Priced at just *£6.00 per plug*, X banana and spade plugs offer exceptional value for money compared to the £8.00 QED AIRLOC plugs. While both options are available, these plugs have been engineered with performance, flexibility, and affordability in mind, perfect for audiophiles looking for the best connection without breaking the bank.
New cables (even high-quality ones) benefit from a period of signal conditioning before reaching their optimum performance. The dielectric (insulation) around the conductors needs time to stabilise under the electromagnetic field created by signal flow. Rather than leaving this to you, we run cables on our Nordost Vidar burn-in machine before dispatch, up to the equivalent of 200 hours of use, in a fraction of the time. Your cable arrives performance-ready from the first listen.
About Atlas Cables
Scottish cable maker that designs and builds its own conductors, connectors and cables rather than assembling bought-in parts.
Atlas researches, designs and produces its cables in Scotland, with a handful of exceptions. Many cable brands assemble off-the-shelf components, but Atlas specifies the conductors, insulation and terminations itself and tests the result in its own listening room. It offers a five-year guarantee on its cables.
Read more about Atlas Show less
The plugs are Atlas designs too
Atlas designs its own RCA plugs. The Achromatic and Ultra RCAs are built for low mass and high bandwidth, and the newer Metik connectors were developed for personal audio. Designing the connectors in house means Atlas is not limited to what an outside supplier already sells.
Three performance levels, with named ranges in each
The catalogue is arranged in three performance levels. Upgrade covers Element and Equator, Aspire covers Hyper and Ailsa, and High End covers Mavros, Arran, Eos and Zeno. You can choose the level that suits the rest of your system, then move up later without changing brand.
Custom options and a repair service
Atlas lists luxe and speaker termination options, so you can specify a cable to suit the equipment at each end. It also repairs, customises and upgrades its cables through a dedicated service, which means you can bring an older cable up to date instead of replacing it.
Why we stock Atlas
Atlas run pure copper conductors through most of the range rather than silver or silver plating. That gives a warmer, more forgiving balance than the silver-plated cables we sell. If your system is already leaning bright, Atlas is usually where we point you first. Hand-built in Scotland, and we have sold them since 2008.
About AudioQuest
Californian cable maker covering analogue, digital, speaker and power cables, with patented conductor and dielectric designs.
AudioQuest is based in Irvine, California, and makes cables for nearly every connection in a system: analogue interconnects, USB, HDMI and Ethernet, speaker cables and AC power cables. Its designs come back to four ideas: solid conductors, directionality, noise dissipation and the quality of the metal.
Read more about AudioQuest Show less
Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system
AudioQuest also makes AC power cables, Niagara and PowerQuest power conditioners and DragonFly DACs alongside its analogue, digital and speaker cables. If you are building or upgrading a system, that means every cable in the chain, and the power feeding it, can come from one design approach.
Why we stock AudioQuest
We took AudioQuest on for HDMI. When the 1.4 spec arrived in 2009 they were the first supplier who could actually get the cables to us, at a point when almost nobody could. The power cables turned out to be just as good, and they are now a bigger part of what we sell than the HDMI ever was.
About Chord Company
English cable maker that designs and hand builds in Wiltshire, known for its ARAY conductor technology.
Chord describes its cables as designed and hand built in England, at Amesbury in Wiltshire. The catalogue covers interconnects, speaker cables, power cables, HDMI cables, Burndy cables and accessories. ARAY conductor technology, and its Tuned ARAY refinement, appears across several of the ranges, from analogue interconnects to digital and USB cables.
Read more about Chord Show less
ARAY conductors appear in several ranges
ARAY is Chord's conductor geometry. The Signature digital cables pair it with silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors, PTFE insulation and silver-plated braid and foil screening. Tuned ARAY is a later development of the same idea and appears in the Epic, Signature, Sarum and Shawline ranges, while ClearwayX carries ARAY.
Power and grounding get the same attention
Chord extends its ARAY work beyond signal cables, with PowerARAY, GroundARAY, PowerHAUS mains products and the PhonoARAY grounding product. ChorAlloy is another named Chord technology. Grounding and mains products work on a different part of the chain from signal cables, so they are the place to look when noise is the problem in your system.
Named ranges from one English maker
The ranges are Leyline, C-series, Clearway, Shawline, Epic, Signature and Sarum T, with ChordMusic as a further line. Chord describes its cables as English design and hand construction, so choosing a range comes down to your budget and your system, not to changing approach.
Why we stock Chord
A lot of our customers own Naim. Naim's DIN inputs need a specific cable that most brands simply do not make, and Chord build them properly, in Wiltshire, by hand. If you are running a Naim system and you want an interconnect that fits it correctly, this is where you end up. We have stocked them since 2007.
About IsoTek
UK power specialist making mains conditioners, power bars and power cables to keep noise off the mains supply.
IsoTek is a UK company that specialises in mains power for audio and home cinema systems. Its range includes mains conditioners, power bars, sine wave generators and power cables. Noise filtration is the common thread, and the catalogue is tiered so you can start with an entry-level Discovery product and move up.
Read more about IsoTek Show less
Two kinds of mains noise, filtered separately
IsoTek treats mains noise as two problems. Differential mode filtering deals with noise between the live and neutral conductors, while common mode filtering removes RFI carried on the supply as a whole. Products with several outlets give each outlet its own filter, and the Syncro technology cancels DC on the mains.
Protection and layout as well as filtering
Filtering is paired with protection and circuit layout. Surge protection uses VDRs, and the products use a starred earth design, in which each outlet has its own path back to a single earth point. The Titan products use a Direct Coupled circuit, and the Genesis series generates a clean sine wave.
A ladder that starts at Discovery
Discovery is the entry level. The EVO3 range has four levels, Initium, Premier, Sequel and Optimum, and the Ultimate series is a further line, with V5 and One Series variants. Titan, Aquarius, Nova and Sirius are among the model names, so you can build up your power setup step by step.
Why we stock IsoTek
Electrical noise in the average home has got worse every year we have been trading. More switching supplies, more devices on the ring main, more wifi. IsoTek is where we send you when the system is good but the noise floor is holding it back. Cleaning up what goes in is a different job from what a cable can do.
About Merlin Cables
British-built custom cables, designed around one idea: take the noise out of the system.
Established in the early 2000s, Merlin Cables emerged with a singular mission: to deliver consistent, outstanding performance at an exceptional value. Guided by a distinct design philosophy, Merlin endeavours to minimise system noise, preserving the integrity of the original signal and allowing any audio system to shine at its optimum capacity.
Read more about Merlin Show less
One conductor material, across the range
Every product under the Merlin Cables banner embodies this philosophy. They universally employ high-purity copper as the conductor material, ensuring that as one navigates up the range, the performance characteristics remain consistent, only elevating in quality at each tier.
Materials chosen to fight noise
In an age where ambient noise is omnipresent and often compromises system performance, Merlin Cables stand out. Their designs deftly integrate superior materials, from high-purity copper to cross-linked polymer dielectrics and even custom noise-reducing compounds intrinsic to the materials. This harmonious blend minimises the detrimental impact of external noise on any system.
Changes only when they earn their place
At Merlin, the pursuit of perfection is ceaseless. Despite receiving accolades and being hailed as best in class by independent reviewers, the drive to push the performance envelope remains unabated. However, change is never arbitrary. Modifications are only introduced when they offer tangible performance enhancements.
Why we stock Merlin
Merlin came onto our radar in 2010 when their power cable took a What Hi-Fi? award, and the results kept up with the price. Our engineers were trained by Merlin's founder to build the Tarantula and Black Widow power cables here in our workshop. They were also the only British brand we carried offering IEC, Figure 8, US, Euro and Australian terminations.
About Nordost Cables
American cable maker known for mono-filament wrapped conductors and flat speaker cable geometry.
Nordost designs, engineers, manufactures and assembles its cables in the USA. Its cables use FEP insulation with an air dielectric and a patented Micro or Dual Mono-Filament wrap process, and its speaker cables use a flat design. The catalogue runs from interconnects and speaker cables to power, USB and Ethernet cables.
Read more about Nordost Show less
Air is part of the insulation
The Mono-Filament wrap is the method that lets Nordost support the conductor inside FEP insulation so that air, rather than solid plastic, surrounds it. Air is an excellent dielectric, which is why the construction matters for how the cable handles the signal.
Flat cables and tuned lengths
Nordost speaker cables use a flat design, and its cables come in mechanically tuned lengths. HOLO:PLUG connectors and Total Signal Control shielding complete the set of technologies the company describes on its own site. Bi-wire jumpers, tonearm cables and subwoofer cables are part of the catalogue too.
More than cables
Alongside cables, Nordost makes QRT audio enhancers and SORT resonance control products, which deal with vibration rather than signal transmission. The cable lines run LEIF, NORSE, Reference/Valhalla and Supreme Reference/Odin, in the order Nordost lists them, so you can build your system at several price levels from a single maker.
Why we stock Nordost
Nordost sit at the top of what we sell, and they are also the reason we can burn in cables ourselves. We run Nordost Vidar machines in our workshop, so every eligible cable leaves us already conditioned on their equipment. Very few retailers can say that, and it is why the service is free on your order.
About Ortofon
Danish cartridge maker with models for hi-fi and DJ use, from moving magnet to moving coil and mono.
Ortofon is a Danish company that develops, manufactures and markets phono cartridges. The catalogue covers moving magnet and moving coil designs, plug-and-play headshells, mono cartridges and 78rpm cartridges, for both hi-fi and DJ use. Series names include OM, 2M, Concorde, Exclusive, MC Cadenza, MC X, MC Quintet, VNL and SPU.
Read more about Ortofon Show less
Colour names in the core ranges, numbers and names elsewhere
Ortofon's core ranges, 2M, MC Cadenza and MC Quintet, use colours to mark the steps, such as Red, Blue, Bronze and Black. Ortofon describes Red as open and dynamic with a touch of warmth, and Blue as adding detail and resolution. Other ranges use numbers, like MC X, or names, like Vertex and Verismo in the Exclusive series.
Moving magnet, moving coil and mono
Ortofon builds both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, so it covers the two main ways of generating a signal from a groove. It also makes mono and 78rpm cartridges for older records, and plug-and-play headshells, which arrive with the cartridge already mounted.
A series to suit most turntables
The catalogue is organised in series rather than a single line, and Ortofon says its cartridges suit the majority of turntables now on the market. You still need to check compatibility with your tonearm before buying, because a cartridge's weight and compliance have to suit it.
Why we stock Ortofon
Ortofon are the cartridge name most vinyl listeners already trust, and they cover the full span from a first serious upgrade to the high end. That range is why we carry them. Whether you are replacing a worn stylus or rebuilding a front end properly, you can be sent to one brand and be right.
About QED Cables
British cable maker covering speaker, analogue, HDMI and digital cables, plus speaker and network cable for installers.
QED is a British company that makes connection products for audio and video systems. The catalogue covers speaker, analogue, XLR, phono, subwoofer, USB, optical, coaxial, Ethernet and HDMI cables, and mains cables. For installers it offers the QX16 series speaker cable and a CAT network cable.
Read more about QED Show less
Installer products for longer runs
QED's main installer products are the QX16 series speaker cable and its CAT network cable. Both suit cable that has to be run through a house or a room rather than a short link between two components, which is the job the rest of the range covers.
A full set of digital and video connections
For digital and video connections, QED makes HDMI cables, USB cables in A-B and A-Micro B formats, and optical, coaxial and Ethernet cables. That covers most of the digital connections in a modern system, from a streamer to a TV.
Analogue connections from one maker
For the analogue side of a system, QED makes speaker cables, analogue interconnects, XLR and phono cables, subwoofer cables and mains cables. That gives you the connections between your source, amplifier and speakers, and the power feeding them, from a single British maker.
Why we stock QED
QED was one of the first brands we ever ordered, back in 2005 when we started. We have sold them every year since. Twenty-one years with one brand tells you something about how few of them come back, and QED still sit at the price point where most good systems begin.
About Shunyata Research
American maker of power cables, power distributors and signal cables, built around noise reduction and its own conductor designs.
Shunyata designs and builds its products in an 18,000 square foot facility near Seattle, Washington. It makes power cables, power distributors, audio and digital cables and grounding products, and holds more than ten patents with more pending. Its cable ranges rise from Venom through Delta, Alpha and Sigma to Omega, and its power distributors from Venom and Hydra through Denali to Everest.
Read more about Shunyata Show less
Hollow-tube conductors to limit skin effect
VTX conductors are made in a virtual hollow-tube form from OFE Alloy 101 copper, a design intended to reduce skin effect and eddy currents. VTX-Ag speaker cables add a pure silver centre conductor inside a ring of pure copper, with fluorocarbon insulation to limit dielectric absorption.
Noise treated in the cable and in the mains
TAPc, a patent-pending technology, couples to the electromagnetic fields around a conductor with the aim of reducing electromagnetic distortion. ΞTRON, which is patented, addresses dielectric absorption using dual signal paths. On the power side, CCI filters reduce noise generated by components without heavy transformers or coils.
Metals are processed before they are built into cable
Shunyata treats its conductor metals with KPIP v2, a four-day continuous process that it says refines the metals at an atomic level and shortens burn-in time. Joints are sonically welded rather than soldered, and the CopperCONN connectors use pure copper contacts.
Why we stock Shunyata
Shunyata are not a brand you can simply decide to stock, and getting an account took some doing. Their cable construction is unlike anything else we carry, and their sister division builds power systems for medical imaging, which tells you how seriously they treat noise. The customers who try them very rarely go back to what they had.
About Tellurium Q Cables
Somerset cable maker focused on phase distortion, with Silver, Black and Blue families tuned to different system balances.
Tellurium Q builds its cables in Somerset around one problem: phase distortion. Its designers start from the view that every material in the signal path acts as a filter, and they combine multiple stranded conductors, different dielectric materials and different geometries to reduce the effect. Even solder mixes and plating thicknesses are chosen with the same aim.
Read more about Tellurium Q Show less
Three families, three balances
The Silver range is designed to give silver-like character without harshness. The Black range, which includes Black Diamond, aims for a transparent and lifelike presentation. The Blue range adds a little warmth to balance a bright system. You can pick the family that matches your system before choosing a level.
Several levels within each family
Each family has three levels: the standard models (Silver III, Black II and Blue II), the Ultra II models and the Diamond models, with a Statement line alongside them. You can choose a family for its balance first, then decide which level suits your system and budget.
Every connection from one designer
Tellurium Q makes speaker cables, interconnects, power cables and jumpers or links across its families. Because all of them come from one design approach, you can carry the same thinking from source to speaker, using a family chosen for its balance for every cable in the chain.
Why we stock Tellurium Q
Tellurium Q are the brand customers tell us about unprompted. Black is the range that sells and the one people return to buy more of, usually after hearing what a single interconnect did. Fourteen years of selling them and the feedback has not shifted, which is rarer than it sounds.
About Wireworld Cables
American cable designer developing its products with a patented cable comparator, aiming to keep the original waveform intact.
Wireworld is an American cable company led by designer David Salz, and its products span audio, HDMI, USB, Ethernet and power. Development rests on the Cable Comparator, a proprietary test device covered by a US patent, and on conductor and insulation designs such as DNA Helix and Composilex.
Read more about Wireworld Show less
A conductor geometry with its own name
DNA Helix, short for Delineated Neutralizing Array, is Wireworld's conductor geometry. Wireworld says its cables are designed to minimise signal loss and preserve waveform integrity, aiming for the closest approach to a direct connection, and it uses the comparator to check each design against that target and against sonic neutrality.
Insulation and metals chosen with care
Wireworld names its materials in its own documentation. Conductors are oxygen-free copper or, where silver is used, Ohno Continuous-Cast solid silver at 99.99999 per cent purity. The insulators are DuPont Delrin, and Composilex 5 is the fifth generation of Wireworld's own insulation.
A design for each type of connection
Wireworld makes cables for HDMI, USB, Ethernet, power and audio. UNI-PATH is its approach to digital cables, FLUXFIELD is its approach to power cables, Symmetricon is its HDMI design, and the Silver-Tube plugs are covered by a US patent, so the plug on the end of the cable is part of the design too.
Why we stock Wireworld
We took Wireworld on in 2007 for their flat cable designs. The flat geometry on the HDMI and power cables was doing something different to the round cables everyone else was building, cutting crosstalk and holding signal integrity over longer runs. That was the reason we took them on and it is still the reason we sell them.

- Why settle for one when you can have both? X banana plugs double up as standard banana plugs and BFA Deltron-compatible plugs, making them a versatile option for a wide range of speaker setups. The QED AIRLOC banana plugs, by comparison, don’t offer this flexibility.
- High-Quality Metal Barrel Protection
- Each banana plug includes a sleek metal outer barrel for added durability and protection. This design ensures that your connections are safe from wear and tear while adding a professional, polished finish to your setup.
Key Features of X Spade Plugs
- Silver Base with 24K Gold Plating - For the spade plugs, X have gone the extra mile. The silver base provides superior conductivity, while the 24K gold plating ensures durability and outstanding performance. Silver is one of the most conductive materials available, offering a noticeable improvement in audio clarity and detail.
- Metal Barrel for Superior Build Quality - Unlike QED spade plugs, which lack outer protection, X spades come with a matching metal barrel for a premium finish and enhanced durability. This feature not only adds aesthetic value but also protects the connection from accidental damage.
Why Choose X Plugs
- Better Conductivity, Better Sound: With the combination of beryllium copper for strength and silver with gold plating for spades, X plugs deliver clear, detailed, and dynamic sound for your Hi-Fi system.
- Perfect Fit: Four different inlet sizes ensure a snug fit for your speaker cables, eliminating the need for ferrules and providing direct signal transfer.
- Durability You Can Trust: Both the banana and spade plugs are designed for long-term use, thanks to the corrosion-resistant materials and solid build quality.
- Made in Taiwan: Renowned for high-quality manufacturing, these plugs deliver professional-grade performance at a competitive price.
