Upgrading Your Hi-Fi System: Part 1 - The Source
Part 1 focuses on the starting point of any system: the source. This includes digital players, DACs, streamers and analogue front-ends. The article explains how the quality of the initial signal influences every other stage and how noise, jitter and poor cabling can limit the performance of even the best amplifiers or speakers. It helps readers understand how upgrades such as better digital interconnects, high quality power supplies and improved streaming infrastructure can uncover more detail and reduce background noise. Analogue sources are also considered, explaining the importance of low-noise phono stages and suitable cabling. Throughout the guide, readers learn why a strong foundation unlocks more from every other part of the system. The article also highlights real examples of equipment and categories that deliver noticeable improvements. By the end, readers will have a clear picture of how a refined source introduces greater clarity, improved timing and richer musical expression before the signal moves further down the chain.
