AudioQuest Type 5 REL Acoustics High-Level Subwoofer Cable
The Type 5 speaker cable from AudioQuest is fully customisable with any number of different connections. One such connection is the SpeakOn Neutrik plug for use with REL Subwoofers. By upgrading the High-Level sub cable supplied with your REL subwoofer to the Type 5 from AudioQuest you can hear all the benefits of AudioQuest's Type cable construction.
The speaker cable model Type 4 was first introduced about 1983. It wasn’t the prettiest cable, but the performance advantage of its polypropylene insulation was dramatic and much appreciated. Several evolutionary steps later, the current version of Type 4 was introduced in 1995—a design whose foundation is so well balanced that it hasn’t changed since then—and still isn’t changing. Type 5's Low-Distortion & Low-Noise speaker cable is essentially Type 4 with better metal, and with conductors that are a little farther apart, reducing interaction between adjacent conductors by 35%.

Solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) Conductors :
A finessed combination of grainless-sounding Perfect-Surface Copper+ Sonic-Signature conductors, plud Long-Grain Copper, enable a smooth and natural "lack-of-character". Solid conductors eliminate harshness and confusion due to reduced strand-interaction.
Carbon-Loading and Direction-Controlled Noise Dissipation
Carbon-Loading and Direction-Controlled conductors provide effective Noise-Dissipation, minimizing noise modulation and amplifier distortion.
Star-Quad Geometry :
The relationship between conductors defines a cable’s most basic electrical values (capacitance and inductance). However, even when those variables are kept in a reasonable balance, the relationship between conductors can be varied in ways that greatly affect the sound. The Star-Quad construction of Type 5 allows for significantly better dynamic contrast and information intelligibility than if the same conductors were run in parallel.
Gold or Silver Plated Terminations :
AudioQuest offers a wide range of high-quality connectors that allow Type-5 to be securely attached to any type of equipment. Quality is in the low-distortion sound, not necessarily in the eye-candy effect. AQ ends are either a dull looking gold or silver because these metals are plated directly over the connector. There is no shiny and harsh sounding nickel layer underneath. AQ spade plugs are soft because better metal is soft, and facilitates a higher quality connection. For pieces requiring a banana plug or BFA connector the AQ BFA/Banana provides unprecedented performance over conventional brass versions.

This cable is professionally terminated by AudioQuest's engineers using one of the following plug options:
- Series 500 Gold-plated Banana or Spade
- Series 500 Silver-plated Banana or Spade
- Series 1000 Gold-plated Banana or Spade
- Series 1000 Silver-plated Banana or Spade
The Suregrip 300 Beryllium Copper banana plugs offer high tensile strength and are superior sounding to phosphor bronze found on many banana plugs. The Series 500 plugs are made from 'Purple Copper' which is a higher-purity copper compared to the Suregrip 300 Beryllium copper and delivers improved sonic characteristics. The Series 1000 plugs are made from 'Red Copper' which is the highest purity copper in the AudioQuest range and are designed to deliver the very best sonic performance.
The coppers of the connector, just as in the speaker cable itself can lend to the cable sounding more detailed, wider soundstage, lowering of the noise floor and protection of the raw conductors. These benefits increase step by step as you progress higher up the series from the Suregrip 300 Beryllium Copper plugs to the Series 1000 Red Copper banana plugs. The plating process also changes as you move up the series, resulting in a thicker and more durable plating.
How to Order

Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system
AudioQuest also makes AC power cables, Niagara and PowerQuest power conditioners and DragonFly DACs alongside its analogue, digital and speaker cables. If you are building or upgrading a system, that means every cable in the chain, and the power feeding it, can come from one design approach.

- Federal Express International Economy - Item are usually delivered within 48 to 72 hours
We reserve the right to change your shipping method without notification if you select a method that we cannot use for your shipment (for instance, we cannot ship via postal services for items over 2 Kg to International destinations). If we need to change your shipping method, we will choose the least expensive shipping method for your order.
Worldwide - Excluding UK & Europe
Deliveries outside of the UK are not subject to 20% VAT and so the 20% tax on items is automatically deducted when you log-in, register or proceed to place an order.
If applicable, the customer will be liable for the taxes at the local tax rate, duty on the import and the brokerage service fee. This may need to be paid in advance to your local Customs & Excise office or the delivery company before your order can be delivered.

I replaced the factory cable and let it burn in for a week. Sunday morning, I played some music, and as usual, I felt the bass come out from my system more dynamic; I could hear the bass improvement.
