Nordost Sort Kone Isolation Cone

The Sort Kone is a directly coupled and mechanically tuned resonance control device, using a sophisticated new approach to the problem of supporting sensitive electronics. Whereas most equipment supports are referred to as Isolation Devices, this actually completely misunderstands the nature of the problem. The most harmful mechanical energy doesn’t enter the equipment from outside, it’s generated internally by the audio circuits and their power supplies. Transformers, power supply capacitors, even the active devices themselves, all vibrate as they operate – and those vibrations occur right where the fragile signal is, creating timing errors that smear and distort the music. The Sort Kone is designed specifically to deal with this threat to audio fidelity.
Four levels of price and performance, depending on materials employed:
- AS – Aluminum post and base combined with a hardened steel coupling ball
- AC – Aluminum post and base in combination with an upgraded Si3N4 ceramic ball
- BC – Bronze post and base elements combined with a ceramic coupling ball

Air is part of the insulation
The Mono-Filament wrap is the method that lets Nordost support the conductor inside FEP insulation so that air, rather than solid plastic, surrounds it. Air is an excellent dielectric, which is why the construction matters for how the cable handles the signal.
Flat cables and tuned lengths
Nordost speaker cables use a flat design, and its cables come in mechanically tuned lengths. HOLO:PLUG connectors and Total Signal Control shielding complete the set of technologies the company describes on its own site. They seem to add clarity, a cleaner, tighter bass and greater separation. Overall, I pick up more detail and hear things that were inaudible before.
I take care placing them under the appliances which are mounted on a glass HI-Fi stand re-enforced with granite shelves. They are not cheap but they help bring out the best in a system.
Future shop pretty good with advice and delivery was quick and the items well packaged.
