Sizing a matrix correctly

A matrix lets any source reach any display independently. A switcher selects between sources for a single display. If two rooms need to watch different things at the same time, you need a matrix, and no amount of splitting will substitute for one.

Size on inputs and outputs, then add headroom. A 4x4 with all four inputs used leaves nothing for the next source you buy, and expanding later usually means replacing the unit rather than adding to it. HDBaseT matrices send each output over Cat6 or Cat6a to a receiver at the display, which is how most whole house systems are wired.

Check bandwidth support against what the sources actually output. A matrix rated for 4K at 60Hz will not pass 4K at 120Hz from a games console, and the symptom is usually a blank screen rather than a helpful error message. Confirm HDCP version support, EDID management, and whether audio is extracted at the matrix or at each receiver. Send us the room layout and source list and we will specify it.

These devices allow one or multiple HDMI sources to feed multiple displays. A splitter duplicates the signal, while a matrix switch lets you send different inputs to different screens.
