AudioQuest Diamond Digital Audio Cable
AudioQuest Digital Coax cables are designed to minimize distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. For many applications, the speed of digital communication is important. Most visibly, “speed” is about transferring large files as quickly as possible, or carrying enough data for HD video. For Digital Coax audio “speed” is critical not because of how-much how-fast, but because time relationships within a digital stream are critical to the reconstruction of the analog waveform that brings information, music and joy to our ears. Time-based damage (jitter) to this information within the data package makes the sound small and flat instead of 3D, harsh and foggy instead of smooth and clear.
Features :
- Solid 100% Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) Conductors
- Hard-Cell Foam Insulation
- 100% Shield Coverage (Foil + Silver-Plated Braid)
- 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1)
- Carbon-Based 6-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS)
- Silver-Plated Terminations
Solid 100% Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) Conductors :
Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extreme-purity silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by the grain boundaries which exist within any metal conductor, nearly eliminating harshness and greatly increasing clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers.
Hard-Cell Foam Insulation :
Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest’s video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen injected to create air pockets. ‘Hard’ foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.
100% Shield Coverage (Foil + Silver-Plated Braid) :
Shielding always plays an important role in any cable design, but the shield on coax interconnect plays an especially important role because it functions not only as a shield but a return path as well. Because of this, AudioQuest pays special attention to the shield’s metal quality and the fabrication techniques as both will affect the sound and the picture.
72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1) :
All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest’s DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
Carbon-Based 6-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) :
100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment’s ground reference requires AQ’s Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.
Specification :
- Metal: Solid 100% Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS)
- Gauge: 21 AWG
- Geometry: 75 Ohm
- Dielectric: Hard Cell Foam
- Noise Dissipation System: Carbon-Based 6-Layer Noise-Dissipation System

About AudioQuest
AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for many years. AudioQuest is sold in several hundred outlets in the US and in over sixty countries. Bill Lowe (Founder) is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don’t want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.
About AudioQuest
Californian cable maker covering analogue, digital, speaker and power cables, with patented conductor and dielectric designs.
AudioQuest is based in Irvine, California, and makes cables for nearly every connection in a system: analogue interconnects, USB, HDMI and Ethernet, speaker cables and AC power cables. Its designs come back to four ideas: solid conductors, directionality, noise dissipation and the quality of the metal.

Conductor and metal choices come first
Solid conductors and metal quality are two of the ideas AudioQuest returns to across its range. HyperLitz, a conductor construction patented in 1988, is another. Directionality, the principle that a cable is built to carry signal in one direction, is the fourth.
Noise is treated as a separate design problem
AudioQuest lists its noise-dissipation technologies as ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and the Dielectric-Bias System, which was patented in 2004. They are applied alongside the conductor work rather than in place of it, and which ones a cable carries depends on the model and its price.
One brand across the whole system
AudioQuest also makes AC power cables, Niagara and PowerQuest power conditioners and DragonFly DACs alongside its analogue, digital and speaker cables. If you are building or upgrading a system, that means every cable in the chain, and the power feeding it, can come from one design approach.
Why we stock AudioQuest
We took AudioQuest on for HDMI. When the 1.4 spec arrived in 2009 they were the first supplier who could actually get the cables to us, at a point when almost nobody could. The power cables turned out to be just as good, and they are now a bigger part of what we sell than the HDMI ever was.
New cables (even high-quality ones) benefit from a period of signal conditioning before reaching their optimum performance. The dielectric (insulation) around the conductors needs time to stabilise under the electromagnetic field created by signal flow. Rather than leaving this to you, we run cables on our Nordost Vidar burn-in machine before dispatch, up to the equivalent of 200 hours of use, in a fraction of the time. Your cable arrives performance-ready from the first listen.

Free Premium Cable Burn-In Service: Experience the Power of Nordost VIDAR 2 Machine
We are thrilled to unveil our upgraded cable burn-in service, now featuring the cutting-edge VIDAR 2 burn-in machine. At Future Shop, we strive to provide the best possible experience for our customers, and this enhanced service is designed to unlock the true potential of your high-end cables. Read on to discover the exceptional benefits and advancements offered by the VIDAR 2 machine.
Please note: We are unable to burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. Cable burn-in occurs after your order has been processed for the selected time period. For custom-length cables, burn-in takes place after termination by the manufacturer or our skilled engineers.
The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine seamlessly combines three vital functions into a single operation:
- Neutralising charges around cables and insulation: The VIDAR 2 effectively dissipates any built-up charges, creating an optimal environment for signal transmission.
- Deep conditioning into the conductor core: With its wide band and profound conditioning capabilities, the machine induces significant changes in signal passage through the metal, resulting in enhanced performance.
- Ultrasonic surface conditioning of conductors: The VIDAR 2 employs ultrasonic technology to refine the conductor surface, further refining the signal quality.
In addition to all the advantages of its predecessor, the VIDAR 2 introduces remarkable improvements, including:
- Complex burn-in signal with wider bandwidth and richer content
- Enhanced directionality for cables
- FOUR burn-in zones - including a new digital zone for USB, Ethernet, and Coaxial (BNC) cables.
Using a proprietary blend of composite and complex signals, the VIDAR 2 ensures comprehensive cable conditioning. The signal consists of ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, surpassing video frequency ranges. The signal effectively penetrates the core at ultra-low frequencies by oscillating throughout the cable while swiftly traversing the surface at ultra-high frequencies. This transmission methodology counters harmonics and heterodynes between the two complex waveforms, improving signal performance throughout all cable layers.
Furthermore, the circuitry design boasts a unique feature that drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric or insulation area. This process neutralizes any electrical charges that may impact the signal integrity. With the Nordost VIDAR, we go beyond merely sending ping-pong signals along the cable; we also ensure a balanced signal flow from the centre core to the outer shield in interconnect cables.
What does all this mean for you?
Conditioning your cables with the Nordost VIDAR yields remarkable benefits, including enhanced sound staging, heightened detail reproduction, and a more captivating and musical presentation.
We offer our cable burn-in service as a complimentary offering at the discretion of Future Shop. While we strive to accommodate all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to fulfill all demands due to the limited connections available on the Nordost VIDAR cable conditioning machines.

The whole system sounded right from the first note. Imagining was excellent, together with instructions and textures. You can relax and enjoy the music. This cable is very expensive but worth every penny. My system consists of Auralic Aries G2 and KEF LS60 wireless active speakers. Audition this diamond cable. You will not be disappointed.
It's a step up from the AudioQuest Carbon, which is an excellent cable in its own right. In my system, the Carbon is more forgiving--feed it an album that's got weaker production and it still sounds fun. The Diamond is a different kind of beast. It seems to give you a more realistic presentation. And when I say realistic, I mean almost like you're there. I played a Daft Punk live album and the system suddenly had this sound that I can only equate to the live sound of a real EDM show. You can hear the bass bins firing, and feel the excitement in the crowd. So then I put in some Saint Saens and we were in a hushed auditorium with every instrument coming through in a way I have never heard--not even with the Carbon. Velvety, smooth, but really present, where the Carbon sometimes fluffs the midrange a bit (in my setup).
But... a fairly ancient studio recording from New Model Army sounded way thinner than the same CD with the Carbon. My guess is that the system is being more fully revealed by the Diamond. So really good recordings sound insanely brilliant, plenty of detail AND plenty of substance (right down to those bass bins). But less tip-top recordings are maybe being revealed to the point where they can't stand the scrutiny.
Conclusion: the Carbon parties all night long. The Diamond shows you what was actually happening when the music was recorded, which makes the Diamond a brilliant cable for a detailed system.
The more revealing your hi fi the system the more you are likely to hear the improvements. I now wonder what the Wild can do, but the cost hike is massive.
AQ interconnects have been a game changer for me (I have the AQ Sky 1m RCA too). Enjoy..
