Shunyata Reseach ALPHA-X XLR Interconnect Cable - Pair
The Shunyata Research Theta speaker cable belongs to the Theta Series, the range that sits above Shunyata's more affordable Gamma cables and carries much of the engineering developed for their work in recording studios and cardiac surgery labs. At its heart is VTX, Shunyata's own conductor formed in the shape of a virtual tube. The core of each conductor is completely hollow, which minimises skin effect, where high frequencies crowd to the outer surface of a solid wire, and suppresses the random eddy currents that form within it. At 8 gauge the conductors are substantial, and Shunyata credit that larger VTX section with the weight, dimensionality and room-filling soundstage they describe as the Theta's signature.
The copper itself is OFE Alloy 101, also designated C10100, the highest grade of copper produced, with a minimum purity of 99.99% and a conductivity rating of 101% IACS. OFE stands for oxygen-free electrolytic, the grade that superseded OFHC, and C10100 is the only copper grade supplied with written certification of purity, to ASTM F68. The conductors are insulated in a fluorocarbon dielectric, a material more usually found in aerospace and satellite wiring, chosen for very low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and heat resistance. The cable is built in a Tri-flex construction and finished in a black flex jacket, then conditioned for four days using KPIP v2, which refines conductor metals at atomic level and shortens burn-in.
Termination is where the Theta is most practical to live with. It uses Shunyata's STIS v3 interchangeable terminal system, with banana and spade terminals machined from solid tellurium copper and plated in pure gold, cold welded to the conductors. Because the terminals interchange, the ends can be changed on the fly between banana and spade to suit a new amplifier or speaker without replacing the cable, while retaining the performance of fixed connectors. Each cable is hand-built in Poulsbo, Washington, tested for continuity and polarity by two separate technicians and HiPOT tested at 1,200 VAC. Standard length is 2.50 metres.

Shunyata Research produces select cables using a Precision Matched Z (PMZ) concept. This means that tolerances of the conductor surface, dielectric extrusion, and the precision of the braided shield are held to minute variances. To achieve these tight tolerances, the extrusion and braiding machines must be run at one-quarter speed during the manufacturing process. (Note: Z means impedance)
2022 Fluorocarbon Dielectrics
Fluorocarbon dielectrics are usually only found in wire used in the aerospace industry, satellites and only the most expensive audiophile cabling. It has special electrical characteristics; very low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and exceptional heat resistance. When used in audio and power cables is reduces the perception of dynamic compression and it improves sonic low-level resolution and clarity.

ArNi® is a type of wire created by Shunyata Research designed to be the finest quality wire available for audio purposes. It begins with the highest purity of copper available – OFE C10100 or Ohno (single crystal). Then it is formed in virtual hollow tubes eliminating skin effects and eddy current distortions. Hollow-tube conductors to limit skin effect
VTX conductors are made in a virtual hollow-tube form from OFE Alloy 101 copper, a design intended to reduce skin effect and eddy currents. VTX-Ag speaker cables add a pure silver centre conductor inside a ring of pure copper, with fluorocarbon insulation to limit dielectric absorption.
Noise treated in the cable and in the mains
TAPc, a patent-pending technology, couples to the electromagnetic fields around a conductor with the aim of reducing electromagnetic distortion. ΞTRON, which is patented, addresses dielectric absorption using dual signal paths. On the power side, CCI filters reduce noise generated by components without heavy transformers or coils.
Metals are processed before they are built into cable
Shunyata treats its conductor metals with KPIP v2, a four-day continuous process that it says refines the metals at an atomic level and shortens burn-in time. Joints are sonically welded rather than soldered, and the CopperCONN connectors use pure copper contacts.

Hollow-tube conductors to limit skin effect
VTX conductors are made in a virtual hollow-tube form from OFE Alloy 101 copper, a design intended to reduce skin effect and eddy currents. VTX-Ag speaker cables add a pure silver centre conductor inside a ring of pure copper, with fluorocarbon insulation to limit dielectric absorption.
Noise treated in the cable and in the mains
TAPc, a patent-pending technology, couples to the electromagnetic fields around a conductor with the aim of reducing electromagnetic distortion. ΞTRON, which is patented, addresses dielectric absorption using dual signal paths. On the power side, CCI filters reduce noise generated by components without heavy transformers or coils.
Metals are processed before they are built into cable
Shunyata treats its conductor metals with KPIP v2, a four-day continuous process that it says refines the metals at an atomic level and shortens burn-in time. Joints are sonically welded rather than soldered, and the CopperCONN connectors use pure copper contacts.

We use Royal Mail 1st Class services for our Standard Delivery.
Orders received before 4.30 pm Monday to Friday are usually dispatched the same day by FIRST CLASS post (unless premium postal or timed courier services are selected), subject to stock availability. This does not apply to custom-length cables and speaker cables as these require a longer timescale to terminate. This also excludes all cables selected for the burn-in service. Please note, we do not process orders on national holidays in the UK. Over 98% of our orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays.
Standard delivery is usually within 2 working days, although 98% of all orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays. In extreme cases, such as delivery to the Highlands and Islands, this may take 3 days.
All items are fully insured and come with an invoice from Future Shop. We use the Royal Mail for delivery of small packages and DPD Local or DHL for items that weigh over 2KG. Items over 2KG are fully insured and will usually be delivered within 48 hours of placing your order subject to stock availability. For international orders, we use FedEx or DHL services where customers have selected this option.
Please note, special orders for non-standard cable lengths may be subject to longer deliver time-scales. This may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

European Countries
