Chord PowerHAUS S6 UK Mains Distribution Block
The Chord Company PowerHAUS mains block distils decades of working with signal and power transfer. It benefits from a unique version of its acclaimed ARAY technology (MainsARAY), specially adapted for power distribution.
Virtually every component utilised inside the PowerHAUS is uncompromising and has been manufactured specifically for its intended purpose. Accordingly, both M6 and S6 models are non-switched and avoid filters and neon power indicators, which can generate noise and reduce quality. Their solid aluminium construction minimises the unwanted effects of microphony, too.
The PowerHAUS blocks benefit from specially selected, high-quality, heavy-gauge cables throughout, with sockets chosen for their reliability and sound performance. A high-performance 16-amp IEC allows the PowerHAUS blocks to cope with even the most demanding home audio systems.
Available in two performance levels, the flagship M6 (Master) and entry-level S6 (Studio), the six-way PowerHAUS distribution devices result from one of the longest product development phases Chord have undertaken.
The flagship M6 offers the best performance and utilises three hybrid MainsARAYs fitted in parallel (rather than in series) to the bus bars, removing high-frequency noise while remaining outside the circuit. Rather than being star-wired (which is susceptible to RFI), the wiring is run along three bus bars, which are all isolated from each other. The earth bus bar is kept as far away as possible from both the live and neutral.
The S6 retains many of the core features of the flagship M6 but is more affordable and represents a significant improvement over standard mains distribution blocks.

FutureShop's Expert Review of the PowerHAUS S6
For such a spartan piece of kit, we spent a lot of time on it – one song, another song, with it, without it, comparing other units. We liked it.
The first track – classic hi-fi testing material – Tracy Chapman's Mountain O' Things showed how the PowerHAUS coped with well-balanced music. The song sounded natural, distinguishing the intro's delicate marimba tones from the subtle palm-muted guitar rhythm. Chapman's contralto voice (the lowest female vocal range) had its timbre precisely defined amid the characteristic musical texture of the 80s, while the low noise floor gave the music space to move and the bass able to punch more assertively.
For a contemporary spin, Lou Hayter's punchy track, Time Out of Mind, came at us with a lively snap from the music's leading edges while the impression of movement kept the song bouncing into the crunchy guitar solo.
Finally, Ben E King's Supernatural Thing lets our PowerHAUS S6 show us its rhythmic talent. When that track ended, it just had to be played again. We were reminded that lowering the noise floor like this exposes the transients in sounds, giving leading edges that exciting cadence, which involves us with music. Product Development / History
Chord Company has been building and using mains power distribution blocks since 1984. What started out as a basic necessity for powering equipment and demonstrating the cable ranges has now become a crucial part in the musical/visual performance of an entertainment system.
Many different mains block designs and construction methods were studied, borrowed-from and tweaked over the intervening years. Some were better than others and while minor performance improvements were noted, many of the designs would not pass safety regulations for domestic or commercial use.
Once the optimum wiring and shielding methods (including the unique Chord Company ARAY technology) were established and the blocks met our precise performance expectations the prototypes were independently examined and certified to all appropriate safety standards.
The in-house listening tests were carried out via prolonged sessions in our demo room using a wide selection of equipment and media.
Listening tests (via our selected retailers) are also strongly recommended to fully appreciate the level of noise-reduction and what this can bring to your musical /visual experience.

ARAY conductors appear in several ranges
ARAY is Chord's conductor geometry. The Signature digital cables pair it with silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors, PTFE insulation and silver-plated braid and foil screening. Tuned ARAY is a later development of the same idea and appears in the Epic, Signature, Sarum and Shawline ranges, while ClearwayX carries ARAY.
Power and grounding get the same attention
Chord extends its ARAY work beyond signal cables, with PowerARAY, GroundARAY, PowerHAUS mains products and the PhonoARAY grounding product. ChorAlloy is another named Chord technology. Grounding and mains products work on a different part of the chain from signal cables, so they are the place to look when noise is the problem in your system.
Named ranges from one English maker
The ranges are Leyline, C-series, Clearway, Shawline, Epic, Signature and Sarum T, with ChordMusic as a further line. Chord describes its cables as English design and hand construction, so choosing a range comes down to your budget and your system, not to changing approach.

The Chord Powerhaus S6 is not cheap but definitely worth it.
The overall clarity and channel separation are improved, detail is improved, and the result is a fuller and richer sound. The heavy-duty Chord PowerHAUS S6 unfiltered supply is great value and I am very pleased with the product.
My setup: Allo Digoione Signature transport, MHDT Labs Orchid DAC, PrimaLuna Evo 300 Preamp, Mystere PA21 Power Amp, and Focal Aria 936 loudspeakers. All conected with high-end Atlas cables purchased from The Future Shop.
I am extremely pleased with the improvement which the addition of the Chord PowerHAUS S6 has made to my system.
And I owe a special "thank you" to Steve at The Future Shop for his expert professional advice and top-notch, friendly service.
Well, I can tell you that my system has made a massive improvement. And I can't fault Steve. He's a top man and is very easy to deal with.
