Astell&Kern A&ultima Clarus In-Ear Monitor Earphones
The Astell&Kern CLARUS is the company's fourth flagship in-ear monitor, following the Zero1, Zero2 and Luna, and is built on a nine-driver tribrid architecture that brings three different driver technologies into a single coherent system. A proprietary 9mm dynamic driver paired with two Sonion balanced armatures handles the low frequencies, three further Sonion balanced armatures cover the midrange, and the high-frequency system combines two more balanced armatures with a silicon MEMS tweeter. Each element was developed for a distinct role and integrated through precise control of phase, pressure and motion, so the nine drivers behave as one acoustic framework rather than a collection of separate technologies.
The silicon MEMS tweeter is the most unusual element here. Its monolithic silicon structure gives it semiconductor-level speed and phase stability, retrieving fine high-frequency detail with a focus and consistency conventional drivers struggle to match. Holding all of this together is a proprietary six-way crossover network that assigns each driver group a defined operating range and filters each acoustic path independently, preserving timing, phase behaviour and smooth tonal transitions across the full 20Hz to 20kHz response. The result is the character Astell&Kern were aiming for: even, natural clarity across the whole spectrum, letting the recording speak for itself rather than colouring it or drawing attention to particular details.
The housing is CNC-machined from lightweight aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminium and finished in anodised silver, with a multi-faceted faceplate whose precision-cut planes create depth and controlled reflection. The alloy's low density keeps the earpiece comfortable while its stiffness controls resonance, giving the quiet acoustic background the driver array needs, and the organic ergonomic form is shaped for a stable, well-isolated fit. With a sensitivity of 103.9 dB SPL and an impedance of 9.7 ohms, both measured at 1kHz, the CLARUS is straightforward to drive from a portable player.
Astell&Kern supply the CLARUS with genuinely serious accessories rather than afterthoughts. The cable is a custom-spec Effect Audio Ares S Lite, using UP-OCC pure copper Litz conductors in a 24 AWG four-wire dual geometric design, terminated with a 0.78mm 2-pin connector at the earpiece and a 4.4mm balanced plug at the source. Six sizes of AZLA SednaEarfit SE2000 tips in KCC medical-grade silicone cover the range from SS to L for a proper acoustic seal, and the package is completed by an IEM pouch, a cable holder and a Saffiano leather case. The CLARUS was developed and voiced on Astell&Kern reference systems and tuned alongside the flagship SP4000T player.
What Astell&Kern say about the CLARUS
A sound as clear and brilliant as starlight
Following Zero1, Zero2, and Luna, CLARUS is Astell&Kern's fourth flagship in-ear monitor, and our finest yet. Every product we make begins with a single belief: that sound should be heard exactly as it was meant to be.
From the arrangement of every driver to the final voicing, CLARUS was engineered and tuned to that belief. It was developed and voiced on Astell&Kern reference systems, and tuned together with our flagship SP4000T player, so that what you hear is the true spirit of Astell&Kern.
Named after the star in "Astell," CLARUS was voiced to shine with the same quality a star does - clear, pure, and unwavering. Rather than highlighting one frequency or enhancing another, CLARUS delivers natural clarity evenly across the entire spectrum. It doesn't color the music or draw attention to specific details-it simply lets the recording speak for itself, allowing you to experience the Astell&Kern sound in its purest, most luminous form.
9-Driver Tribrid
CLARUS is built on a precisely harmonized 9-driver tribrid architecture that combines a proprietary dynamic driver, seven Sonion balanced armatures, and a silicon MEMS tweeter within a single, coherent system. Each element was developed for its distinct role and tuned through precise control of phase, pressure, and motion.

About Astell&Kern
Astell&Kern is the ultimate digital music source that brings you Mastering Quality Sound or MQS. Astell means ‘Stars’ in Latin and Kern means ‘Center’ in German. We believe Astell&Kern is the center of music.
Today, original music performances can be captured in digital almost exactly as they were performed due to new, advanced recording technology currently available. However, these high quality recordings are mainly listened to through inferior sound formats, such as MP3 or through streaming services. With the debut of the MP3 format, music lovers sacrificed sound quality for the convenience of being able to carry their music collection wherever they went. Because the MP3 format heavily compresses files for the sake of convenience, the vocals and instruments you hear are only an inferior version of the original. The soundstage and the ambience of the original performance often disappears when listening to compressed MP3 music. After pondering these issues, Astell&Kern was our solution to poor sound quality for the sake of portability, and our way in reviving the original sound quality of music, MQS, for music artists, recording engineers, and professionals.
Astell&Kern's pursuit is to provide natural and original sound without distortion. It showcases the presence of the original recording with miniscule details you may not have noticed from other music systems, while playing back high-resolution music bit by bit, exactly as it was recorded. The ability to play back the exact recording of any live performance is what Astell&Kern is known for.
The power of true sound from Astell&Kern can now be experienced and has been part of many famous audio exhibitions around the world. Astell&Kern is now admired by music lovers from many countries, including the USA, China, Japan, UK, France, and many more around the world.
