Campfire Audio Astrolith - Dual Planar IEM
The Campfire Audio Astrolith is the flagship of Campfire's planar magnetic IEM line and one of the few in-ear monitors to use planar drivers across the whole frequency range rather than pairing a single planar with dynamic or balanced armature drivers. A planar magnetic driver moves a thin diaphragm evenly across its surface, not from a single point, which gives it fast transient response and low distortion. By using two planars, each handling its own part of the range, Astrolith keeps that character consistent from bass to treble. Campfire hand assemble their wired earphones in Portland, Oregon.
The low and mid frequencies come from a 14.2mm planar magnetic driver, updated mechanically from Campfire's earlier planar designs to deliver deep, tight and fast bass. High frequencies are handled by a 6mm micro planar driver, whose very quick movement produces extended treble and fine detail. Micro planars can sound sharp, so Campfire place a custom Particle Phase Resonator in front of it to smooth high-frequency response without dulling its speed. The housing uses Campfire's Additive Acoustic Optical Inclusion construction, with precision tuning chambers built into the shell to create tightly controlled acoustic volumes. Impedance is a low 8.2 ohms at 1kHz, and the earphone reaches 94dB SPL at 1kHz from 44.9mVrms, so it is very easy to drive, though best paired with a low output impedance source.
The shell is optically clear and dyed black from the inside, so the internal structure is faintly visible, and it is capped with a CNC-machined, terraced stainless steel faceplate hand-polished to a mirror finish. Stainless steel nozzles resist wear from frequent eartip changes, and custom-matrix MMCX connectors let the cable be detached and swapped. Astrolith comes with Time Stream Metal cables in both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced terminations, a Dimensional Folding Wallet handmade in Portugal, a Breezy Bag Micro mesh pouch, foam and silicone eartips in three sizes, and cleaning tools. It carries Campfire's 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
What Campfire Audio say about the Astrolith
A New Plane of Performance
Astrolith is the pinnacle of planar magnetic IEM performance. Powered by a 14mm planar magentic driver alongside a 6mm micro-planar, it creates a pure planar experience that is powerful, resolving and unlike any other.
14mm Planar Magnetic Driver
Powering Astrolith's low and mid frequencies and featuring mechanical updates from earlier iterations, it creates deep-reaching, satisfying low end that is remains tight, fast, and accurate.
6mm Micro Planar Magnetic Driver
Targeting high-frequencies, this compact planar driver moves incredibly fast, creating incredible high frequency extension and unparalleled levels of detail and resolution.
Particle Phase Resonator
Shaping and taming the wild character of Astrolith's micro planar, our Particle Phase Resonator (PPR) is custom engineered to smooth high-frequency performance without compromising the driver's natural strenghts.

Design and assembly stay in Portland
Campfire says every stage from design to shipping happens in its Portland workshop. Earphones are assembled by hand and checked before they leave. For you, that means a small-scale approach to build, with the same people responsible for each stage.
The earphone range covers several driver layouts
Campfire's lineup includes models such as the Chimera, Astrolith, Andromeda, Orion, Lyra and Jupiter, and several of them use multiple drivers in each earpiece. Check the product page for driver details, as the layout changes from model to model.
A portable DAC and amplifier sits alongside
The Relay is a portable DAC and amplifier for use between a phone or computer and a pair of earphones. Campfire describes its tuning approach as organic. That is the maker's own wording, so compare the specifications and listen to a few models if you can.
