Atlas EOS Superior 4.0em Mains Power Cable
The Atlas EOS Superior 4.0em is the top power cable in Atlas's Eos range, and the 4.0 refers to its conductors: high-purity, tin-plated OFC with a 4mm² cross-section, rated by Atlas at 20A. That makes it a cable for equipment that draws real current, such as power amplifiers, as well as for sources and streamers.
Its job is to stop noise travelling into your electronics along the mains lead. Atlas wrap the conductors in a multi-layer screen of carbon-loaded material and OFC, and connect that screen with their dual-drain system, so it is never twisted or stressed when the plugs are fitted and the shielding stays complete all the way round the cable. The conductors, the dielectric and the plugs are also damped against vibration. The aim is a lower noise floor, so there is less to mask fine detail, timing and the space around instruments.
Atlas designed it as part of their Eos power system, alongside the Eos Modular distribution blocks, and it is finished in Titanium fabric with a 21mm outside diameter. Choose a UK 13A, EU Schuko or US Nema plug at the wall end and an IEC C15 or C19 connector at the equipment end, in 1m, 1.5m, 2m, 3m or 5m. Atlas also list the cable with an IEC C13 connector, which is not one of the options here. Each cable arrives boxed with a cleaning cloth, cotton gloves and a USB stick, and is backed by Atlas's 5 year guarantee.
What Atlas say about the Eos Superior 4.0em
It’s widely accepted that the quality of mains power can substantially affect the performance of hi-fi & home cinema systems, and most definitely not in a good way.
The cleanest possible, highest-quality power supply is an absolute requisite to have any hope of reliably hearing the full performance potential of your system. Compromises in power distribution and cabling will limit both absolute sound quality and the consistency of the results. This is just as true for digital/streaming components as for sources and amplifiers.
Atlas has been at the forefront of battling noise, protecting against RF (RadioFrequency) and EM (ElectroMagnetic) interference. in the design of pretty much everything we make for a considerable length of time.
Our cables frequently feature more sophisticated levels of shielding and at comparatively lower price points than many others, and our Grun Coherent Ground System is a well-established leader in its field. As one expansive US review concluded, “The Grun system has an edge because it’s such a holistic approach… Separately, these products all work. Together they are formidable.”
Power blocks and cables are the basic building blocks; ours are designed to fully complement each other, allowing a consistent, logical approach to combinations and a clear upgrade path as your system evolves.
At the very top of our evolutionary chain is the superb Eos Superior 4.0em power cable, the pinnacle of our power cable design expertise; a low-contact resistance cable with high-current capability and an impeccable noise-free performance pedigree.
A new multi-layer carbon-loaded/OFC shielding configuration with dual-drain distortion-free screen system encases high-purity high current capacity 4mm² OFC conductors. Particular attention has been paid not only to the electrical design but also to addressing the harmful effects of unwanted vibration. Conductors, their enclosing high-efficiency dielectric and the terminating connections themselves benefit from precisely-targetted damping.
We've moved both build quality and aesthetics onto another level, the Eos Superior 4.0em looks stunning in its default Titanium fabric finish and feels superb in the hand. Power and precision.
Connect the cable. The result might surprise you. You know the equipment connected via an Eos Superior em is switched on, because you can see the power indicator is illuminated. But there's a sense of nothing being there. Silence.
Press ‘Play.’ Lower the tonearm. Select a stream. Whatever your preference when it comes to listening to your favourite music, music is all you'll be hearing. In the absence of the signal-modulating 'noise' you now realise was previously there all along, the dynamic range will be greater, soundstage imaging more precise. Music has weight, presence, tonal accuracy and subtleties in timing and inflection become more apparent.
Congratulations. Your system now sounds Superior.
Eos Modular Power Management System
The importance of clean power. We live in an extremely polluted environment in electrical terms. Mobile phones, computers, appliances and even our hifi/AV systems themselves all contribute to RFI (radio frequency interference) and EMI (electromagnetic interference). These all create ‘noise’ which adversely affects the performance of your equipment. Your equipment itself and your household wiring typically also add to the problem.
Ensuring a clean power supply is a fundamental step in removing noise and optimising performance, which is why we’ve created the Eos Modular Power Management System, comprising a mains block offering either unfiltered or a combination of filtered/unfiltered sockets (for different equipment types) and a series of power cables.
Eos is the foundation of our approach to power: complementary distribution blocks and mains cables, each designed to minimise the harmful ingress of extraneous noise into the audio chain. Eos Modular power blocks are the ideal complement to our Grun Coherent Ground System.
Dual Drain Screen
We have invested in machinery to quickly and efficiently perform a number of the key stages in our manufacturing process.
But working with our dual-drain system is one of those instances where there’s no substitute for the ‘hands-on’ experience of a skilled operator.
Normally screened cables suffer from screen distortion when they are prepared for production. (If you’ve ever wired a plug or connector which uses a screened cable, you've done this yourself, cutting back and probably twisting the screening braid for termination). This distortion of the screen has a measurable impact, effectively changing the impedance and therefore the performance of the cable.
Our ‘dd’ configuration is based on a simplified version of the techniques originally developed for our then top-of-the-range Mavros and Asimi interconnects. Twin symmetrical drain wires (each attached to 180° segments of the plug) are inserted between a 100% copper/Mylar™ foil and screen.
The unique dd system connects the screen effectively to the cable return/plug interface, meaning the cable can be terminated without distorting, twisting or mechanically stressing the precision-laid screen. The benefits are in maintaining a consistent low impedance load to the plug, and a total 360° screening against noise and signal loss caused by RFI (Radio Frequency Interference).

About Atlas Cables
Scottish cable maker that designs and builds its own conductors, connectors and cables rather than assembling bought-in parts.
Atlas researches, designs and produces its cables in Scotland, with a handful of exceptions. Many cable brands assemble off-the-shelf components, but Atlas specifies the conductors, insulation and terminations itself and tests the result in its own listening room. It offers a five-year guarantee on its cables.

The plugs are Atlas designs too
Atlas designs its own RCA plugs. The Achromatic and Ultra RCAs are built for low mass and high bandwidth, and the newer Metik connectors were developed for personal audio. Designing the connectors in house means Atlas is not limited to what an outside supplier already sells.
Three performance levels, with named ranges in each
The catalogue is arranged in three performance levels. Upgrade covers Element and Equator, Aspire covers Hyper and Ailsa, and High End covers Mavros, Arran, Eos and Zeno. You can choose the level that suits the rest of your system, then move up later without changing brand.
Custom options and a repair service
Atlas lists luxe and speaker termination options, so you can specify a cable to suit the equipment at each end. It also repairs, customises and upgrades its cables through a dedicated service, which means you can bring an older cable up to date instead of replacing it.
Why we stock Atlas
Atlas run pure copper conductors through most of the range rather than silver or silver plating. That gives a warmer, more forgiving balance than the silver-plated cables we sell. If your system is already leaning bright, Atlas is usually where we point you first. Hand-built in Scotland, and we have sold them since 2008.

If applicable, the customer will be liable for the taxes at the local tax rate, duty on the import and the brokerage service fee. This may need to be paid in advance to your local Customs & Excise office or the delivery company before your order can be delivered.
We offer the following shipping services:
- Royal Mail First Class International Airmail Services - Items are usually delivered within 7 to 10 working days
- Royal Mail Standard International Mail Services - Items are usually delivered within 15 working days
- DHL Express International - Items are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours. DHL orders must be received by 3:30pm for next day service to most destinations in Europe
- Federal Express International Priority - Items are usually delivered within 48 hours. FedEx orders must be received by 3.00pm in order to ship items the same day, subject to stock availability
- Where the actual weight of the package significantly exceeds the shipping cost charged on orders, we may write to you for an additional shipping charge. For larger orders, items may be shipped in multiple packets at our discretion
We reserve the right to change your shipping method without notification if you select a method that we cannot use for your shipment (for instance, we cannot ship via postal services for items over 2 Kg to International destinations). If we need to change your shipping method, we will choose the least expensive shipping method for your order.
