AudioQuest's engineering, from solid-core conductors to DBS
Bill Low started AudioQuest in 1980 selling cable out of the boot of a car, and forty five years later the company still rests on the same set of engineering positions. They have been unusually consistent about them, which is rare in a field where fashion moves quickly.
The first is solid-core conductors rather than stranded. Stranded cable has thousands of tiny contact points between strands, and AudioQuest's view is that current moving between them is a source of distortion. Solid core removes the problem at the cost of flexibility, which is why an AudioQuest cable feels stiffer than most.
The second is metal purity and surface quality. Long-Grain Copper, Perfect-Surface Copper and Perfect-Surface Silver are AudioQuest's own conductor grades, and moving up the range is largely a matter of moving through them.
The third is the Dielectric-Bias System. A small battery pack maintains a charge on the insulation so it is not being asked to form and collapse a field along with the music signal. It is AudioQuest's answer to a problem most cable makers address by changing insulation material instead.
AudioQuest also make the DragonFly DACs, the NightHawk and NightOwl headphones, and a well-regarded set of AV care products. We have stocked them since 2010.

AudioQuest name their ranges by cable type rather than running one ladder across the catalogue, so the speaker cable equivalent of a Cinnamon HDMI is not called Cinnamon. The metals run through the digital cables, Rocket and Folk Heroes cover speaker cable, and Bridges, Falls and Rivers cover analogue interconnects. Mythical Creatures is the only naming that runs across every type.
