Gold Note HP-5.2 Headphone Amplifier
The Gold Note HP-5.2 is a high-end headphone amplifier built around a balanced dual-mono Class A circuit, a design that prioritises signal purity and keeps distortion consistently low across all listening levels. With four headphone outputs and generous power reserves, it handles everything from sensitive in-ear monitors to demanding, high-impedance full-size headphones without compromise. All settings are applied in real-time within the analogue domain, keeping the signal path clean and free from digital processing artefacts, and premium components are used throughout the audio path to support the level of performance the design is capable of delivering.
What sets the HP-5.2 apart is its Studio feature suite, a collection of analogue tools that genuinely improve the headphone listening experience rather than simply adding options for the sake of it. Crossfeed blends the left and right channels to recreate a more natural soundstage closer to loudspeaker listening, the Harman setting applies an optimised equalisation curve suited to headphone acoustics, Superflat linearises the high-frequency response, and the adjustable damping factor allows precise matching to the impedance characteristics of specific headphones. A left and right balance control adds further flexibility for those with hearing asymmetry or particular driver characteristics to account for.
Connectivity is broad and practical. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue inputs are complemented by Bluetooth 5.2 HD aptX and a USB-C digital input with onboard SABRE ES9023 DAC, allowing direct streaming from smartphones, tablets, and computers. Front panel headphone outputs cover 3.5mm, 6.35mm, 4.4mm balanced, and 4-pin XLR balanced connections, with Bluetooth headphone output also available via the touchscreen. Line outputs allow the HP-5.2 to function as a full preamplifier with all Studio settings applied to the main system, and a bypass function enables seamless integration into systems that already include a separate preamplifier.
Here is what Gold Note say about the HP-5.2
The HP-5.2 is our latest high-end headphone amplifier, engineered for the most demanding audiophiles. It features a balanced Dual-Mono Class A design that ensures signal purity and delivers exceptional audio fidelity. With four headphone outputs and abundant power, it effortlessly handles any headphone on the market.
The audio path is constructed with premium components, and all settings are applied in real-time within the analog domain. Combining high sound quality, versatility, and unique features, the HP-5.2 offers extraordinary performance at an unbeatable price.
A touchscreen display ensures quick adjustments and an intuitive user experience. Perfect for all high-end systems, the HP-5.2 boasts advanced tools such as Crossfeed (for soundstage reconstruction), Harman option (to optimize headphone listening), variable gain and damping factor, and mono/stereo selection.
It functions as a traditional amplifier with analog inputs/outputs while integrating Bluetooth 5.2 HD aptX, USB-C, and a SABRE ES9023 DAC.
Analogue Domain
The entire audio path is constructed with premium components, with all settings applied in real-time within the analogue domain for the purest possible signal path.
Bypass Function
For systems with a preamplifier, the bypass function allows the HP-5.2 to integrate without altering existing wiring, letting you switch seamlessly between headphone and loudspeaker listening.
Controls
A touchscreen display and included multifunctional remote allow full control of every setting from your listening position, without interruption.
Connectivity
Inputs include balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA, Bluetooth 5.2 HD aptX, and USB-C. Headphone outputs cover 3.5mm, 6.3mm, 4.4mm, and XLR on the front panel, with Bluetooth headphone support via the touchscreen.
Preamplifier Mode
Selecting the RCA or XLR line outputs puts the HP-5.2 into preamplifier mode, allowing all Studio settings to be applied to your main system.

About Gold Note
The story of Gold Note is one of dedication and talent. And, like all business success stories, it is a plural experience: the paths of a vast community of people intertwine in the magnificent headquarters nestled in the Florentine hills. Every day, these people put their skills and abilities at the service of the same goal, the Italian sound.
But in the beginning was Maurizio Aterini. It’s the end of the Seventies of the last century; Maurizio is only eight years old: one night his father comes home with a stereo system that will change his entire life. From that moment, his passion for audio reproduction systems is ignited. At the beginning it is little more than an interest he shares with many of his peers, something that fascinates and intrigues him; but as time goes on, this pull grows and in the Eighties Maurizio, now a young man, starts studying engineering at the university.
1992 is a pivotal year: Maurizio decides to challenge himself and he founds a technical design studio for third parties. Those are the years when he designs a specific tonearm that, up to these days, is still mounted on the Gold Note turntables with very few changes: the B-5, a model with an accurate distribution of the weights along its longitudinal axis, which guarantees a perfectly balanced configuration.
Commission after commission, the company achieves a good reputation among the international community, eventually asserting itself as an important boutique of sound engineering. The industrial model proves to be able to offer to the market creativity, engineering and production startup, thus guaranteeing the utmost flexibility at the service of the companies’ needs. The growth of the working group runs parallel to the company development: in the early 2000s, technicians and designers are joined by other figures, like Elena Basciano, Maurizio’s wife, who joins the company as head of human resources, putting to good use the experience she gained as head of many large international corporations. In 2007 Alessio Oronti becomes an associate and enters the executive ranks of the company.
In the meantime, a new type of interlocutors looms on the horizon: no longer just constructors with very specific catalogue requirements, but also distributors without well-established brands, looking for a new one. It’s at this moment that Maurizio, Elena and Alessio realize that it is time to leave the third-party industry. In 2012 Gold Note is founded. It’s the beginning of a new story: many of those who used to be their clients are now competitors; but the market looks promising: from the very start Family sound and design are recognised as the distinctive traits of the brand. Today, more than ten years after that moment, the company controls all the major markets, and it has a well-established reputation both among the experts and the audio enthusiasts as a guarantee of audio excellence. In such a competitive and crowded space as the world of audiophilia, Gold Note is a synonym of reliability, sonic quality, constant research for innovation and respect for the tradition of the Italian sound.
About Gold Note
Italian maker of turntables, cartridges, phono stages and amplifiers, built near Florence in Tuscany.
Gold Note is an Italian company near Florence, with a factory in Montespertoli, Tuscany. It makes turntables, cartridges, phono stages, streaming DACs, amplifiers, headphone amplifiers, power supplies, CD players and loudspeakers. Its own B-5 tonearm is fitted to its turntables, so the arm and the deck come from one designer.

Turntables and cartridges from one maker
The turntables include the Mediterraneo, Giglio, Pianosa and Valore, and the cartridges include the Tuscany, Machiavelli, Donatello and Vasari. The B-5 tonearm design dates from 1992 and has changed little since. Both lists come from one maker, so a deck and a cartridge can be chosen together.
Electronics with a plain, clean layout
Gold Note builds integrated amplifiers such as the IS-10 and IS-1000, the DS-10 EVO streamer, power amplifiers and phono stages. Its stated approach is clean circuitry, solid power supplies and a minimal look, and its factory makes its own cases and circuit boards.
Phono stages for different cartridges
The PH-5.2 phono stage is an update of the PH-5, with a black anodised aluminium chassis, an upgraded power supply and a revised display layout. Phono stages sit alongside the turntables and cartridges, so a complete vinyl front end can come from one brand.
Why we stock Gold Note
In June 2024 two of us visited Gold Note's factory in Tuscany with their UK distributor, met the founder, and spent time in the R&D labs. Seeing where the components are chosen and why changed how we thought about the brand. We came back and listed the entire range, which we rarely do.
