Converters, control and commissioning
Two related jobs sit on this page. Converters change one video format into another where the equipment cannot talk directly. Control and test hardware makes an installed system usable and diagnosable once it is in.
Converters are active devices, not adaptors. Converting VGA or DVI to HDMI involves real processing, and the result is limited by the source resolution rather than improved by the conversion. Scalers change resolution deliberately, which is useful for putting a legacy source onto a modern display, or for locking a matrix output to one resolution so every display receives the same signal.
On the control side, EDID management tools are the ones that save installations. Being able to read, store and force EDID resolves most handshake failures, where a display negotiates a lower specification than it should or nothing appears at all. IR extenders, control processors and signal generators cover the rest of commissioning.
