Essenza by Bassocontinuo

Bassocontinuo engineering at an entry-level price

Bassocontinuo build reference equipment racks in Bergamo, northern Italy, at prices that put them alongside the components they hold. Essenza is the sub-brand that answers the obvious question: what does that engineering look like further down the range?

The construction principles carry over. High-density fibreboard shelves on a black-coated solid steel structure, decoupling designed into the frame rather than added underneath as an afterthought, and 40kg rated per shelf, which covers most power amplifiers.

The approach is modular. The Proton tower comes as two or three shelves and takes further shelves later, so the rack grows with the system rather than being replaced by it. The Quark is a standalone amplifier stand finished to match, for the component that will not go on a rack.

The finish is the other thing that carries over. These are pieces of furniture as much as supports, and they sit in a living room without looking like equipment. Worth planning shelf heights around your tallest component before ordering, since the spacing between levels is set by the design.
