Atlas Element Achromatic 1 RCA to 1 RCA Subwoofer Cable

Based on Atlas' multi-award-winning Element Integra Interconnect, the Element Subwoofer Integra utilises a shielded four-core construction providing excellent immunity to interference and noise, making it ideally suited to multi-source installations and the longer cable runs typically necessitated by optimum sub-woofer placement.

The Element Subwoofer Achromatic utilises four cores of high purity OFC conductors with in a twisted configuration with cross linked Polyethylene dielectric (insulation) for excellent immunity to external RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) and EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference), which can increase background noise levels and effectively decrease the dynamic range of your fhifi or home theatre system.

Features :

  • Achromatic RCA Plugs
  • OFC Conductors
  • PEF Dielectric
  • 4 Core + Screen Construction

Achromatic Plugs

Atlas’s expert electro-mechanical knowledge has led to the innovation of the next generation of RCA plugs. Known as the ‘Atlas Achromatic RCA plug’, Atlas has focused on improving both performance and appearance to create a higher performance starting point for their RCA cables as well as eliminating variability in performance. This has been achieved by refocusing on materials and the assembly processes.

Atlas has made 4 key changes with the Achromatic RCA plug. Firstly, the barrel of the Achromatic plug features a high stability ABS material. This is strong, stable and of superlative surface quality.

There is also an improvement to the Achromatic plug’s contact geometry, aiding the contact properties of the plug and the self-cleaning wiping action to ensure contacts are in optimal condition and to maximise signal transmission.

The third change Atlas made was around the rifling of the RCA pin. This improvement self-aligns the conductors during the cold weld processing, ensuring a superior stable connection.

Finally, there is a reduction in the overall mass of the RCA plug by 8% which has shown to improve signal transmission.

The above changes mean a solder-free, low mass, self-cleaning, recyclable RCA plug with a non-conductive body.

Oxygen Free Copper (OFC)

OFC is produced through an extrusion process which takes place in an oxygen-free-inert-gas atmosphere. This leads to a reduced oxygen content (10 ppm) when compared to Tough Pitch Copper (TPC) and an improvement in conductivity which typically measures in at between 0.5% and 2% greater than TPC. The OFC process therefore produces a much higher quality audio cable than the TPC process. High purity conductors sound clearer than their unprocessed (TPC) counterparts because there are fewer crystal boundaries present to cause signal degradation.

PEF Dielectric

PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables. Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE). PEF (Foamed Polyethylene). The foaming process uses a blowing agent, of which there are two types. Atlas use the gas-foamed method which creates a more inert, consistent and higher quality product. The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

About Atlas Cables Made in United Kingdom

Atlas Cables are a major producer of interconnects and cables in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. All products are researched, developed and most are assembled in the Atlas purpose built factory in Scotland.

Many of these products are unique and use advanced techniques of production or manufacture in order to bring to the user the very finest quality products. With each new model we continue to push the boundaries of reliability and performance. It's little wonder then, that Atlas Cables have had so many mile-stone advances in the past and that Atlas Cables have secured so many awards in comparative tests against other products.

About Atlas Cables

Scottish cable maker that designs and builds its own conductors, connectors and cables rather than assembling bought-in parts.

Atlas researches, designs and produces its cables in Scotland, with a handful of exceptions. Many cable brands assemble off-the-shelf components, but Atlas specifies the conductors, insulation and terminations itself and tests the result in its own listening room. It offers a five-year guarantee on its cables.

The plugs are Atlas designs too

Atlas designs its own RCA plugs. The Achromatic and Ultra RCAs are built for low mass and high bandwidth, and the newer Metik connectors were developed for personal audio. Designing the connectors in house means Atlas is not limited to what an outside supplier already sells.

Three performance levels, with named ranges in each

The catalogue is arranged in three performance levels. Upgrade covers Element and Equator, Aspire covers Hyper and Ailsa, and High End covers Mavros, Arran, Eos and Zeno. You can choose the level that suits the rest of your system, then move up later without changing brand.

Custom options and a repair service

Atlas lists luxe and speaker termination options, so you can specify a cable to suit the equipment at each end. It also repairs, customises and upgrades its cables through a dedicated service, which means you can bring an older cable up to date instead of replacing it.

Why we stock Atlas

Atlas run pure copper conductors through most of the range rather than silver or silver plating. That gives a warmer, more forgiving balance than the silver-plated cables we sell. If your system is already leaning bright, Atlas is usually where we point you first. Hand-built in Scotland, and we have sold them since 2008.

Atlas Element Achromatic 5m subwoofer cables 16 June 2024
Obviously, it is of good quality and has a well-put-together interconnect cable. Purchased two 5m long subwoofer cables.

The price is very reasonable for cables of this quality, and the sound is open and neutral without being showy or flashy. In fact, these cables almost disappear and let the music play.

Recommended.

Poor build quality, awful customer service 29 February 2024
This cable has poor manufacturing standards, the connection housing to the cable itself is quite weak and disintegrated upon first use. I would ordinarily accept that errors can occur in the build, but since contacting FutureShop, they were not able to offer a replacement or refund.
Response from Future Shop
Hi Sahil,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We are sorry to hear about your experience and the issue with the cable you purchased from us. We aim for the highest standards of quality and customer service, so it's important for us to address your concerns thoroughly.

1). Firstly, we would like to note that we have supplied many of these factory-terminated cables and have not had any previous reports of issues regarding build quality. We understand that you have also purchased a number of Atlas subwoofer cables from us without any reported issues, which leads us to believe this may be an isolated incident. Atlas Cables has built its reputation by manufacturing high-quality cables. We rarely find any issues with their cables, as reflected by many positive reviews.

2). According to our records, our customer service team responded promptly to your enquiry. Upon hearing about your issue with the cable, we issued a business reply mailing document to expedite the return at our cost and asked that you keep proof of posting. This is a standard procedure designed to ensure a smooth return process for our customers.

3). Unfortunately, our customer returns team has not received the item in question. Without the returned item or proof of postage, we find ourselves in a difficult position as we are unable to exchange the item under warranty. This policy is in place to ensure fairness and accountability in the returns process.

Average sound quality 3 December 2023
Although this cable is well made, the sound quality is not quite as good as expected. The bass sounds flabby. I bought a 10m version of the cable to replace two lengths of an existing Audioquest Greyhound subwoofer cable connected via an Audioquest coupler to my REL T9x.

I’ve given the Atlas cable plenty of time to run in (burn-in was not offered at the time), but it just does not sound as good as my existing Audioquest cables, so I am swapping that back. No other concurrent changes to my system were made.

The price is very similar. Not sure if the long length has anything to do with it and whether a shorter cable would sound better? As such, I would not recommend this cable.

Always a fab service from Futureshop though.

Nice Addition To My Atlas Wired System 10 January 2021
I decided to save a bit with this Element cable compared to the Equator version like my main speaker cables. The pearl white housing matches my Equator wires perfectly and the RCA terminals have the perfect tolerance for my amp and sub.

I am very satisfied with the quality.
