AudioQuest Carbon USB 3.0 Type A to Type Micro B Data Cable
In 1982 Sony gave us "Perfect sound forever," along with the attitude that, "it's just digital, so all CD players sound the same." That was disproved and qualitative differences between players became accepted truth. Next came separate transport and DAC combos, which brought with it the attitude that "all S/PDIF digital audio cables sound the same..." until that too became disproved. Now the frontier has moved once again. Is digital audio really just ones and zeros? We don't believe so, and once you've had a chance to listen to Carbon USB, you won't think so either...
Features :
- Solid 5% Silver Conductors
- Hard-Cell Foam Insulation
- Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise Dissipation System (NDS)
- Silver-Plated Terminations
- SuperSpeed USB 3.0
Solid 5% Silver Conductors :
Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high-frequency applications, like USB audio. These signals, being such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. As the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very close to that of a solid silver cable, but priced much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost effective way of manufacturing very high-quality USB cables.
Hard-Cell Foam Insulation :
Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest’s video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen injected to create air pockets. ‘Hard’ foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.
Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise Dissipation System (NDS)
100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment’s ground reference requires AQ’s Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.
Silver-Plated Terminations :
Precision direct-silver plated pins are carefully attached with the very best solder. Through choice of flux and metallurgy, AQ solder has been optimized to make a low-distortion connection. The difference you hear between solders is a result of connection quality. AQ Solder does not have a high silver content because the more silver there is in solder, the more difficult it is to make a good connection.
Superspeed USB 3.0 :
Specifies data-transfer rates up to 4.8Gbps vs. Hi-Speed USB 2.0’s maximum signaling rate of 480Mbps.
Specification :
- Metal: Solid 5% Silver-plated conductors
- Dielectric: Solid High-Density Polyethylene
- Termination: Direct-Silver Plated
- Jacket Colour: Black/Grey braid
About AudioQuest
AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for many years. AudioQuest is sold in several hundred outlets in the US and in over sixty countries. Bill Lowe (Founder) is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don’t want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.
About AudioQuest
Californian cable maker covering analogue, digital, speaker and power cables, with patented conductor and dielectric designs.
AudioQuest is based in Irvine, California, and makes cables for nearly every connection in a system: analogue interconnects, USB, HDMI and Ethernet, speaker cables and AC power cables. Its designs come back to four ideas: solid conductors, directionality, noise dissipation and the quality of the metal.

Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system
AudioQuest also makes AC power cables, Niagara and PowerQuest power conditioners and DragonFly DACs alongside its analogue, digital and speaker cables. If you are building or upgrading a system, that means every cable in the chain, and the power feeding it, can come from one design approach.
Why we stock AudioQuest
We took AudioQuest on for HDMI. When the 1.4 spec arrived in 2009 they were the first supplier who could actually get the cables to us, at a point when almost nobody could. The power cables turned out to be just as good, and they are now a bigger part of what we sell than the HDMI ever was.
Specification :
- Metal: Solid 5% Silver-plated conductors
- Dielectric: Solid High-Density Polyethylene
- Termination: Direct-Silver Plated
- Jacket Colour: Black/Grey braid

I have read reviews of this cable which claim it has quite a long run in time, for me it sounded pretty good from cold, but I’m looking forward to further improvements which I am myself beginning to hear even after only 24 hours playing time.
Very pleased with this purchase, and superb dealings with FutureShop as usual.
After listening to music that I am very familiar with, I was amazed at the level of improvement. Bass was deeper and faster, treble became more natural and midrange became clearer. The soundstage became more accurate and extended further beyond the boundaries of the speakers, with each player/instrument having additional space and realism.
Bottom line, If you have good quality components, do not hesitate to pull the trigger on this, as I consider the improvements gained as being close to upgrading a component!
Box was dented but does not affect the product.
May be in future you want to ensure the box of product will be protected as well.. example box is a box, like amazon
