The Blustream DAC 12AU converts digital optical audio signals to analogue outputs for connection to stereo systems and amplifiers. From the off, it sounded well-balanced, and it has just got better as time has gone on. For the reasonable price, it's an excellent product. I think you'll have to spend a whole lot more to make improvements.
I purchased the Blustream DAC because I wanted to downsize from a 5.1 with the receiver to a stereo system. My stereo amp is analogue only, so I needed a DAC to allow connection to the TV via optical cable.
It is simple and works perfectly. It is also small and discreet……I have mine sitting behind the amplifier on four small pieces of bluetac.
It sounds way better than the cheap items from a certain online company, and for my system, a DAC costing hundreds of pounds would be overkill.
So, this is the sweet spot for me. Enjoy.
It works well using the QED Performance Toslink Digital Optical Audio cable (Graphite), which I also purchased from FutureShop after they gave me helpful advice on the phone.
Sky should be ashamed of the cheapskate construction of their boxes. This solves the problem, and well.
Very pleased with the results - incredibly impressed with the sound quality of this DAC. It is highly recommended. The metal construction of the casing is much better than the usual plastic found on this type of DAC unit - and the screw-fixing lips are an especially helpful and valuable, addition.
I can highly recommend Future Shop as the service they provided was great, and the Blustream DAC12AU Digital to Analogue converter is an excellent product which I am delighted with.
It gives great quality sound while taking up a super small footprint.
I haven't yet had a chance to listen to something half-decent (e.g. a Blu-ray soundtrack), but from what I can hear just by listening to the sound coming straight from the TV to my analogue amp and speakers can't envisagthere'llll be any problems with that front.
All in all, I'm one delighted customer, and a Future Shop convert. It just goes to prove, too, that if, as I did previously, you buy a cheap DAC with its own skinny little Toslink, such penny-pinching will almost always create' 'weakest link in the chain scenario no matter how sophisticated the rest of your system. As is so often said, you only get what you pay for.
I am so glad I contacted Future Shop hoping that someone would advise me on the best product for my needs. My sincerest gratitude to Adam Senior and his colleagues for deciding to pick up my query and run with it. And if I ever have any cabling/connection issues in futureI'llll certainly know where to come. Thank you.

There’s no point burning cash when the audio source is the TV. It get the job done without any fuss
Was having problems getting sound on 2 sets of headphones at the same time with new Samsung frame TV without a 3.5mm audio output socket. Tried bluetooth headphones with a bluetooth splitter (not from FutureShop) which worked fine until using catchup or netflix type services when sound was lost, so sent this back. Tried another company's converter but same problem!
Contacted FutureShop sales team who suggested this reasonably priced converter rather than a very much more expensive American type that I was considering. Bought this DAC converter and used my Philips wireless transmitter and everything was fine - never looked back.
