Chord Epic X Speaker Cable - Custom Length
EpicX has been part of Chord's speaker cable range for many years – it’s a shielded cable that works with pretty much every style of speaker. From mid-price to high end, EpicX brings detail, dynamics, resolution and coherence to every speaker it’s used with. It’s particularly good at bringing control and definition across the bass frequencies and is the ideal cable solution for floor-standing speakers.
EpicX is based on Chord's multi-award-winning Chord OdysseyX speaker cable. Both cables use 12 AWG oxygen free copper negative and positive conductors, silver-plated and insulated with XLPE before an outer PVC jacket is applied. The key difference (and performance leap) is due to the effective high frequency combination shield and translucent PVC jacket that is added to EpicX.
ChordOhmic Silver-Plated Banana & Spade Plugs
Chords ChordOhmic silver-plated loudspeaker plugs are designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to speaker cables.
Silver-plating not only makes sense from an electrical point of view, it can give an audibly superior result during listening tests, when compared with gold plated connectors. Plugs will also benefit from a major clean, using a good contact cleaner or enhancer.

Termination
This cable is custom-made according to customers specific requirements as selected by the various drop-down options above. Future Shop’s highly experienced engineers professionally terminate Chord Cable’s using their superb silver-plated ChordOhmic plugs.
ChordOhmic is Chord’s new silver-plated termination option designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to your speaker cable. Future Shop terminates Chord speaker cables using Chord’s special HEXGUN. An airtight crimp is applied to the plug creating a secure and protected termination. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When a bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result, some loss occurs.
Future Shop also offer gold-plated banana and spade plugs which are soldered as an alternative to the ChordOhmic plugs.

We have 99.9% of the UK covered With Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery. We guarantee delivery to most UK addresses by 1pm the next working day. This includes Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey. Some places take longer to deliver to but we still guarantee delivery within three working days by 5.30 PM.
For the Next Day Special Delivery service, orders must be received by Future Shop by 4.30pm weekdays. Orders after the 4.30pm deadline cannot be guaranteed for same day dispatch.
Please note, Royal Mail Special Delivery for next working day may not be possible where non-standard cable lengths are ordered. If this is the case, the item will be shipped via The Royal Mail Special Delivery service as soon as the cable is custom made.

Channel Islands & Northern Ireland
We accept orders from all Channel Islands including Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. Unless you select a premium service, Items weighing under 2KG are delivered using our standard UK delivery option above. For items weighing over 2KG, a surcharge may be applied for all deliveries to the Channel Islands as well as Northern Ireland.
European Countries
Deliveries to EU member states are not subject to 20% VAT after December 31st 2020 and therefore the 20% VAT on items is automatically deducted when you log-in, register or proceed to place an order.
The customer will be liable for the VAT at the local VAT rate, duty on the import and the brokerage service fee if applicable. This may need to be paid in advance to your local Customs & Excise office or the delivery company before your order can be delivered.

- Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
- Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
- Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.
The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:
- Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
- Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
- Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.
The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. After listening to several of my favourite tracks, the difference I could hear was really quite amazing - particularly female vocals which sounded more realistic and subtle background instrumentation which I had not heard previously. I am not a "posh cable" believer, but in this instance, I have to admit I was wrong! Money well spent in my honest opinion. Note, though, that Futureshop appear to make these cables in-house (using the correct Chord crimping tool), but they are not shipped in an official Chord box. Whilst this is probably not an issue for most, if you were to decide to sell for whatever reason, it could negatively impact the resale value.
The clarity of the sound etc was impressive. One of the best upgrades I've done.
The cable is smaller than the K400 but just as rigid, which could be a problem in some setups.
My equipment: Lumin T2, Pear Audio Captain John Handy/Grado Master McIntosh C53/MC462 Boenicke W11 with 6 meters of cable.
Given their length, high-end cables reach exorbitant prices, but with the Epic X, we mitigate the damage, and the result is far from a compromise.
And I clearly got the kick you expect after a hi-fi purchase, with some great sleepless nights ahead.
Futureshop gave me excellent advice prior to purchase - unbiased and knowledgeable.
In general, the sound is the same as with my QED revelation which are twice as cheap.
Brighter sound and more distinct and seperated Bass. Well spent money.

I have experience an immediate upgrade sound quality with greater details and clarity.
However, since I've been using a much better amplifier (Cyrus) and speakers (Spendor), this opinion has changed. Cables can indeed improve the performance of a system if they have a neutral sound, meaning they don't unnecessarily boost highs or lows. Conversely, they can degrade performance if they aren't neutral.
The Chord Epic X definitely enhances the sound, especially compared to the cables I was using before (QED Reference). In my view, this is a clear recommendation, especially if you use Cyrus amplifiers that require BFA connectors.
The current components the Epics are connected to are: Rega Appollo CD transport into a Merason Frero DAC, Origin Live Aurora Mk4 turntable with an Encounter Tone Arm and Ortofon Quintet Black/ Gold Note Phono into a Rega Aethos amp.
The Epics have a tighter Bass and appear to have a sharper overall sound. My only problem is that they are about a foot too short. My bad!

My previous speaker cable was QED Silver Anniversary XT. Although the Q Acoustics speakers are the weak link in this system, they do scale up, and the Chord Epic X was bought specifically to do just that, which for the vast majority of my CD collection, achieves this.
I don’t think I have managed to get to bed before 3 am since I hooked them up. However, they do show up quite brutally any poor or badly produced recordings, and sometimes I feel like hooking up my old cables ( including all the other cables, which are also new) because some of my collection now sounds awful.
Sometimes less is more. Would I do it again? Absolutely, put the right stuff in and be prepared for your jaw to drop and your eyes to water, but isn’t that how music is supposed to be?
I am also very satisfied with the quality of the products. With this new cable, the low, mid and high ranges are all very clear. I have also noticed an improvement in sound resolution.
By changing the cable to Epic X, the hi opened like a lily top, the rock guitar riff is getting stickier, and the low was tight as it used to be with Norstone. Most satisfying is for Twitter as it gets more airy and ambient with a wider and higher sound stage
With help from Future Shop, I could make a faster decision to Epic X, and the result was 100% satisfaction to my taste.

I bought them to sweeten the top-end performance of my Neat Explorers -which they do. Initially, I had two options from The Chord company, where Epic X speaker cables are at a lower price. The guru knows my Amp, Speakers...and he recommended Epic X.
We started to enjoy more clearer human voices, more details on music. I am not a professional, but it is noticeable that more enjoyable sound/music than I have ever had with the same HiFi system.
We have run them for about two weeks, and the sound is gradually getting better and better.
It's worth investing in this cable since I feel the singer voice more closer to me, hard to describe about the feeling with the same speakers, amp, CD player and CDs.
