Block or conditioner? The difference explained
A power block is a distribution point. It takes one feed from the wall and provides several sockets, using better internal wiring and connectors than a domestic extension lead, and it puts every component on a common earth reference. It does not filter.
A conditioner adds filtering, and sometimes surge protection, isolation transformers or full regeneration. The filtering removes high frequency mains noise, which typically lowers the noise floor and can improve stereo imaging. The trade off is that filtering in series with a power amplifier can restrict current on dynamic peaks and leave the system sounding flat.
The common arrangement solves both problems: filtered outlets for sources and digital equipment, and an unfiltered or high current outlet for the power amplifier. Many units are built exactly that way. Count the components you need to plug in, note which of them are amplifiers, and check the socket type your mains cables use.
