Chord ClearwayX Tuned Aray Analogue 3.5mm to 2 RCA cable
The 3.5mm mini-jack to 2 RCA cable is part of the multi-award-winning ClearwayX range by Chord Company, featuring ARAY technology, enhanced shielding and XLPE insulation, and silver-plated terminations to ensure an optimal signal transfer. This represents a big step up from the C-line range, as Chord have upgraded every material used to produce these cables.
What Chord Company say
Hand-built in the UK. What Hi-Fi? 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Award winner – Best Analogue interconnect £50+. AV Tech Media Awards 2017/18 Best Interconnect Cable.
We’ve taken the design from the award-winning C-line and upgraded all the materials to produce an outstanding value for money, high-performance analogue interconnect.
The ARAY geometry conductors are heavier gauge oxygen-free copper, insulation has been upgraded to XLPE and the shielding is a dual-layer counter-wound heavy gauge foil design. The Clearway mini-jack/RCA is fitted with Chord direct silver-plated VEE 3 RCA plugs and mini-jack plugs.
The improvements mean that the Clearway carries more musical detail. Dynamics are better, instruments and voices sound more realistic and there is better definition and clarity. The Clearway will let you see further into and get more involved with the music you listen to. Right now cables need to be better than ever, there are very affordable turn tables and digital players that deliver music with real coherence. The jump in performance over the past couple of years has been amazing, especially in relation to less expensive equipment. They need a new generation of cables, and those cables need to be able to carry a signal with the musical coherence that the new digital and analogue players are producing.

ARAY conductors appear in several ranges
ARAY is Chord's conductor geometry. The Signature digital cables pair it with silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors, PTFE insulation and silver-plated braid and foil screening. Tuned ARAY is a later development of the same idea and appears in the Epic, Signature, Sarum and Shawline ranges, while ClearwayX carries ARAY.
Power and grounding get the same attention
Chord extends its ARAY work beyond signal cables, with PowerARAY, GroundARAY, PowerHAUS mains products and the PhonoARAY grounding product. ChorAlloy is another named Chord technology. Grounding and mains products work on a different part of the chain from signal cables, so they are the place to look when noise is the problem in your system.
Named ranges from one English maker
The ranges are Leyline, C-series, Clearway, Shawline, Epic, Signature and Sarum T, with ChordMusic as a further line. Chord describes its cables as English design and hand construction, so choosing a range comes down to your budget and your system, not to changing approach.
Why we stock Chord
A lot of our customers own Naim. Naim's DIN inputs need a specific cable that most brands simply do not make, and Chord build them properly, in Wiltshire, by hand. If you are running a Naim system and you want an interconnect that fits it correctly, this is where you end up. We have stocked them since 2007.

The Creative software for that soundcard is very flexible and allows a great deal of customisation to the sound. I knew that this cable was not going to disappoint before I bought it, and it certainly didn't. The upgrade in clarity, detail and sweetness of the sound was immediately notable and it replaced an already very capable cable.
This cable actually trumps the optical cable coming from the same card, which admittedly did surprise me a little, and I have a feeling I would have to go top of the line in Optical to match the Clearway X 3.5mm, which would cost around £300 to do currently and even then I would not say for certain that the optical would win.
Very well made and will be staying in my system until it rots beyond fair audible plausibility, excellent work from Chord Company.
