Matrix Audio Silver Copper Hi-Fi Clock Cable
The Matrix Audio Silver Copper Hi-Fi Clock Cable is the link that connects an external master clock to the components it governs, and in a clocked digital system it carries the one signal everything else depends on. Matrix Audio designed it for their own clock-based systems, where the SC-1 Audio Grade Reference Clock supplies timing to the MS-1 Music Streamer, NT-1 Digital Audio Transport, ND-1 Audio DAC and SS-1 Pro Audio Grade Network Switch. A reference clock is only as precise at the receiving component as the cable delivering it allows, since any reflection or loss along the run degrades the clean edges that precise timing relies on.
The electrical specification is aimed squarely at that problem. The cable holds a 50 ohm characteristic impedance, the standard for clock distribution, so the signal sees a consistent load from connector to connector without reflections from impedance mismatches. Its maximum transmission bandwidth is 12GHz, far beyond the frequencies a 10MHz audio reference clock generates, leaving generous headroom for the fast rise times of a square wave clock signal. Signal loss is only 0.125dB per metre at 100MHz, so at the lengths offered attenuation is effectively negligible.
The BNC connectors are crimped rather than soldered, which avoids the uneven joints and inconsistent signal transfer that hand soldering can introduce and keeps performance steady from one cable to the next. The semi-flexible body is sturdy enough to protect the conductor while remaining easy to route, which matters in the tight spaces behind stacked components. Two lengths are offered, 0.5 metres for components sitting side by side or directly above one another in a rack, and 1 metre for desktop setups and wider layouts.
What Matrix Audio say about the Silver Copper Hi-Fi Clock Cable
Created for audio enthusiasts who pursue better sound quality, the new Silver Copper Hi-Fi Clock Cable works with all Matrix Audio equipment, including the SC-1 Audio Grade Reference Clock, MS-1 Music Streamer, NT-1 Digital Audio Transport, ND-1 Audio DAC and SS-1 Pro Audio Grade Network Switch. It helps users build precise, high-performance clock-based audio systems.
With 50 Ω impedance and 12 GHz max transmission bandwidth, this cable delivers extremely low signal loss at only 0.125 dB/m at 100 MHz. Its crimped BNC connectors avoid uneven signal issues from traditional soldering and keep signal transmission steady. The semi-flexible cable body is sturdy yet easy to arrange. Offered in 0.5 m and 1 m options, it fits tight rack spaces and compact desktop audio setups of all kinds.

Streaming sits alongside the DACs
Matrix makes plain DACs as well as network-connected units. The mini-i and X-SABRE are DAC lines, while the Element series combines a streaming DAC with a network connection. That means you can choose between a simple converter and a streamer, depending on how you play your music.
Software that runs on the hardware
The MA Player system is a Linux-based high-resolution playback platform, and the MA Remote app controls it from Android, iOS and iPadOS devices. Because the software is Matrix's own, you control the streamer from the same app whichever model you choose.
Digital accessories for your network
Matrix also lists the SU-1 USB isolation switcher, the SI-1 network isolator and the SS-1 Pro network switch, plus clock sources. These are for digital systems where you want to tidy up the path between the network, the streamer and the DAC.
Why we stock Matrix
Matrix build complete units. You get the feature set you would normally find several price brackets higher: full connectivity, proper implementation, no obvious corners cut. If you want one box to do the job rather than three that each do a part of it, the value is hard to argue with.
