Campfire Audio Chimera IEM Earphones

The Campfire Audio Chimera is the most ambitious in-ear monitor the Portland-based company has produced, bringing together four distinct driver technologies in a single nine-driver configuration that pushes well beyond what conventional IEM design attempts. A 10mm True-Glass dynamic driver, sourced from Glass Acoustics Innovations and made from specialised alkali glass, handles the core of the frequency range with a physicality and texture that glass diaphragms are uniquely suited to deliver. Dual diaphragm balanced armature drivers add mid-frequency richness and speed, while dual high-frequency balanced armatures extend clarity and imaging into the upper registers. Four electrostatic super-tweeters reproduce the finest high-frequency detail, from cymbal shimmer to reverb trails and micro-textures, with a precision and airiness that conventional drivers cannot match.

The most distinctive addition is the bone conduction driver, embedded directly into the magnesium shell to create a sense of visceral, physical low-end engagement that goes beyond what the ear canal alone can convey. Magnesium was chosen specifically for its compatibility with bone conduction technology, its lightweight construction, and its superior sonic transmission properties. A final stage tuning damper in the nozzle brings the output of all nine drivers into cohesive alignment, the result of over fifty iterations of acoustic routing and spatial tuning during development. Each unit of the initial production run was personally built, fine-tuned, and paired by founder and lead engineer.

The faceplate is made from carbon fibre-brass damascus, formed by folding layers of brass into carbon fibre and CNC machining the result to reveal shifting gradients and a natural chatoyance as light catches the surface. No two sets are identical. The shell is available in gold PVD and black PVD finishes, both finished via physical vapour deposition for long-term durability. Each Chimera ships with an ALO Audio Valence-6 cable, a six-wire design terminated in 4.4mm balanced, with four pure copper conductors and two 50/50 pure copper and silver-plated copper conductors, and uses standard 2-pin connectors for compatibility with existing cable collections.

  • Shell: CNC machined PVD magnesium
  • Faceplate: Carbon fiber-brass Damascus
  • Nozzle: Machined brass
  • Finish: Gold PVD or Black PVD
  • Handcrafted in Portland, Oregon

Nine-driver Architecture

Chimera pushes the sonic boundaries of what is possible in a wired earphone, incorporating a new, advanced nine-driver configuration that blends four cutting-edge driver technologies to elicit the best in texture, dynamic resolution, imaging, and a deep sense of sonic engagement.

From the visceral impact of bone conduction to the crystalline shimmer of quad electrostatic super-tweeters, every frequency range is reproduced with extraordinary precision and power.

Artisan Craftsmanship

Instantly catching the eye is Chimera's unique faceplate, made from carbon fiber-brass damascus material. 'Bird's eye' patterned layers of brass folded into carbon fiber and CNC machined to reveal different gradients and patterns.

This creates a unique 'fingerprint' for each set of Chimera and a shimmering luster as light catches the carbon fibers, a quality known as chatoyance. No two sets are identical.

Premium Materials

Chimera's billet CNC PVD magnesium shell was carefully selected for its ultra-lightweight construction and superior sonic transmission compatibility with the bone conduction driver, as well as its premium feel and durability.

Available in gold PVD and black PVD colour options. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) plating delivers a highly durable finish with a distinctly premium feel, ensuring your Chimera maintains its stunning appearance for years to come.

Two Signature Finishes

Choose between gold PVD for timeless elegance or black PVD for modern sophistication. Both feature the same exceptional carbon fiber-brass damascus faceplate and premium materials.

About Campfire Audio

Campfire Audio, founded in 2015, entered the earphone industry with a fresh perspective and a background in crafting audio gear like amps and cables. Focused on delivering exceptional sound quality, they've become a respected brand by continuously refining their designs through rigorous testing and material experimentation. Operating out of Portland, their handmade earphones cater to both audiophiles and music lovers alike, offering diverse sound profiles while maintaining a personal touch in customer service.

About Campfire Audio

Portland-based maker of hand-assembled in-ear monitors, designed, built and quality checked under one roof.

Campfire Audio is based in Portland, Oregon. The company says it handles design, engineering, assembly, quality control and shipping in-house, and that its earphones are hand assembled. A core team of about ten people builds the range, which also includes a portable DAC and amplifier alongside the earphones.

Design and assembly stay in Portland

Campfire says every stage from design to shipping happens in its Portland workshop. Earphones are assembled by hand and checked before they leave. For you, that means a small-scale approach to build, with the same people responsible for each stage.

The earphone range covers several driver layouts

Campfire's lineup includes models such as the Chimera, Astrolith, Andromeda, Orion, Lyra and Jupiter, and several of them use multiple drivers in each earpiece. Check the product page for driver details, as the layout changes from model to model.

A portable DAC and amplifier sits alongside

The Relay is a portable DAC and amplifier for use between a phone or computer and a pair of earphones. Campfire describes its tuning approach as organic. That is the maker's own wording, so compare the specifications and listen to a few models if you can.

Why we stock Campfire Audio

Campfire build almost entirely universal-fit in-ears from Portland, with a wider spread of housings, materials and tunings than most of the category. The range moves quickly and there is more variety of character within it than you get from a single house sound. For a customer who knows what they want tonally, that choice matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start with power (cables & distribution), then upgrade signal cabling, support (Hi-Fi Racks) and isolation accessories. These incremental changes can unlock more from your existing gear. Once you have the basic essentials, then you can look at further upgrades, such as fuses, cartridges, better isolation and more!
It is usually best to address obvious issues first, such as unstable equipment placement or poor isolation, before adding more specialised accessories. Call (0208 905 1555) or Email (sales@futureshop.co.uk) one of our consultants to identify an ideal upgrade path for your system.
A high-quality hi-fi system is built around a few core elements working together. At its heart is a source, such as a streamer, turntable, CD player, or digital audio player, which provides the music. This signal is then shaped and boosted by amplification, which may include an integrated amplifier, headphone amplifier, or phono stage depending on the system. The sound is delivered through speakers or headphones, which have a major influence on the overall character of what you hear. Supporting components also play an important role. DACs improve digital playback quality, cartridges and phono stages are vital for vinyl, and hi-fi racks, speaker stands, and isolation products help equipment perform consistently. A balanced system does not rely on one standout component, but on how well everything works together.
Isolation and support products can make a clearly audible difference, especially in resolving systems. Vibrations from floors, speakers, and even airborne sound can interfere with sensitive components like turntables, DACs, and amplifiers. Proper speaker stands help speakers perform as intended by improving stability, positioning, and bass control. Hi-fi racks and isolation platforms reduce unwanted resonance, helping systems sound cleaner, more focused, and more consistent. While these products may not change the sound as dramatically as speakers or cartridges, they often unlock performance that is already there but being masked by vibration or poor placement.
That depends on the starting point of the system. If the fundamentals are weak, such as entry-level speakers, poor setup, or missing core components, starting with the basics usually brings the biggest gains. A well-matched foundation allows later upgrades to shine. If the system is already balanced, upgrading individual components can be very effective. Improvements such as a better cartridge, DAC, phono stage, or isolation can refine detail, clarity, and realism. The most rewarding upgrades tend to be those that address the system’s weakest link rather than focusing on one category alone.
In many systems, the biggest improvement comes from upgrading speakers or headphones, as these shape the sound more than any other component. For vinyl systems, the cartridge and phono stage are often the most influential upgrades. In digital systems, a higher-quality DAC or streamer can significantly improve clarity and timing. Beyond electronics, addressing setup, isolation, and support is often overlooked but highly effective. Improving speaker positioning, adding proper stands, or isolating sensitive equipment can deliver noticeable gains without changing core components. The best first upgrade is usually the one that removes the most obvious limitation in the current system.
There are lots of components and tweaks that can offer a lift in performance, however, our current favourite is the UK 13A mains fuse from your wall socket to your distribution block or amplifier. This is an often overlooked component in most systems but the improvements far outweigh it's size and cost.
