too.

Worthwhile upgrade
2 Dec 2024
From initial scepticism to trying one, I now have a number of these fuses and can confirm they are definitely a worthwhile upgrade. The improvement is relatively much greater than the cost of the fuse so, on this basis, they are excellent value.

They make the sound more “natural”, and there is a palpable increase in clarity. As mentioned, I started off with one to assess its benefit, and the effectiveness does vary with different components, so it is worth auditioning across your system.

In summary, I would recommend trying one and auditioning the benefits in different parts of your system and I am sure you will want to buy more fuses.

I can wholeheartedly recommend QSA fuses. I started with one Yellow to hear for myself, tried it in a number of components and have been so impressed with the level of improvement relative to cost (equivalent IMO to a £650 set of interconnects or power cable!) that I will roll them out one at a time across my system, checking improvement each time.

I also have one Violet, which is even better, but having already invested heavily in power upgrades, the Yellow is a cost sweet spot for me.

Fundamentally, detail, coherence, timbre, and listening pleasure improve. They do need time to bed in and continue to improve.

Convinced
11 Nov 2024
Having sceptically dipped my toe into the waters of fuses, I am now convinced, and this is my second.

This yellow fuse, without a doubt (to my ears), improves the soundstage, naturalness, and dynamics. How dramatic the effect is varies with different components. For example, there is a marked improvement with my sources and reasonable improvement with my headphone amp, but a lesser improvement with my power amps, probably because they already have excellent power regulation.

Absolutely worth auditioning because the improvement on the right component is excellent value.

Best fuse so far
5 Nov 2024
I finally sorted out my system and interconnects and was happy with everything.

I was massively sceptical about power upgrades but thought it was worth a dabble to see if there would be any incremental gains, so starting with power cables, I found surprising gains. Then fuses came into the frame with even greater scepticism, and I dabbled with cheaper fuses from another company, which justified my scepticism by making my ears clench.

Following some excellent input from Mark at Futureshop, I was persuaded to try this QSA Yellow with 96 hrs burn-in. My ears have certainly been unclenched, and I have been surprised by the improvement.

Most of my plugs are Furutech, so it’s a faff to change fuses around, but I have one plug with a fuse cassette that powers a streamer, and this yellow fuse has removed any hint of digital glare. Plus, the sound is natural and engaging, with increased clarity and soundstage without changing the character of my system. So, I’m convinced that other fuses are on order, and I’m looking forward to auditioning for analogue components in particular.

I recommend trying this fuse, particularly if you’re generally happy with your system because there are real gains to be had.

I put this in my WireWorld Matrix 2, and what a massive difference.

This feeds my Blue & Black QSA fuses in my system, making the sound and picture exceptionally good.

Mind-blowing fuse
11 Aug 2024
Verified Buyer
After buying a very good QSA Light Blue fuse, I decided to go with this QSA Yellow.

I used this fuse for my Wireworld Matrix 2 strip and was blown over by how much more quality it gave me.

Even more clarity in the bass, and improved my C1OLED TV picture quality. But the sound on my hifi is so much sharper and clearer. This fuse is unbelievably good.

Excellent return on investment

Verified Buyer
I'd had the QSA Light Blue (QLB) 13A fuse for around ten days (and have already submitted a review for it—check that out if you have a mind to) when I decided to buy the QSA Yellow (QY) earlier than I'd planned because I was so impressed with the former.

I've possibly not yet fully broken in the QSA Yellow (nor even the QSA Light Blue), but I can confirm that it sounds better already. The QSA Light Blue was previously in one of the £25 MRCU ready-wired mains cables used for my Acoustic Invader preamplifier. It sounded better there than with my Gustard R26 DAC. Incidentally, I've found the two fuses to work better for me in the "wrong" direction in my MRCU mains plugs.

At first, I simply tried the QSA Yelow alone for my preamp. Next, I simultaneously tried both the QSA Yellow (for my preamp) and the QSA Light Blue (for my DAC) and vice versa. Surprisingly, both combinations sounded worse than with the QSA Yeelow alone. Hence, I have subsequently moved the QSA Light Blue to the mains cable for the integrated amp (an Audiolab 6000A) I use in my second near-field system. It gives a noticeable improvement there, too -- so I haven't wasted my money on it.

I've no real idea why a (singular) QSA fuse makes a difference, but my ears tell me it does. If you're anything like me, you too may have noticed that your (untreated) system sounds 100% at its best *only occasionally* (mood? weather?). Most of the time, it sounds at only around 70-80%.

When I used a QSA Light Blue, it not only improved the sound to around 130% but, in my opinion -- more importantly -- did so *reliably and consistently*.

As for the QSA Yellow, I'd put the improvement (so far) on the same subjective scale at around 150%. I probably won't be spending three times as much as the QSA Yellow on the QSA Violet (£620) -- diminishing returns seem quite possible, and in any case, I'm more than satisfied with what I've got.

What are the perceived sound improvements through the Decware ZF15M open baffle clones used in my primary system?

. Better and more holographic soundstage
. Better dynamics
. More easily discernible instrumental/vocal threads
. Better tonality/timbre
. Increased subtlety and refinement
. Noticeably greater emotional engagement. I've been playing tracks that I'd tended to skip more often. The QSA fuses seem to have breathed new life into them.

I'd summarise by saying that the return on investment for both fuses far exceeds what I've obtained from other system tweaks I've introduced in the past. If, as I am, you are the cautious type, you might consider dipping your toes into the weird and wonderful world of fuses with the £86 QLB as I did -- maybe even with the £50 QSA Black. One could easily spend as much on equipment supports for a smaller effect. I've found I don't have to strain to hear the improvements -- they're obvious from the start and get better as the fuse beds in.

A Remarkable Innovation!
27 Feb 2024

Having experienced other fuses for the past five years, I was intrigued to try these very high-end fuses. Following a long discussion with Geoff at Future Shop, I made a considerable investment in a Yellow QSA fuse. I took Geoff’s advice and patiently sat through 300 hours of burn-in. The result has been wonderful - hence a further investment in my active speakers.

I loaded my most recent into my high-end mains block, which has my Martin Logan Oddessy plugged into it - wow!! Great separation and detail.

My TV has also improved with improved colour and tones.

Thank you, Geoff, thank you, Future Shop!!

Remarkable Performance!
22 Jan 2024
Verified Buyer
I have been a regular customer of probably the biggest rival to QSA and was very satisfied with their Purple Fuse. I have read an immense about these QSA Fuses, and after exhaustive questioning of Geoff at Futureshop, I took the plunge and bought the “Yellow “. I asked Geoff, who was exceptionally patient in answering all my questions. The two key issues were “burn-in” time and fuse positioning.

I am 242 hours into burn-in of 300 hours. Thanks to Geoff I knew to expect the ebbs of flows of the burn-in process. Both audio and video have improved considerably as I approach the burn-in summit. The picture is sharper and brighter, and the audio is a delight with a wider soundstage and much greater reality.

A great investment which was enhanced by Future Shop’s Geoff!

Thank you yet again Future Shop!

Put this into my Auralic DAC to replace an SR Orange. Big step up in clarity, and the soundstage took about 20 hours to get there. Now that I've gone down the rabbit hole of QSA, I'll swap out all fuses, that's 6 more, but it will be worth it based on what I've already heard.

Probably equivalent to a major component upgrade at half the cost.

An Essential Upgrade
27 Nov 2023

I already use RA ultra fuses and thought that they were very good, but this Yellow fuse is extraordinary.

It feeds an extension block through 24 cores into a valve amplifier, and the uplift after the 96-hour burn-in is quite astounding. It is as clear as a bell, with more definition to every instrument, stronger tuneful bass lines and more powerful drumming.

It sounds faster and better with better rhythm and timing. It makes listening to your music even more pleasurable, and I still have a spare fuse to throw in the mix elsewhere.

An essential upgrade.

Hearing is believing

Having read a few negative comments on various forums about fuses, I was eager for this product to perform in the manner I believed it could.

Happily, it did, and it’s quite obvious the people who say fuses don’t/can’t work have never heard the QSA yellow. Deeper soundstage and better stereo imagery made everything more life-like and natural.

I advise anyone sceptical about fuses to listen to one from QSA and hear for yourself.

It's a great product, thoroughly recommended.

Do it. Just, do it. It's worth it. It's REALLY worth it...

In a previous review, I admitted to having overlooked my preamp in my QSA fuse "odyssey," with my power amp, DAC, and streamer basking in the yellow magic. It was a blunder.

When I gifted it a black fuse, it only accentuated this evident omission. Feeling red-faced and sheepish, I tuned in to the newfound spaciousness that had been "unearthed" in the music I held dear. But a lingering thought persisted - it warranted a yellow fuse... So, without too much self-talk, I took the plunge.

Once I swapped the black for yellow, it was clear that it was no mistake. The separation was nothing short of glorious, and crucially, it didn't overstretch the soundstage. It was akin to space within space.

For those who may question the wisdom of investing £800 in four fuses, let me assure you that it's a decision that I consider worth every penny. The transformation these little yellow fuses have wrought upon my audio setup is nothing short of astonishing. It's as if I've unveiled hidden layers of my favourite music, exposing nuances I never knew existed. If your setup has a preamp, don't ignore it. Go on, spoil it rotten!
Essentially, it's not just a sonic upgrade but a standing ovation-worthy performance.

A fuse (A FUSE!); how can a fuse possibly make a difference? I have no idea HOW it does, I just know that it HAS done - like, a LOT!

After a lengthy phone discussion with the rather brilliant (and knowledgeable) Mark from the Future Shop team, he advised starting off with it on my power amp, which I did.

It's difficult to describe the sound, but here goes: the sound almost instantly changed to appear more "real", more present and less like a recording. Everything is more defined and more articulate in its presentation.

With my mind fairly blown away, I then started swapping the fuse around between my remaining three components - the streamer, DAC and preamp - and found that the next "best" improvement was on the streamer (I have an Ever Solo DMP A6), which opened up the soundstage in the most glorious way. So much so that a week later, I was on the phone again with Mark, ordering my second yellow fuse for said streamer.

As I said, I have no idea why and certainly not how a fuse can have such a profound effect on my system. I just know that it has.

Is £200 a lot for a fuse? Well, yes and no. If you haven't experienced its effect, then (possibly) yes, it could appear absurd. If you have experienced the difference, though, as I have, then I would strongly argue that it's a "small" price to pay.

I bought this to place at the front of my system in the Isotek Evo3 Sirius mains conditioner plug. All my gear is then plugged into the Sirius.

There was an instant improvement in all aspects of the sound, even though I already had SR Purple fuses feeding my streamer, DAC and Amp. This shows that maybe getting the right fuse at the head of the chain is the place to start.

It also significantly improved the performance of my AV equipment. It’s like I’ve upgraded my OLED tv. If you can afford it…buy it!

When you first change the fuses out, it sounds huge, but the details are a bit lost and unrefined. Ten hours in, the bass decreases, and it's a really wonky journey sound-wise until 80 hours which is when it starts stabilizing. The burn-in stopped around 185 hours, and when these were finished, I got the most balanced sound I've heard in any setup.

Nothing sounds out of place vocals and instruments are as loud as each other.

Deep controlled sound but still with a clearer insight into vocals, including the backing singers. Nice.

Outstanding fuse!

After reading about this fuse in conjunction with PS Audio power regenerator PP15, I decided to try it.

I had it burned in for 48 hours and installed it between the wall and the power regenerator. OK, but not great. I ran it in for another 50 hours, and it became an excellent tiny bit of kit.

The treble was clearer with more detail. The Bass was clearer, and I could follow a bass guitar better. The soundstage was more comprehensive and deeper. Every instrument was nailed in place. The vocals were clearer and more realistic. Everything just sounded better.

Worth every penny of £200. By placing it in front of the power regenerator, it improved every bit of kit plugged into the PP15

I had previously been using fuses from another well-regarded company. These had given me a very nice upgrade in performance over standard fuses. I came across QSA on the Futureshop website, and my interest was immediately piqued. I bought a yellow one and put it on the mains plug for my Puritan conditioner. What an improvement! More yellow fuses quickly followed for my streamer and tube head amp, with a blue added to my DAC. Performance increased further In all the ways described by other reviewers.

One point worth emphasising is these fuses are very directional. I'd added the four fuses to my system and let them burn in for around 100 hours. The sound improved nicely over this period, and I was very happy. Then I started to check the direction of each fuse individually. I reversed the direction of two fuses, and the increase in sound quality was unbelievable. For me, the difference when changing the fuse direction was not immediately noticeable, but it became apparent after 10-15 minutes of listening.

Now, I wonder what a purple would sound like on my mains conditioner?

My thanks to Gary at Futureshop for his advice. Service from Futureshop was excellent, with next-day delivery.

Easy Upgrade

I already owned a pair of blue and black fuses, so I decided to try the next one up in the range. As I hoped and expected, the yellow fuse provides an excellent uplift on my system.

The sound is significantly more detailed and relaxed. The soundstage is bigger and individual elements are more defined, almost like an amplifier upgrade. I will order another soon to try in my NAS drive.

The black fuse is a very good upgrade and excellent value, the blue is better, but the yellow is a significant step up on both (as you would expect). In hi-fi terms, they are all a bit of a bargain.

I can tell you that you need to have the best fuse upstream of lower models. If you have a mains conditioner with multiple outlets, you can share the benefits.

Very System Dependent. Boosts the Lower End and Reduces Midrange.

Recommended if you need deeper bass that is tight and fast.

I tried it in the preamp power cable first for a week, then in the regenerator power cable. In both cases, it significantly boosts the lower frequencies, some mid-range reduction and very good high-frequency extension. It needs at least 7 days to stabilise.

Quite different from other fuses and even the light blue, which was more linear. So not an across-the-board upgrade in my system.

Effortless, Natural and Dynamic. Not Like Other HiFi Fuses.

Having tried many aftermarket fuses over the last few years, I have found this manufacturer's products convey a very natural and effortless presentation. Dynamics are very good too, and at some point, I will move up to the next variant, but I would regard this product as an essential requirement if you want to realise your equipment's potential.

It works very well with moderately priced power cords. I would say that this fuse in a moderate power cord will yield better results than fitting a moderately priced fuse in an expensive power cord. It's fundamental to getting the best from your existing equipment.

Massive improvement all around

I wouldn't describe myself as an audiophile, but this product has been a revelation.

Fitted to my trusty VT233 with quad slots, it has produced deeper, darker colours and a more buttery, dare I say caramel-like, flavour to everything I put in it.

Yet, despite the added punch at high settings, it also proved able to perform on the low setting giving subtle gradations of light and dark.

Excellent Easy UK Upgrade

I bought two yellows and used them on my Wireworld Matrix 2 extension block and my homemade Furutech mains cables for the blocks.

This gave my whole system n audible and obvious upgrade to the sound Really cheap improvement when you consider just how good the change is. If you use extension leads, you can get a massive difference on all your kit by just changing the fuse in the extension block leads.

Replaced the blue for the yellow in my AQ Monsoon feeding the Tsakiridis amplifier. Without question, this is better than the blue, stronger, more well-defined images. The amplifier sounds like it is delivering more current.
