Furutech FP-3-117 Rhodium BNC Connector
The Furutech FP-3-117(R) is a BNC connector built for the parts of a system where a 75 ohm coaxial link carries something timing-critical: S/PDIF digital audio, a word clock or 10MHz reference feed, or a video signal. BNC is preferred over RCA for these jobs because its bayonet lock holds the connection mechanically secure and its geometry maintains a consistent impedance through the connector, which is exactly where reflections tend to appear on a coaxial run. This is Furutech's high performance version of that connector, built to the material standards they apply across their connector range.
The centre pin is Alpha eutectic cast copper alloy, Furutech's own treated conductor material, and the body is copper alloy plated in rhodium. Rhodium is chosen for its hardness and resistance to corrosion, so the contact surface stays clean over years of connection cycles rather than tarnishing like bare copper or wearing through like thin gold. Insulation is fluoropolymer, a material with very low dielectric absorption and high dielectric strength, which matters more on a high frequency digital or clock signal than it does at audio frequencies.
Termination is by soldering rather than crimping or set screw, which suits the fine centre conductor of a coaxial cable and lets an experienced installer control the joint precisely. The connector accepts cable up to 8mm in diameter, covering most 75 ohm digital and clock coaxial cable, and measures 14mm in diameter by 43mm overall, both to a tolerance of 0.1mm. Connectors are supplied as a set of two, enough to terminate both ends of a single cable.

A cryogenic and demagnetising treatment
The Alpha Process combines cryogenic treatment with demagnetisation, and Furutech applies it to its alpha-treated pure copper. It sits alongside Ohno Continuous Cast single-crystal copper in the conductor line-up, so the Furutech catalogue includes more than one route to a pure copper conductor.
Copper, silver and hybrid conductors
Furutech's materials include silver-plated copper and copper-silver hybrids as well as OCC and alpha-treated copper. DUCC and PC-Triple C copper appear in some of its cables. This range of conductors means the same plug design can be paired with different cable types.
NCF material and interference absorption
Furutech describes its NCF, short for Nano Crystal Formula, as generating negative ions and converting thermal energy into far infrared energy. It also uses a material called GC-303 to absorb electromagnetic interference. These are Furutech's own descriptions of what the materials are designed to do.
