AudioQuest Monsoon Mains Power Cable
Limited stock, limited time — your chance to own a high-performance cable at a special price. Available in 1m, 2m, and 3m; the 2m comes unboxed for extra savings.
Imagine you're drawing water from a tap the size of a pencil. The amount of water drawn will be limited to that of the tap's size. Now imagine the tap is the size of a water bottle. You will sustain considerably more water than previously. The same concept applies to power cables when comparing the current flow between a standard thin power cable and the AudioQuest Monsoon Power Cable.
The Monsoon Power Cable's performance resembles that of its name. With an impressive 18mm outside diameter, the Monsoon Power Cable has a tremendous capacity for current flow. This makes it perfect for providing extensive current to your equipment for increased dynamics and detail.
When connected to our power amplifier here at Future Shop, we personally noticed an increase in dynamic range with a lower noise floor. Connected to our CD player, we noticed an improvement in the clarity of sound reproduction.
All in all, the AudioQuest Monsoon Power Cable is perfect for those looking to improve their listening experience with a wider dynamic range, lowered noise floor, and greater clarity.
Features
- Zero Characteristic Impedance Enables Uncompressed Current Transfer
- Patented Ground Noise-Dissipation and Direction-Controlled Metal Prevent Transient Intermodulation (TIM) Distortion
- True-Concentric Conductors Minimize Strand-Interaction and Magnetic Confusion
- Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Minimizes Grain-Junction Discontinuities
Zero Characteristic Impedance Enables Uncompressed Current Transfer
A non-technical analogy for this might be that if you drop a coin in a tube with shampoo in it, no matter how wide (low resistance) that tube, the shampoo (the Characteristic Impedance) is going to get in the way (compromise current transients). Eliminating Characteristic Impedance (Zero means No in this application) is like having only air in the tube, as close to a vacuum as possible. Whether the amp is running at less than a watt or is fully maxed out, the unrestricted transients are visceral — something the whole body understands, no words required.
Patented Ground Noise-Dissipation and Direction-Controlled Conductors
AC noise is present at the utility source and is then supplemented by radio, cellular, etc., noise that is picked up by the AC power cord. This noise is then coupled to the components power supplies and to circuit ground, which in turn creates distortion and low-level signal masking.
AudioQuest's patented Ground Noise-Dissipation dramatically reduces radio frequency interference (RFI) linearly across an extremely wide range of frequencies, yielding an unprecedented reduction in Transient Intermodulation (TIM) distortion. You hear natural sound with an artificial bite.
On top of this, all drawn metal strands or conductors have a non-symmetrical, and therefore directional, grain structure. AudioQuest controls the resulting small RF-impedance variation so that noise is drained away from where it will cause distortion.
High-Purity True-Concentric Conductors
With only Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) on the outside, Monsoons conductors are essentially all PSC+ even though the conductor core is Long-Grain Copper (LGC). Both superior metal and conductor geometry greatly reduce ear-fatiguing Transient Intermodulation (TIM) Distortion.
Uncompressed High-Current Transfer
While many AC power cables feature low DC resistance in order to accommodate the demand for high current, a cable's characteristic impedance is also crucial for optimal performance.
Unlike most AC cables that constrict or compress an audio-provoked transient, AudioQuest AC cables combine low DC resistance and Zero characteristic impedance in order to deliver uncompressed high current transients on demand.
Optional Fuse Upgrade
As an optional extra, Future Shop will upgrade the built-in fuse to the excellent Blue 13A fuse from Synergistic Research (SR). The SR Blue fuse is an excellent upgrade choice due to the materials used which offer an increase in resolution and realism over standard fuses. Some of the improvements you may hear include; a quieter noise-floor, greater dynamics, a more relaxed sound and detailed musicality.
Contact Enhancer Option
To ensure the best possible connection between your system, Future Shop recommends the DeoxIT Gold G-Series contact enhancer.
DeoxIT Gold is carefully applied to the plug contacts of your cable and is a unique conditioning solution designed to improve conductivity and provide long-lasting protection on gold, base metals and other precious metal contacts and connections. DeoxIT Gold penetrates plated surfaces, molecularly bonding to the base metals to seal and protect both surfaces.
The benefits of applying DeoxIT gold are:
- Improved Conductivity
- Maintained optimum signal quality
- Reduced wear & abrasion
- Prevents fretting/dendrite corrosion
- Forms a protective anti-tarnishing coating
- Stabilises connections between similar and dissimilar metals
- Reduces arcing, RFI and intermittent connections
Please select this option from the above ‘Contact Enhancer’ drop-down menu and our engineers will apply the contact solution to your cable connectors prior to shipping.

About AudioQuest
AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for many years. AudioQuest is sold in several hundred outlets in the US and in over sixty countries. Bill Lowe (Founder) is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don’t want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.
About AudioQuest
Californian cable maker covering analogue, digital, speaker and power cables, with patented conductor and dielectric designs.
AudioQuest is based in Irvine, California, and makes cables for nearly every connection in a system: analogue interconnects, USB, HDMI and Ethernet, speaker cables and AC power cables. Its designs come back to four ideas: solid conductors, directionality, noise dissipation and the quality of the metal.

Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system
AudioQuest also makes AC power cables, Niagara and PowerQuest power conditioners and DragonFly DACs alongside its analogue, digital and speaker cables. If you are building or upgrading a system, that means every cable in the chain, and the power feeding it, can come from one design approach.
Why we stock AudioQuest
We took AudioQuest on for HDMI. When the 1.4 spec arrived in 2009 they were the first supplier who could actually get the cables to us, at a point when almost nobody could. The power cables turned out to be just as good, and they are now a bigger part of what we sell than the HDMI ever was.

Customers consistently praise the AudioQuest Monsoon for delivering tangible sonic improvements including enhanced soundstage, dynamics, bass authority, and low-level detail retrieval across audio and AV systems. Build quality is universally commended as sturdy and well-made, though the cable's thickness and stiffness create routing difficulties around equipment. Most reviewers report immediate improvements, though some note subtle benefits emerge over time and with burn-in. Pricing receives mixed reactions, with strong endorsement at discounted rates (£300–£350) but hesitation closer to full retail (£400+). Several reviewers recommend pairing with power conditioners and upgrading the fuse for optimal performance. Future Shop's customer service is highlighted positively. Recurring complaints centre on the cable's rigidity making installation challenging.
Once you have plugged them in, you will be rewarded with improved dynamics and great illumination of background details. I have one on my power conditioner and one on my amplifier, and they have both brought about worthwhile changes.
Highly recommended; plus, they are on offer with a good discount at the time of writing.
Was looking to improve the current delivery to the system as a whole, so opted for the AudioQuest Monsoon as it was cheaper than the Entry-level Shunyata offering and had been very well reviewed elsewhere.
It arrived very quickly and was promptly installed between the mains supply and the Shunyata Venom on a 1m C19 version.
The improvement was immediate: more low-level detail and better timing and soundstage, but the big takeaway was the hugely improved dynamic uplift and effortlessness of the sound.
I was so impressed, I ordered a second one to go from Venom to my ARC power amp. Again, similar gains… more subtle this time but still profoundly satisfying.
These cables are subject to a discount of £80 at the time of writing; don’t dilly-dally. If you’re in the market for a seriously good mains upgrade, don’t delay
This cable was an upgrade from a Z3, which I still consider a very good cable.
The cable comes in the usual high quality Audioquest packaging and the cable itself feels very well made. It is sturdy and a lot thicker than the NRG Y3 cable; however, the downside is that the cable is difficult to route around equipment.
I didn't go with any burn-in option; I quite enjoy listening to the subtle changes burn-in makes. Right from the off, the cable was not harsh so I don't think burn in is strickly necessary with this cable, when I got the NRG Y3 it was a little thin sounding to begin with but not the Monsoon. As I had hoped, the sound stage was larger, and sybilance control was similar to the NRG Y3. Bass was fuller, had more authority and I had to turn down my Rel sub by 3 clicks. I always find it remarkable how power cables can make such a difference.
I paid just over £300 for a 1-metre version in a sale Futureshop was running at the time, and I recommend this cable at that price. Closer to £400 is a little harder to swallow; however, I think I would still go for another Monsoon if I were looking to upgrade any of my other NRG Y3 cables that power my system.
I always gets excellent service from the Future Shop staff.
