What’s inside?
Eight audio grade 100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports make it possible to connect even the most demanding streaming setups. Significant (ie. audible) improvements can be experienced in music playback via streaming services or music stored on a NAS.
The 8switch features low and high electrical noise isolation, reducing data issues that can often be apparent during the playback of high-resolution material.
Core technologies
Powered by a customised TCXO (Temperature Compensation Crystal Oscillator), accuracy is 0.1ppm – far higher than normal crystals and higher than a normal TCXO, allowing the 8Switch to generate higher accuracy network signals, which in turn helps provide more stable music data transmission.
The power supply and clock generation circuits each have two electrical noise isolation circuits which ensure stable network signals. An EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) absorber helps to further reduce the noise from the digital circuit.
Compare the increased performance and jitter measurement (90% less!) of the 8switch compared to that of a general network switch.
Casing & Power Supply
The machined aluminium enclosure offers excellent protection from both acoustic and electrical noise.
The minimal LED display on the front panel includes power, alarm and the link status/speed for each of the 8 ports.
The medical-grade power adaptor has been designed to reduce electrical noise from AC power and prevent mains quality issues from affecting the network signals. It also boasts high power efficiency, a no-load power consumption < 0.075W and protection from short circuit, overload and over-voltage.
Switches require high-speed power supplies so we could not opt for a linear power source due to their speed limitations. We set about improving the power signal by using an extremely high-quality wall supply. This clean supply permits an optimum quality network signal, driven by high-accuracy TCXO clock technology.

First class service from Future Shop. The switch was ordered early afternoon and delivered following lunchtime (standard free delivery).
I haven't had this switch for long, and I don't know what the run-in (break-in) period is if that applies to the switch. So, perhaps it's a bit too soon to comment on appreciable sound difference and quality. But I have not experienced any degradation of sound; on the contrary, my impressions thus far are that it is good in isolation.

And yes, the 8switch does appear to be a more expensive derivative of the Silent Angel Bonn N8 but this has a nicer aluminum casing, a better power supply and potentially other tweaks we do not know about. Very happy to recommend this to anyone using streaming. Everyone I have talked to who has tried an 8switch has kept it and not returned it to their dealer - I think this speaks for itself. I personally know around a dozen who have substituted this in the place of good Cisco switches and they prefer the 8switch. Easy to recommend ! Fast delivery as always by Futureshop - thanks guys !
A recommended and noticeable upgrade.
And what I’ve found is that a LOT can be achieved. The difference is sound quality is not subtle - it’s pronounced. Bass is firmer, treble is airier, and music simply sounds more fun. My streamer used to have a frustrating softness which I put down to the limitations of streaming technology. I now realise that all this stuff about electrical noise, jitter and so on is absolutely true.
In years to come this sort of component will be as vital to streaming audiophiles as a phono stage is to vinyl audiophiles. Highly recommended.
Easier to pick up on the finer details previously hidden in the music which makes listening more enjoyable. Fairly priced and looks built to last.

I don't have a high end network streamer/server but I do use Roon and have several components to clean up the digital signal before it reaches the Dac. Fed from my Mac Mini, I use an SOtM sMS 200 Ultra Neo as a Roon Ready network streamer and I bought an SOtM iSO-CAT6 ethernet isolation transformer which improved its performance enough for me to keep it. The USB out from the SOtM S200 goes into a Mutec MC-3+ USB reclocker and SPDIF converter which feeds my DAC, so my system is pretty well tuned for network streaming.
Adding the EE Gigabit switch recently made a positive difference to the sound of my system overall. I listen to acoustic music, classical and jazz mostly, so I like listen to believable instrumental timbres and the subtle nuances that the instrumentalists bring to their performances. The illusion of real instruments and performers was increased significantly by the EE Gigabit switch so there's no way I'm sending it back. if you already have a well tuned network system, or are fortunate to have a high end streamer/server set up, I highly recommend you audition it in your system. I gave it 4 stars because I think it could be priced a bit more competitively than it is.
Maybe they tweaked or modified the unit? They haven’t been clear or honest with their customers. They could have built a good case by saying they chose 'best of breed’ from a recognised expert in the field, that enabled them to keep costs down and bring a reliable, proven product to market.
With that said, I’ve found this to be a very effective device that does indeed provide worthwhile sound quality improvement over a standard router for audio streaming. It demonstrates just how much EMI/RF noise there is on an internet connection that then feeds straight into the DAC. I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as it applies to all other types of audio connection.
I used to think that physical CD and SACD sounded better than streaming. But with this unit in place, this is no longer true. If you’re into hi-rez streaming with Qobuz or Tidal the EE8 will likely make a significant and surprising sound quality improvement. I subscribe to Qobuz hi-rez (better than Tidal for sound IMHO) and for the first time I really appreciate what hi-rez is all about - a true wow moment. And perhaps also see why some people feel hi-rez is overhyped - their network is just too noisy for them to hear the difference.
Blind tested everyone in my house having almost fallen off my chair in disbelief when I heard system with switch in place. Injected considerable clarity to female vocals, opened soundstage, tauter and more textured base. A much more life-like presentation. Needless to say took about 10sec of A-B listening for everyone to agree. If you have powerline I can hugely recommend this in a revealing system and I think for the benefit its cost is very reasonable.
