QED Performance Speaker Cable - Custom Length
QED Performance Speaker Cable is the speaker cable from the heart of QED's new range, above Connect and below Reference and Signature. QED pitch it as the cable most people building a good system should choose. Its job is simple: carry the amplifier's output to the loudspeaker as accurately as possible, adding as little resistance or loss as it can along the way. QED describe it as "no mystery, no magic".
Low resistance is where it starts. Each conductor is 2.5mm², equivalent to 14 AWG, made from 190 strands of 99.999% oxygen-free copper. That gives a loop resistance of just 0.017Ω per metre. A loudspeaker's impedance swings widely with frequency, and the lower the cable's resistance, the more firmly the amplifier controls the drive units. That shows up as tighter bass, better dynamics and more detail, and the benefit grows on longer runs.
The second part is consistency across the audio band. At higher frequencies, conventional speaker cables are affected by skin and proximity effects, which push current towards the outside of the conductor and raise its effective resistance. QED's X-Tube Plus Technology spreads the current more evenly through the conductor, so the cable behaves more alike from bass to treble. A low-loss LDPE dielectric helps: QED quote a dissipation factor of 0.0009 at 10kHz, with low capacitance (26pF/m) and low inductance (0.56µH/m).
These pre-terminated versions are fitted at the factory with QED Airloc banana plugs. Airloc uses a cold-weld termination process that bonds plug and conductor with no air gaps, so the joint has high conductivity and can't oxidise over time. A cable is only as good as its connections, and this one stays as good as new. The jacket is a translucent white, 3.96mm x 9mm figure-eight profile, and the cable comes in 2m, 3m and 5m lengths, ready to plug in.
