Atlas Element USB Type A to Type Micro B Cable
Atlas' very well reviewed Element USB, with USB Type A to Micro B connector, ideally suited to high-performance portable DACs such as the Chord Mojo series. Specifically developed to meet the requirements of USB as an audio interface on portable devices.
Digital theory suggests that data is nothing more than a stream of ‘ones & zeros’ and all a cable has to do is transfer the data from one device to another. While that’s essentially true with regard to connecting your printer, it turns out to be an overly simplistic view when considering USB audio devices.
A computer will typically continue sending data ‘packets’ (bundles of data) to a USB device until all the data is successfully received. If an error is encountered, the packet is sent again, as often as necessary, regardless of how long it takes until all the data has been received. Although this all happen in a matter of microseconds, in the context of high fidelity audio, these ‘timing’ issues are audibly significant. And as with any cable intended for high resolution low-level signals, the same is true of the materials and construction methods employed right down to the fit & finish of the connectors.
A ‘freebie’ USB cable typically sounds grainy and edgy, with high levels of background ‘noise’ affecting sound quality. Atlas USB cables draw on their knowledge gained with hi-speed video connections, combined with extensive and ongoing research into the specifics of USB & Ethernet-type cables in audio applications. Silver-plated high purity copper conductors with a triple layer screen and precision cold-weld connectors combine to provide optimal signal transmission and demonstrably superior sound quality.

Atlas USB Plugs
Precision moulded, 360° screened USB Type A connector with superior transmission & reception properties, maintaining the termination characteristic impedance.
Oxygen Free Copper (OFC)
OFC is produced through an extrusion process which takes place in an oxygen-free-inert-gas atmosphere. This leads to a reduced oxygen content (10 ppm) when compared to Tough Pitch Copper (TPC) and an improvement in conductivity which typically measures in at between 0.5% and 2% greater than TPC. The OFC process therefore produces a much higher quality audio cable than the TPC process. High purity conductors sound clearer than their unprocessed (TPC) counterparts because there are fewer crystal boundaries present to cause signal degradation.

PEF Dielectric
PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.
Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).
PEF (Foamed Polyethylene). The foaming process uses a blowing agent, of which there are two types. Atlas use the gas-foamed method which creates a more inert, consistent and higher quality product.
The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

Treble is generally quite good but tends to sit almost directly behind the mids. Bass is a little subdued to be honest. It doesn't reach particularly deep nor is very detailed (compared to the cinnamon at least). Sound staging is decent if not as detailed as you might hope. The only thing I don't really like is I find it a little two dimensional sounding. It probably hasn't had quite enough burn in yet but it's so far shaping up to be a great cable for less complex music that doesn't have too much going on.
