The tonal balance seems very neutral, with trebles, especially sweet and clean. Each combination I tried showed levels of performance and musicality I had not thought possible.
Taking the device out, everything felt congested and veiled in comparison. What was also interesting was using an old (and not much liked) Fiio M9; it still worked some magic without losing the essential character of the player. It would be fascinating to try it on a range of DAPs from low to high, etc.
Downsides; well, it is a heavy slab that will hardly make a pocketable combination with many other devices. I'd also like a battery level indicator-although it seems to last a very good while. A sleeve case and 4.4mm connector included wouldn't hurt AK either, but overall it is a tremendous value upgrade that lifted every variation I tried to a new level.
