Atlas Mavros Transpose Speaker Gold 4-4 Grun - Factory Terminated
The Atlas Mavros Transpose Speaker Gold 4-4 Grun is the bi-wire version of the latest Mavros, the OCC copper speaker cable in Atlas's High End range. This 4-4 configuration has four connectors at each end, so it can run from an amplifier with two sets of outputs, or a bi-amped pair, to loudspeakers with separate bass and treble terminals. In the bi-wire build, a solid OCC conductor carries the mid and treble while stranded OCC conductors take the bass, with the same 2mm² total as the previous Mavros.
Atlas wrap the conductors in their microporous PTFE and now add a thin polyethylene liner, which keeps the geometry concentric during manufacture, then screen the cable with foil and braid using their Dual Drain arrangement. The cable is also Grun-enabled: a separate lead lets you connect the screen to a clean ground through the supplied spade tag adapters, an Eos Modular power block or a Grun mains adapter, lowering the noise floor without changing the tonal balance.
Termination uses the Transpose modular system. The connector bodies are cold-welded on in Atlas's factory and take threaded inserts, so you can move between Z-plugs, spades and expanding 4mm plugs later. Choose the plugs for each end from the options above. This listing is for a single cable, so please enter a quantity of 2 for a stereo pair.
What Atlas say about the Mavros Transpose Speaker Gold 4-4 Grun
In pursuit of ever-higher levels of performance, we‘ve revised our acclaimed Mavros speaker cable.
Mavros has been a mainstay of our product lineup for some considerable length of time and has proven to be a reliably successful choice for an extremely wide range of equipment.
Of course, given our policy of continuous improvement, it’s been progressively refined and finessed over the years, and this latest-generation Mavros offers substantial gains in sound quality.
The new design takes some cues from our remarkable Arran Speaker cable; in other areas it‘s a result of investigating how we could improve both the efficiency and overall build quality of the cable, both factors which we know yield audible benefits.
Firstly, the conductor topology has been refined; uniquely designed to be optimised for single wire, bi-wire and bi-amping use, we’ve retained its combination of solid and stranded cores (same overall 2mm² as its predecessor) but in a slightly different configuration. (In the Bi-wire version, a single solid conductor is allocated to HF/Mid use whereas the stranded conductors are allocated to LF).
Bi-wire cables can offer performance benefits when the two halves of the loudspeaker's crossover are electrically ‘separated’ to allow bi-wiring (and bi-amping, if so desired). Available in 2–4 and 4–4 connector configurations.
Next, a revision of the dielectric, with our customary, and exclusive, microporous PTFE composition, but now with improvements to geometric stability. Wrapped microporous PTFE has huge benefits in terms of open, natural and accurate sound, however increasing the amount to maintain the desired electrical parameters during manufacturing can affect the cable geometry, becoming non-concentric. The solution is to apply a thin but strong Polyethylene liner around the microporous PTFE during the manufacturing process.
Lastly, the precision of the final assembly; we’ve invested heavily in optimising our production process for consistency and efficiency, and it shows. The fit, finish and ‘feel’ of the cable in your hand are superb. Every cable is hand-made by a skilled Atlas technician, each of whom takes a great deal of pride in their work. An included signed certificate of authenticity identifies the person who built your cable.
This cable is fitted as standard with the Transpose Modular Termination System, which allows easy switching between Z (Gold or Silver 4mm Z-plug), S (Gold or Silver OCC spade) or E (Expanding plug versions as your requirements change. Expanding 4mm plugs are the standard configuration, please specify at time of purchase if you require an alternative connector. Alternative connector kits are available from your Atlas dealer.

Transpose Modular Termination System
With our Transpose Modular Termination System, the cable is factory-terminated with cold-weld connectors which accept a range of threaded inserts (the actual connector part of the plug). This gives the user the option to change from, for example, expanding 4mm plugs to spades simply by purchasing a set of Transpose spade adapters.
The construction and finishing of our Transpose connectors is also vital to their performance.
Plug pins and contacts are deep gold or silver-plated* to prevent oxidisation, which affects performance, and visible tarnishing. The priority is to minimise contact resistance, which is critical to consistent performance.
* Silver is a more efficient conductor than gold, but is both more expensive and prone to tarnishing. We silver-plate our Transpose Expanding connectors, and provide a silver polishing cloth for cleaning.
The Superiority of Our Cold-Weld (Crimped) Connections
A soldered connection creates an undesirable material ‘barrier’ in the signal path, as well as potential inconsistencies. Screw terminations can distort or damage the conductor and/or dielectric, resulting in measurable deviations from the intended specification.
In a cold-weld (solder-free) connection, the metal of the connector plug and the wire are squeezed together under a calibrated pressure to form a robust, consistent, air-tight metal to metal contact with no deformation of the cable dielectric. The result is a smooth, uninterrupted signal path which behaves as one continuous entity.
OCC Copper
The Ohno continuous casting method re-heats the extrusion as the molten copper is forced out of the mould and very slowly and gradually draws the grain or crystal down the conductor's length, creating a ‘single crystal structure.’ Actually, because no copper is 100% pure, there will always be a few boundaries produced by impurities. The frequency of boundaries created are quite insignificant. A typical crystal in a copper conductor drawn to 0.3 mm diam. using the OCC process is 125.00 metres long! The benefits are obvious, with almost no crystal boundaries, the audio signal is no longer impeded down the copper wire and more information and detail is delivered faithfully to the receiving equipment.

PTFE Dielectric
PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.
Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).
Microporous PTFE (Teflon™) is a unique, low density dielectric material, phase stable at room temperature, which offers significant performance improvements over solid PTFE (Teflon™) dielectric designs.
The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

Atlas DD (Dual Drain) System
Normally screened cables suffer from screen distortion when they are prepared for production. (If you’ve ever wired a plug or connector which uses a screened cable, you've done this yourself, cutting back and probably twisting the screening braid for termination). This distortion of the screen has a measurable impact, effectively changing the impedance and therefore the performance of the cable.
Our ‘dd’ configuration is based on a simplified version of the techniques originally developed for our then top-of-the-range Mavros and Asimi interconnects. Twin symmetrical drain wires (each attached to 180° segments of the plug) are inserted between a 100% copper/Mylar™ foil and screen.
The unique dd system connects the screen effectively to the cable return/plug interface, meaning the cable can be terminated without distorting, twisting or mechanically stressing the precision-laid screen. The benefits are in maintaining a consistent low impedance load to the plug, and a total 360° screening against noise and signal loss caused by RFI (Radio Frequency Interference).
Grun Coherent Ground System
Speaker cables fitted with our Transpose speaker connectors are Grun-enabled as standard.
One of the biggest obstacles to achieving the performance levels our equipment is capable of is noise. Low levels of RFI (radio frequency) and EMI (electro-magnetic interference) and noise on the signal ground each subtly modulate and degrade the overall noise levels of the system.
Although our cables are all designed to minimise the invasion of external interference, it’s not possible to completely eliminate it.
But the audible benefits of substantially reducing it via our Grun products are considerable.
And the impact of Grun is cumulative. Adding additional Grun-enabled products reduces the impact of unwanted ‘noise’ still further.
Grounding critical components via the Grun system doesn’t alter the tonal balance or character of the system but audibly removes the effect of noise you probably didn’t realise was there.
The result typically reveals a greater level of fine detail, enhanced stereo soundstage and an improved ‘ease’ and naturalness.
Grun-enabled products are supplied with 1:1 or 1:2 adapters and a spade tag adapter for the simplest Grun connection. Additional adapters may be purchased separately.
Grun connections can be made via an Eos Modular power block and/or our Grun mains power adapters.

About Atlas Cables
Atlas Cables, a distinguished company headquartered in Scotland, embodies engineering excellence, showcasing an unwavering commitment to research, development, and quality manufacturing. The company's foundational ethos is rooted in an unyielding love for music, from which stems its innovative approach to designing and crafting audio cables and accessories.
What sets Atlas Cables apart from many other brands, often called 'assemblers,' is their control over the entire creation process. While many competitors settle for assembling products from 'off the shelf' components, Atlas delves deeper, ensuring that each element of their products - from core conductors to insulating materials and terminations - is precisely tailored to meet or exceed performance specifications. This control translates to consistency in assembly and a robust quality control system backed by a five-year guarantee.
Manufacturing primarily in Scotland, a region known for its longstanding tradition of engineering brilliance, Atlas Cables takes pride in building products unique to its brand. Their approach circumvents reliance on pre-existing components and instead focuses on original thinking and total control. A portfolio of cables, plugs, and accessories you'll not find elsewhere is truly unique to Atlas, reflecting a profound connection between engineering excellence and the deep love of music that inspired it all.
About Atlas Cables
Scottish cable maker that designs and builds its own conductors, connectors and cables rather than assembling bought-in parts.
Atlas researches, designs and produces its cables in Scotland, with a handful of exceptions. Many cable brands assemble off-the-shelf components, but Atlas specifies the conductors, insulation and terminations itself and tests the result in its own listening room. It offers a five-year guarantee on its cables.

The plugs are Atlas designs too
Atlas designs its own RCA plugs. The Achromatic and Ultra RCAs are built for low mass and high bandwidth, and the newer Metik connectors were developed for personal audio. Designing the connectors in house means Atlas is not limited to what an outside supplier already sells.
Three performance levels, with named ranges in each
The catalogue is arranged in three performance levels. Upgrade covers Element and Equator, Aspire covers Hyper and Ailsa, and High End covers Mavros, Arran, Eos and Zeno. You can choose the level that suits the rest of your system, then move up later without changing brand.
Custom options and a repair service
Atlas lists luxe and speaker termination options, so you can specify a cable to suit the equipment at each end. It also repairs, customises and upgrades its cables through a dedicated service, which means you can bring an older cable up to date instead of replacing it.
Why we stock Atlas
Atlas run pure copper conductors through most of the range rather than silver or silver plating. That gives a warmer, more forgiving balance than the silver-plated cables we sell. If your system is already leaning bright, Atlas is usually where we point you first. Hand-built in Scotland, and we have sold them since 2008.
New cables (even high-quality ones) benefit from a period of signal conditioning before reaching their optimum performance. The dielectric (insulation) around the conductors needs time to stabilise under the electromagnetic field created by signal flow. Rather than leaving this to you, we run cables on our Nordost Vidar burn-in machine before dispatch, up to the equivalent of 200 hours of use, in a fraction of the time. Your cable arrives performance-ready from the first listen.

Free Premium Cable Burn-In Service: Experience the Power of Nordost VIDAR 2 Machine
We are thrilled to unveil our upgraded cable burn-in service, now featuring the cutting-edge VIDAR 2 burn-in machine. At Future Shop, we strive to provide the best possible experience for our customers, and this enhanced service is designed to unlock the true potential of your high-end cables. Read on to discover the exceptional benefits and advancements offered by the VIDAR 2 machine.
Please note: We are unable to burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. Cable burn-in occurs after your order has been processed for the selected time period. For custom-length cables, burn-in takes place after termination by the manufacturer or our skilled engineers.
The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine seamlessly combines three vital functions into a single operation:
- Neutralising charges around cables and insulation: The VIDAR 2 effectively dissipates any built-up charges, creating an optimal environment for signal transmission.
- Deep conditioning into the conductor core: With its wide band and profound conditioning capabilities, the machine induces significant changes in signal passage through the metal, resulting in enhanced performance.
- Ultrasonic surface conditioning of conductors: The VIDAR 2 employs ultrasonic technology to refine the conductor surface, further refining the signal quality.
In addition to all the advantages of its predecessor, the VIDAR 2 introduces remarkable improvements, including:
- Complex burn-in signal with wider bandwidth and richer content
- Enhanced directionality for cables
- FOUR burn-in zones - including a new digital zone for USB, Ethernet, and Coaxial (BNC) cables.
Using a proprietary blend of composite and complex signals, the VIDAR 2 ensures comprehensive cable conditioning. The signal consists of ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, surpassing video frequency ranges. The signal effectively penetrates the core at ultra-low frequencies by oscillating throughout the cable while swiftly traversing the surface at ultra-high frequencies. This transmission methodology counters harmonics and heterodynes between the two complex waveforms, improving signal performance throughout all cable layers.
Furthermore, the circuitry design boasts a unique feature that drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric or insulation area. This process neutralizes any electrical charges that may impact the signal integrity. With the Nordost VIDAR, we go beyond merely sending ping-pong signals along the cable; we also ensure a balanced signal flow from the centre core to the outer shield in interconnect cables.
What does all this mean for you?
Conditioning your cables with the Nordost VIDAR yields remarkable benefits, including enhanced sound staging, heightened detail reproduction, and a more captivating and musical presentation.
We offer our cable burn-in service as a complimentary offering at the discretion of Future Shop. While we strive to accommodate all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to fulfill all demands due to the limited connections available on the Nordost VIDAR cable conditioning machines.

Features:
- Transpose Modular Termination System: Z-plug, spade or expanding plug
- Cold-weld termination
- Grun Coherent Ground System
- OCC Copper Conductors, solid and stranded
- Microporous PTFE Dielectric with Polyethylene liner
- Foil/Braid Screen with Dual Drain

Contact Enhancer Option
Future Shop recommends the DeoxIT Gold G-Series contact enhancer to ensure the best possible connection between your systems.
DeoxIT Gold is carefully applied to the plug contacts of your cable and is a unique conditioning solution designed to improve conductivity and provide long-lasting protection on gold, base metals and other precious metal contacts and connections. DeoxIT Gold penetrates plated surfaces, molecularly bonding to the base metals to seal and protect both surfaces.
The benefits of applying DeoxIT gold are:
- Improved Conductivity
- Maintained optimum signal quality
- Reduced wear & abrasion
- Prevents fretting/dendrite corrosion
- Forms a protective anti-tarnishing coating
- Stabilises connections between similar and dissimilar metals
- Reduces arcing, RFI and intermittent connections
Please select this option from the above ‘Contact Enhancer’ drop-down menu, and our engineers will apply the contact solution to your cable connectors prior to shipping.
