Audioquest Golden Gate 2 RCA to 2 RCA Audio Cable
The nearly magical confluence of land and sea where the San Francisco Peninsula reaching up from the south, and Marin County stretching down from the north, almost touch, was named "Chrysopylea," meaning "golden gate," by Captain John C. Fremont in 1846. The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world from 1937 to 1964, when New York City's Verrazano Narrows surpassed it by a mere 18 meters (60 ft). The main span is 1,280 meters (4,200 ft) long and 27 meters (90 ft) wide, the towers rise to 227 meters (746 ft) above the water.
Solid Perfect-Surface Copper Conductors (PSC) :
Perfect-Surface Copper has an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire’s surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion conductor. For over 30 years AudioQuest has pioneered the use of superior metals; yet even we were surprised by this huge leap in performance. PSC clearly outperforms previous AQ metals that cost over ten times as much. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty, harsh sound. Solid conductors are fundamental toward achieving Golden Gate's very clean sound.
Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation :
Insulation is necessary to keep the positive and negative conductors separate and to give stability to cable geometry. Insulation is also a "dielectric" because it is inside the conductor's magnetic field. Dielectrics absorb energy, which after a delay is then released in the signal, causing smearing and distortion. Better insulation reduces distortion by absorbing less energy.
The Golden Gate uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on both conductors because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.
Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) :
100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment’s ground reference requires AQ’s Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.
AudioQuest’s Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) offers a compelling solution to this challenge by using metal-only or alternating layers of metal and carbon-loaded synthetics to effectively “shield the shield,” absorbing and reflecting the Radio Frequency (RF) energy before it reaches the layer attached to the ground.
The Golden Gate ultilises the Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) to prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.
Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry :
Geometry is the physical relationship of the conductors to one another within a cable and determines a cable’s most basic electrical values (capacitance and inductance). Different cable applications have different/specialized geometry requirements, and so these applications do not merely follow a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Better geometry leads to lower levels of distortion.
Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. Instantly noticeable difference out of the box, a definite improvement in clarity and separation compared to my previous mid-range (and 2 metres shorter) cable. Run between a Cambridge CXA81 and phono stage.

No burn-in is offered on these, which may be because they're one cable split in two, so not practical to use in some applications.
Out of the box, I thought the cable was a bit lame out of the box, but it does get better quickly. I was comparing it against some Mark Grant HDX1 cables. The AudioQuest was smoother and more musical, and it was easier to hear individual musical strands and rhythms. I guess it was more coherent and controlled. The Mark Grant had greater bass, maybe had a lighter tonal balance. Perhaps with a few more hours running, the order would be reversed. However, they're both very good cables, and I could easily live with either. It would depend on the balance of the rest of your system.
I have gone the expensive interconnect route in the past, which was a mistake. Simply try and find the best cable at your price in your system. One will click.
My scepticism regarding the cost is now no longer relevant , I'd do it again if needed , through my simpleton none audiophile ears they're a great buy & I love the sound quality that they provide , very pleased indeed.
Having built my own power amp and speakers, my system was put together using any interconnects I had conveniently lying around, but always thought the system could/should do better. Fitted these Golden Gate 2 RCA-RCA cables, together with a Cinnamon USB cable and WOW! Immediate difference, whole system has come alive!
I admit I'm converted, and these cables have indeed made an amazing difference to overall tone, clarity and depth - highly recommended!! And after a couple of weeks, they seem to be getting better and better ....
Bought two cables, one to go between my step-up and phono stage, the other from the phono stage to the amplifier. They made an immediate improvement to the sound, especially in the treble, replacing more expensive cables from two other makers. As the hours go by, the improvement just becomes greater.
My order arrived in a trice as usual - excellent service once again!
