Moon by Sim Audio 810LP Phono Preamplifier
A true purist design that is destined to become the new reference for analogue playback. Astonishing analogue reproduction combined with unsurpassed flexibility! With the MOON 810LP, Simaudio envisioned a design with absolutely no restrictions; the ultimate goal is to transport all of the emotion from the artist, from the recording studio to your living room.
The oversized power supply, is housed in an isolated steel enclosure to eliminate all traces of AC artifacts. Within this enclosure is a high quality toroidal transformer, a "pi-type" filter to reduce AC transmission noise and multiple stages of voltage regulation. On the actual audio circuit, there are 4 stages of M-LoVo (MOON low voltage DC regulation circuit).
A dual-mono fully balanced differential design, the MOON 810LP is Simaudio’s first Evolution Series phono preamplifier. Representing an “all out assault” on phono preamplification resulting from a combination of customized parts in an ultra-refined audio circuit which is mounted on a floating suspension and fed by a unique power supply.
Its highly configurable nature – selectable gain, impedance loading, capacitance loading and equalization curves – is accomplished using DIP switches located on the bottom panel. These switches are located directly in line with the circuit at optimal locations to yield the shortest possible signal path. These adjustments, in conjunction with an excellent overload margin, allow the MOON 810LP to work with virtually any available phono cartridge.
Features
- Power supply voltage regulation includes i2DCf (Indpendant Inductive DC Fiultering); 1 inductor for each and every IC in the audio circuit's path - 24 stages in all
- The dedicated audio circuit board is mounted on a 5-point gell-based floating suspension, derived from Sim Audio's M-Octave technology, originally developed for their reference 850P Preamplifier
- Fully compatible with 820S external power supply
- Customized parts include metallized polypropylene film capacitors with very tight tolerances
- Four-layer PCB tracings with dedicated ground and power planes using pur copper for low impedance characteristics

"I could hear cymbals in detail – as in, that cymbal there sounds different from the one over there and both of them sound like cymbals, not a splashy sound. Drum sticks hitting drum heads become almost visual, the attack of guitar notes or piano, also palpable and ‘in the room’. Vocals rendered with so many detail on my records that I hadn’t heard before. The uninitiated are not aware of how much information is in those grooves. Way more than on CD or even the high res audio files I’ve heard, it’s not even close." Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity - December 2016 |
|
"In addition, the completely silent background seemed to present a colorless canvas on which the music was portrayed. The lack of an omnipresent whitish “rush” set the stage for a stunning sense of transparency to the source. The 810LP simply disappeared from the signal path more than any other phonostage I’ve heard in my system—it imposes so little of itself tonally, spatially, and dynamically. If the recording is rich in tone color, warm, and full, the 810LP sounds rich, warm, and full. If the LP contains lots of fast transient detail, the 810LP conveys that quality with aplomb. The Simaudio has no discernable sonic signature that it imposes over all recordings." The Absolute Sound - March 2013
