Audeze LCD-5 Open-Back Leather Headphones
The Audeze LCD-5 Open-Back Leather Headphones represent the pinnacle of headphone engineering, offering unparalleled performance and comfort. Building upon the legacy of Audeze's LCD series, which has set the standard for planar magnetic headphone performance over the past decade, the LCD-5 introduces groundbreaking improvements in drivers, ear pads, and frame design to deliver a new standard of excellence in both performance and comfort.
One of the standout features of the LCD-5 is its new planar driver and magnet structure, which extends frequency response and sets it apart from its predecessors. Remarkably, despite these enhancements, the LCD-5 weighs 1/3 less than the LCD-4, ensuring hours of listening pleasure without fatigue. The new sculpted ear pad design improves upper midrange response, while the improved structural design incorporating magnesium, acetate, and carbon fibre enhances durability and rigidity.
In terms of sound quality, the LCD-5 sets a new standard for accuracy, transparency, and speed. Engineered with award-winning Fluxor magnets, updated Fazor waveguides, and Patent-pending Parallel Uniforce™ voice coils, the LCD-5 delivers pinpoint imaging and an extremely clean and clear soundstage. Every aspect of the LCD-5's acoustic chamber has been optimised to minimise reflections and resonance, resulting in superior clarity and imaging.
The LCD-5's elegant and comfortable design further enhances the listening experience. Crafted from premium materials such as magnesium, aluminium, and acetate, the LCD-5 offers a luxurious feel while remaining lightweight and rigid. The new sculpted, internally sloped ear pad architecture reduces unwanted resonances and interior reflections, ensuring a superior seal and comfortable fit for all shapes and sizes.
In summary, the Audeze LCD-5 Open-Back Leather Headphones represent the culmination of years of research and development, delivering unmatched performance, comfort, and craftsmanship. Whether you're a discerning audiophile, sound engineer, or musician, the LCD-5 promises to elevate your listening experience to new heights.
Features
- New planar driver and magnet structure extends frequency response
- 1/3 less weight than the LCD-4!
- New sculpted earpad design improves upper midrange response
- Improved structural design incorporating magnesium, acetate and carbon-fibre
- Each LCD-5 comes with a balanced 4-pin XLR cable with single-ended adapter.
Transparency, Resolution, and Speed
The LCD-5 sets a new standard for accuracy. Its drivers are engineered with our award-winning Fluxor magnets and updated Fazor waveguides along with our new Patent-pending Parallel Uniforce™ voice coils, which employ varying width parallel traces to keep the impedance low and provide increased voltage headroom by altering the current density within each trace. The uniform force created by this optimisation lowers distortion and provides better control over diaphragm movement, resulting in improved sonic resolution.
Clarity and Imaging
We’ve optimised every aspect of the LCD-5’s acoustic chamber to achieve pinpoint imaging and an extremely clean and clear soundstage. The new sculpted ear pads and acoustically transparent mesh are designed to minimise reflections and resonance, while the Parallel Uniforce™ voice coil allows increased space between magnets for improved frequency response and a more open soundstage. LCD-5 also features newly designed low-profile Fazor waveguides to further reduce diffractions and interactions with the ear.
"It feels like a new level... even more invisible, in the sense that there was any kind of artifact on my head."

Elegant Comfortable Design
Weighing in at only 420 grams, the LCD-5 offers hours of listening pleasure. Every part has been re-engineered, using materials such as magnesium, aluminium and acetate which offer light weight and high rigidity. When you put on a pair of LCD-5s, your head and ears are cradled in materials of the finest quality. Supple premium leather and carbon-fibre pull all the elements together into a package of the finest craftsmanship, which we hand-assemble in our California workshop.
Sculpted Ear pads
Our new sculpted, internally sloped ear pad architecture reduces unwanted resonances and interior reflections. The ergonomic design cradles your cranium, and helps naturally place the headphone in the optimal listening position. The pads have less contact surface area than standard designs to reduce fatigue while providing a superior seal for all shapes and sizes.
Ultra High Purity Adaptable Balanced Cable
The LCD-5 cable is specially tuned with directional OCC high-purity copper strands that provide a low capacitance and low resistance path for the signal to travel from your amp to the drivers, maintaining unsurpassed clarity and precision. It comes standard with an XLR terminated cable for a balanced system or use it with the single ended adapter.

Planar and electrostatic drivers are made in-house
Audeze says its planar magnetic and electrostatic drivers are built in its own factory in Orange County, California. A planar driver moves a thin, flat diaphragm across its whole surface, rather than a cone from a single point. Check the product page for the driver type in the model you want.
Higher-end models are hand assembled in America
The company says its models priced above $399 are hand assembled and tested in the United States. If you are comparing models, each product page shows the specification and price, so you can see where a headphone sits in the range before you decide.
The range is split by use
LCD and CRBN are the hi-fi lines, MM pro is aimed at studio monitoring, and MAXWELL and LCD-GX are built for gaming. Audeze states that it holds eleven American patents. Specifications and amplifier requirements differ by model, so check the product page before you pair a model with your source.
