AudioQuest NRG-Z3 Mains Power Cable
Following on from the success of the Storm Series NRG power cables (Thunder, Tornado, Hurricane & Dragon), AudioQuest have utilised trickle down techniques to create a new series of affordable, entry level NRG power cables. Featuring the excellent Noise-Dissipation technology employed in the Storm Series, this new range of NRG-Y and NRG-Z cables outperform their old NRG-X and NRG-1/1.5/2 counterparts by a landslide. The NRG-Z3 replaces the NRG-2 however it outperforms previous higher models.
Ideal for video displays, powered speakers, and all electronics, NRG-Z3 (3-pole) cables use direction-controlled Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) conductors in a Semi-Solid Concentric arrangement in which the individual copper strands are packed more tightly and never change position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces strand interaction distortion. The astonishingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface conductors minimize distortion caused by grain boundaries and surface discontinuities that exist in any metal conductor. In addition, NRG-Z3's direction-controlled silver-plated shield conductors efficiently drain RF noise to ground.

Zero Characteristic Impedance for Uncompressed Current Transfer
A non-technical analogy for this might be that if you drop a coin in a tube with shampoo in it, no matter how wide (low resistance) that tube, the shampoo (the Characteristic Impedance) is going to get in the way (compromise current transients). Eliminating Characteristic Impedance (Zero means No in this application) is like having only air in the tube, as close to a vacuum as possible. Whether the amp is running at less than a watt or is fully maxed out, the unrestricted transients are visceral — something the whole body understands, no words required.
Semi-Solid Concentric Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) Conductors
NRG-Z2 and NRG-Z3 cables take a step further and use Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC in Z3, PSC+ in Z2), in a 7-strand SemiSolid Concentric conductor arrangement. The astonishingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface processed conductors minimize distortion caused by grain boundaries and surface discontinuities which exist in any metal conductor
Direction-Controlled Conductors & Silver-Plated Shield Drains
All drawn metal has a non-symmetrical, and therefore directional, grain structure. AudioQuest controls the resulting RF impedance variation so that noise drains away from where it will cause distortion. The Silver-Plated shield drains efficiently remove RF noise from the line and neutral shields via the wall plug’s “ground” pin – which is why even the 2-Pole “2” models have an unexpected ground pin.
Ground-Noise Dissipation Technology
As with the Storm Series AC cables, Z3 includes AudioQuest’s Ground Noise-Dissipation Technology. AC Ground wires over protection from current-wiring faults, but they also act as antennas, picking up radio frequency (RF) noise, which bypasses component power supplies and is typically coupled directly into a system’s most sensitive audio or video circuits.
AudioQuest's Ground-Noise Dissipation System employs a commonmode phase-canceling array that yields unprecedented levels of noise dissipation and reduction across the widest bandwidth (range) of radio frequencies – dramatically lowering distortion in the attached electronics.

Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system

The AudioQuest NRG Z3 power cable receives consistent praise for delivering audible sonic improvements across various audio components, including amplifiers, DACs, streamers, and CD players. Customers report significant gains in noise floor reduction, detail retrieval, soundstage clarity, and bass definition, often comparing it favorably to the lower-tier NRG Y3 model and noting the value proposition justifies the cost. Build quality is described as excellent with superior copper and insulation. The AudioQuest NRG Z3 offers the same PSC Copper and noise reduction as Monsoon but with a more slender conductor cross-section, better suited to source components. They offer an immediate uplift in performance and significantly lower the noise floor.
Fabulous cables at a very good price
I know some people may think it is a waste of money, but if you have another cable costing nearly 3 times as much in the system, it makes a lot of sense. The sound I hear through the cable is nothing short of spectacular; the bass sounds well-defined even without using the subwoofer, and I can only attribute this to the fuse upgrade. I do not get the same sound with similar cables without the fuse upgrade.

The cable is stiff, and I wish Audioquest would consider half a meter length, as 2 meters would be too long for most cases.
A great price-to-performance ratio within the Audioquest lineup! While the NRG Z3 uses better copper than the NRG Y3 and likely has more insulation, it is also thicker and stiffer.
Therefore, you may want to leave more space at the back of your component while using this cable.
With Z3, it was instantly better compared to the Merlin cable. I didn't expect too much, as it is for the power supply of my Innuos music streamer. I am writing this review after about 10 days of playing(I do play music a lot and leave it on 24/7). For some reason, now it feels louder than when I first plugged it in; I don't have to turn up the volume due to better detail. It sounds more intimate, with details projected in a way that is easy to process, and the texture is better.
If it was much cheaper, I would buy Z3 for all my components. Z3 like any audio quest is stiff, so do make sure you have the right measurement, as it doesn't bend well or bend the angle you want, it can be frustrating if it isn't a tight fit to your components(Amps, electronics etc) Ultimately I think Monsoon is the sweet spot but it is a serious stiff cable is a literal sense, but Z3 is truly decent.
I imagine it will improve with more hours on it, but I'm happy so far.
Incredibly well made and makes a welcome improvement to the sound of my DAC.
