iFi's new ultra-low noise AC/DC power supply has been optimised to take advantage of new knowledge, components and tech in the world of super high-frequency power supply design.
The iPower X uses Active Noise Cancellation II to cancel all incoming EMI or RFI noise. This is the same tech as in active noise-cancelling headphones! Imagine how well these block out cabin noise on a plane compared to regular headphones? This is what the iPower X does to your power supply.
Improved capacitance
As usual with iFi, every new design means not only improving how it looks on the outside but more importantly, how it functions on the inside. The input capacitance is now 50% larger and the output capacitance is 150% larger when compared to the original iPower. In practical terms, this gives you more filtration, improved dynamics and unsurpassed sound quality.
Crème de la crème components
iFi is using the latest solid organic capacitors for better suppression of high-frequency noise. And the leakage capacitance is some 20x lower than your normal SMPS! In a nutshell, there is no escape for unwanted noise! All in all, the iPower X will give you 20% more power than the original iFi iPower and increased amperage which means it can work with more equipment than ever before.

The iFi iPower X is consistently praised for delivering noticeable audio improvements across multiple applications—DACs, headphone amplifiers, network switches, routers, and streaming devices. Customers report clearer sound, tighter bass, improved soundstage, reduced background noise, and enhanced dynamics. Several reviewers note the unit requires 100+ hours of run-in time to reach full performance. Build quality is described as excellent and durable. One reviewer expressed skepticism about subtle improvements and placebo effects, though still detected minor benefits like cleaner bass. Retailer service receives frequent commendation for fast shipping and responsiveness. One defective unit was received but promptly replaced. The background became less noisy. The bass became tighter. I got more clarity at the top end, and voices became clearer. You have to give it about 100 hours of continuous running for it to show its TRUE character.
The audiophile mains extension (without filter) was upgraded to a better one and I introduced audiophile power supplies for both the modem and router.
The iFi Audio X DC Power Supply is for my Sky Broadband Hub (in modem only mode).
The Sky Stream TV picture quality is now even better with more definition, lovely deep colours & it is much more 3 dimensional. The sound quality is better too being more dynamic and much closer to Bluray quality. This was especially noticed on a 5.1 Netflix film.
Yes, the overall solution cost a bit of money but I wouldn't want to go back.
The item is well designed and constructed and I suspect will live as long as any component. Through active listening, I am struggling to detect any detail improvement or enhanced sound stage, but I do have a sense that the base is a little cleaner and better controlled. I have also noticed fewer Tidal drop-outs. Finally I used the unit to drive my modem but couldn't detect any differences, however, when going back to the original SMPS "something" did seem to be missing in my music. Whilst I can't rule out the placebo effect, I'm sure this device is doing something positive, but it's very subtle in my system. Given how much money we can spend on our hobby, I'm happy to say it's a low-risk gamble for fans of tweakery.
When funds allow, I may add to my modem/router but will continue my assessment in the following weeks.
