The AudioQuest PowerQuest 505 is a serious mains conditioning and surge protection unit designed to clean up the AC supply reaching both amplification and source components, with dedicated outlet groups tailored to each task. Three High-Current outlets handle power amplifiers, subwoofers, and receivers, while four Ultra-Linear Filtered outlets serve source components such as streamers, DACs, and digital processors. The filtering on the source outlets targets differential and common-mode noise across a wide frequency range from 30kHz up to 1GHz, removing the high-frequency contamination that digital equipment both generates and is susceptible to, without the current compression that poorly designed conditioners can impose on amplifiers.

Surge protection on the PowerQuest 505 is non-sacrificial, meaning the protection circuitry is designed to withstand repeated strikes at the maximum levels that can pass through a building's AC panel, rated at 6000V and 3000A, without degrading over time. An Extreme Voltage Shutdown circuit monitors incoming voltage and disconnects the unit in under 0.25 seconds if it exceeds 140VAC, resetting automatically once the supply returns to a safe level. The included PQ-715 detachable power cable is a meaningful part of the package rather than an afterthought: it uses Semi-Solid Long-Grain Copper conductors with direction-controlled geometry, ZERO-Tech for uncompressed current transfer, and RF/ND-Tech to reduce induced RF noise before it reaches the conditioner itself.
