64 Audio U12t Universal In-Ear Monitors
The 64 Audio U12t is a universal-fit in-ear monitor built around twelve balanced armature drivers per side: one tia high driver, one high-mid, six mids and four lows. 64 Audio positions it as the universal counterpart to its custom A12t. Reviewers pick out a very clean timbre, good imaging and bass with more authority than balanced armature designs usually manage.
The tia driver and single-bore design dispense with the tubes normally fitted in front of balanced armature drivers, which 64 Audio says reduces resonance and distortion. The Apex vent relieves pressure in the ear canal while keeping isolation between 10 and 20 dB, depending on the module fitted, so long sessions are more comfortable. According to 64 Audio, it also gives a more realistic soundstage.
Linear Impedance Design is a circuit that corrects the uneven electrical resistance of a multi-driver set. Phones, portable DAC/amps and DAPs all have different output impedances, and that difference would otherwise shift the frequency response. LID is there to keep the tuning consistent from one source to the next. Two cables are included, 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced, so the U12t is ready for either kind of output.
Here is what 64 Audio says about the U12t
U12t does it all, delivering immersive sound and impeccable spatial imaging. Its articulate highs extend beautifully with a warm and engaging low-end response - just like its custom counterpart, the A12t.
Offering reference-level detail, this IEM has become one of the most highly regarded and sought after audiophile UIEMs. Each ergonomic shell is machined out of a solid piece of aluminum and finished with an electroformed stainless steel faceplate chip.
Features
- 12 drivers per side: 1 tia High Driver, 1 High-Mid Driver, 6 Mid Drivers and 4 Low Drivers
- Tubeless In-Ear Audio (tia): tia driver and tia single-bore design
- Air Pressure Exchange (Apex): patented vent that releases air pressure in a sealed ear canal while retaining standard IEM levels of isolation
- Linear Impedance Design (LID): patented circuit that corrects the non-linear electrical resistance of the multiple driver-sets for a consistent sound across sources
- Shell: T6061 aluminum shell with electroformed stainless steel faceplate chip
- Pearl Premium Cable: supplied as standard, including both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced
Tubeless In-Ear Audio (tia)
Tubeless In-Ear Audio (tia) is a patented IEM design methodology that aims to reduce unwanted resonance and distortion for a transparent and lifelike sound signature. The tia system is comprised of three major elements: open balanced armature tia drivers, the tia single-bore design, and tia acoustic chambers. U12t features two major elements of the tia system: the tia driver and the tia single-bore design.
Air Pressure Exchange (Apex)
Air Pressure Exchange (Apex) is a patented vent that releases air pressure in a sealed ear canal all while retaining standard IEM levels of isolation; enabling musicians and music enthusiasts to listen more comfortably for longer. This venting alleviates listener fatigue and allows for a much more realistic soundstage. Apex comes in three module variations for U12t: mX, m15 and m20.
Linear Impedance Design (LID)
Linear Impedance Design (LID) is a patented circuit that corrects the non-linear electrical resistance of the multiple driver-sets comprising this 12 driver IEM. Varying source amplifier output impedance in devices like smartphones, body packs, DAC/amps, and DAPs typically results in varying frequency response across them, depending on the increase in resistance. Restoring proper interaction with the source and preserving the desired sound signature enables a consistent reliable sound.
Pearl Premium Cable
U12t is the first UIEM that will come standard with our Pearl Premium Cable including both 3.5mm single-ended and one balanced 4.4mm.

About 64 Audio
Maker of custom and universal in-ear monitors, known for its tia drivers and Apex air pressure venting.
64 Audio makes in-ear monitors in two formats: universal-fit models you can use straight away, and custom models built to the shape of your ears. The company is American, and its catalogue runs from more accessible universals up to multi-driver flagships. You can choose by budget, fit preference and the way you listen.

The tia design uses an open driver layout
tia stands for Tubeless In-Ear Audio. 64 Audio says the design pairs open balanced armature drivers with a single large bore and tuned chambers, aimed at a wider soundstage and a smooth response. Not every model uses it, so check the product page for the one you are considering.
Apex vents pressure and sets isolation
Apex stands for air pressure exchange. 64 Audio says the vent relieves pressure in the ear canal to reduce listening fatigue. Replaceable isolation modules let you choose how much outside noise reaches you: the m20 module cuts 20dB, the m15 cuts 15dB and the mX cuts 10dB.
Custom and universal ranges sit side by side
The catalogue is divided into universal and custom ranges. Custom models are made from a digital scan of your ear and a 3D-printed shell, a process 64 Audio calls 3D-Fit. The company also names LID, short for linear impedance design, as a technology used across its multi-driver models.
